Wednesday’s midweek matches push the ScoutCast back 24-hours, offering you a Crackerjack style Friday afternoon “treat”. Granville and I could certainly “crush a grape” after reaping the rewards from the Robin Van Persie captaincy and we can’t help allowing our smugness to seep through on several occasions, as we take the opportunity to mock both the Professor and Jonty on the recent failings of Wayne Rooney. Small victories.

Those two characters crash the party to bring us the latest forecast from the Rate My Team computer as part of our weekend preview, while Jonty brings us another “fortunate” member of the community to suffer the usual brand of “Full Jonty” analysis. The familiar smattering of regulars glue it all together, as we keep the momentum going with the finishing line now in sight.

Grin and bear the delight at the Dutchman via this link, or stream this self-satisfied nonsense via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How would you improve this team?

    de Gea / Robles
    Baines / Clichy / Sagna / Pearce / Demel
    Santi Cazorla / Michu / Walcott / Fellaini / O'Neil
Tevez / Van Persie / Lambert

1 FT, £0.0m in the bank.

Fat boy won't play twice in a matter of days he's far too old for all that malarky.

He just plays against the weaker sides to improve the goals for column.

Yeah, but then again, he's on penalties, and we do win quite a lot of penalties. And just 3 goals behind the club record, which I think he'll achieve in the next 5 weeks. Makes me want to keep him tbh.

He is already a massive player. SAF trusts him for the big games and he has had 2 good seasons for United.

Once he knows how to finish, he will be the finished article. I'd much rather have him in my team rather than the likes of Sturridge. Easily.

Happy for Carrick, but I don't get all the love for Welbeck. Every time he attempts a dribble he inevitably loses control by getting the ball caught under his feet, and then his final touch is too heavy when he crashes into the defender. His dribbling is just a mess, sorry. What else does he bring to the table? Goals? Has he even reached 5 of those for the season yet? I'll give him credit though for his enthusiasm and for that header against Madrid 🙂

    Jaaskelainen
    Turner, Baines, Clyne
    Hazard, Fellaini, Walcott(vc), Cazorla
    RVP(c), Berbatov, Benteke

Bench: Begovic, Zabaleta, J Evans, Puncheon

    ~ Starting XI okay?

This is his last game for me, but he won't be played deep at home to Villa. That was one game in the deadly britannia stadium, where they needed a player like Rooney to take the hits.

Welbeck gets a lot of love at United for the fact he's a homegrown player in addition to his talent.

I guess fans of most clubs don't understand how it feels to have nurtured a talent through all of the clubs' youth teams since the age of 10.

If United were going to struggle to scrap it out for the top 4 don't you think it would have happened by now?

United have been at their weakest financially with Chelsea and City at the strongest they'll ever be, and its still barely happened for either club in the last 6 years.

United debts beginning to clear, City/Chelsea finances about to be regulated - enjoy.

Look at Palace, had a few good players come through their ranks lately, then they get snapped up. Such as Zaha, Moses. Look at Southampton - Walcott, Bale, Ox

Then you have other players like Rooney, Jones, Smalling, etc. Not saying this is limited to united either.

So no, most fans can't empathise with united fans who have no comprehension of what it is to be a lower league club and see your best academy products poached once they start making the grade. And then turn around and point the finger that we don't have good players that have come through our academies? looool

Then the irony when these mostly glory hunting fans who have never set foot in manchester in their life start talking 'real chat' about football. looooool

That aside, Welbeck still isn't good enough.

I was referring to other Premiership clubs, rather than lower league ones.

And I was also referring to players actually produced by a club, not ones purchased for big money from others when they've graduated from the academies. Rooney, Jones, Smalling, Zaha were not in my mind,

            Evans, Welbeck, Cleverley were.

PS I've been to 10 home matches this season, not bad for someone who's never set foot in Manchester.

              Yeah, you've missed my point.

The point is for you shouting Evans, Welbeck, Cleverly - other people would be shouting Rooney, Jones, Smalling, Zaha - if you hadn't come along and poached them.

The point I'm making is that you can point to the players you've held on to because you have been at the top of English football for 20 years. Think it is that easy for other clubs to hold onto their big players? So your point is basically moot.

That's the way of the world, you can brag about your academy but you seem to be missing the bigger picture. Standard.

PS I never said you hadn't set foot in Manchester, I said most united fans haven't. I reckon you'd be hard pushed to argue with me on that one as well. United are a great club who have had a lot of success, this attracts fans, obviously. But again, try looking at it when the shoe is on the other foot. When fans who only support a team do so because they've had success (again, not saying this is YOU, but most united fans it is), it's easy to brag about the success you've had. Yeah true, if it weren't the case most people round here would be liverpool fans 20 years ago, or City fans 20 years from now 😉

But they can still shout for those players? As Rooney is still an Everton product. If Ravel Morrison goes on to be a world beater, he's still a United youth product. Another one churned out.

I'm thinking more about Chelsea, City, Liverpool; resourceful clubs whom have had no one poached from them and have still produced next to nothing in the last 10 years?

I just think there is a definite link between the United love for Welbeck and the fact he's come up through the ranks. And new fans of the clubs mentioned, along with a lot more fans on this site that follow other clubs, wouldn't understand that.

I don't think thats really the point being made, if you're talking about homegrown players you look at those in your own tea,/

Anyway, I disagree that those clubs have produced next to nobody, but certainly wouldn't argue that they've produced as much talent as say United or Arsenal.

Doesn't change the fact you're basically admitting people are letting their bias get in the fact of realising that Welbeck is a fairly average player.

Well it was my initial point. Welbeck is a homegrown player in my own team. A few of the largest supported teams don't have that, so I can understand why they can't quite grasp why United fans are so supportive of him.

Can't quite grasp why that's worthy of you coming in here writing LOOOOOL all over the shop but each to their own.

Not a slight on you by the way, I fully understand your point.

But you wouldn't catch me going on about how we produced Ronaldo or Rooney. Definitely added to their talent and matured them, but they aren't products of the United academy.

In a league where most players are bought in or are pure mercenaries, its clear to me that Welbeck is clung onto by a lot of United fans as an exception to that.

Yeah, I agree with your point. United certainly aren't the worst for it.

But forgive me if the point is slightly lost on me given the amount of money that united still spend on players.

I can see why bring through and nurturing talent are seen as the noble paths - I'm just pointing out that it's a hell of a lot easier for united to do that, because they are the team they are, have a great rep because they have stability and proven success for doing exactly that and are also one of the most successful clubs in the world.

Most of us didn't ever stand a chance of competing even if our motives were in the right place.

    ok lads 2 questions

    a) Play Fellaini or Pienaar?

    b) Got Maloney, getting Tevez next week, so for GW36 Aguero or Kone (assuming Aguero is fit of course)

Ta, also think I'll take Mata for your DGW. For the reason that my main rival has him and he's chasing, so it cuts out a potential difference maker.

Which move to go for this week? Bale is coming back in next week.

    A) Sissoko > Maloney
    B) Fellaini > Maloney
    C) Cazorla > Maloney
    D) Forget the Maloney love.

My other two mids are Walcott and Michu.

    Cheers, guys.

Sissoko for me, but maybe Caz due to the doubt and having Theo as well

Tiote a big doubt. Does this mean Sissoko dropping to fill in?
