Yesterday, we highlighted the main beneficiaries of the schedule over the next four to six Gameweeks, with a look at those teams set for promising runs of fixtures. Today we look at the flipside of the coin, as we see that United’s kind opening stretch is about to come to an end, Chelsea face a tough test to maintain their unbeaten record, while Aston Villa still have plenty to do to weather their stormy ride.

Man United

“frisking

United were well on the road to bouncing back from their Leicester humiliation, leading West Ham last weekend, when Wayne Rooney lashed out at Stewart Downing and earned himself a three-match ban. Louis van Gaal will be hoping his team can continue their progress without their captain, but in terms of fixtures, the next six Gameweeks look tough – the Red Devils face four of last season’s top five in Everton, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Beset by injuries, the Reds’ defence has been anything but solid and the upcoming fixtures will surely be the last straw for any remaining owners of David De Gea or Marcos Rojo. In contrast, the Reds’ impressive midfield cast has been a profitable source of Fantasy points. Although these fixtures present managers with a dilemma over Angel Di Maria, with Ander Herrera injured and Juan Mata far from guaranteed regular pitch time, the Argentine remains the man most likely in the middle of the park. Up top, Robin van Persie scored his second goal in as many matches last week, and whilst his owners may be minded to keep hold, new investment may be hasty, whilst Radamel Falcao’s relatively minimal impact has failed to convince he’s worthy of the hefty outlay for now.

QPR

“frisking

In spite of a relatively kind opening schedule, the R’s are stuck in the relegation zone already and Harry Redknapp has his work cut out to avoid seeing his team sink further into the mire. Over the next six Gameweeks Liverpool and Man City roll up to Loftus Road to test the Rangers, while a trip to Stamford Bridge is hardly appealing. Such fixtures lower the Fantasy stock of this team even further and investment at this point looks exceedingly unlikely.

The Hoops’ defence hasn’t really measured up to even the modest expectations, with just one shut-out and 13 goals conceded. Steven Caulker’s threat in the box has already come to fruition but looks unlikely to compensate for the goals we can expect to be conceded over this schedule, and while Rob Green has seen off the threat of Alex McCarthy, it’s fairly academic for Fantasy purposes. The set-piece delivery of veteran Niko Krancjar has caught the eye of some in recent weeks, but with these fixtures, he doesn’t look like a wise purchase. Similarly, Charlie Austin notched his second goal of the season and will be hoping to reprise his promotion-winning form, but with so many in-form budget strikers to choose from, the schedule is a persuasive deterrent.

Aston Villa

“frisking

After a fabulous opening to the season, Paul Lambert’s Lazarus-esque team have hit a wall of fixtures, losing 3-0 to both Arsenal and Chelsea. Next up, they face Man City and then Everton before the schedule once again eases up. Anyone who has retained Brad Guzan or Alan Hutton through the aforementioned matches will no doubt keep them pinned to the back of their substitutes bench but fresh investment in the defence that kept three clean sheets in their first four will surely have to wait until Gameweek 9. News of Christian Benteke’s return to action will be music to Lambert’s ears and affords Fantasy managers a nice settling-in period to assess his form before investing.

Be Wary Of…

Hull
Steve Bruce’s side did well to come back at Man City after going two goals down, with a display that demonstrates the confidence and attacking impetus instilled this season. Hull will need that for two of their next three fixtures, though, as after the home comforts of hosting Crystal Palace, they face back-to-back trips to both Arsenal and Liverpool.

The fixtures after that are a bit mixed for the Tigers until around Gameweek 15 when they embark on a very nice run. Until then, it’s a little hard to recommend the likes of Allan McGregor or Curtis Davies – certainly James Chester has become persona non grata after missing out through Bruce’s formation tinkering. In midfield, Mo Diame’s two goals have caught the eye but he will struggle to keep that pace against the upcoming opposition, while Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez may also toil, and are again victims of the current proliferation of budget talent.

Chelsea
Unbeaten in all competitions this season, Jose Mourinho’s side seem to be cruising to glory and their prime Fantasy assets are hot property. But, as they showed against Man City, even their wings can be clipped against tough opposition as Mourinho reins in his team’s attacking instincts to edge ahead in tight matches.

With that in mind, a schedule that includes Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool in the next six Gameweeks could curtail the Blues’ Fantasy potential, although home fixtures against QPR and West Brom amidst that run may compensate. In addition, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the defence could be the main beneficiaries of Mourinho’s tactics, enhancing the appeal of Branislav Ivanovic and bringing the so far under-performing Gary Cahill, John Terry and Cesar Azpilicueta into contention. Cesc Fabregas, on the other hand, presents a dilemma for his legion of owners, and although Diego Costa is unlikely in the extreme to leave any teams, he might find himself bereft of armbands, offering hope of differential captains to shake up the rankings.

West Brom
As Alan Irvine gradually gets to grips with the Baggies’ hot seat, his team are now unbeaten in three games in all competitions and will take great heart from thumping Burnley on Sunday. Unfortunately, the fixture list looks set to disrupt their momentum, with showdowns against Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea over the next six Gameweeks.

The excellent value of Andre Wisdom (ineligible to face Liverpool this weekend) looks set to be tested, while Craig Dawson will be relying on goal threat to prop up his points. Graham Dorrans found his feet very abruptly with a huge 16-point haul last weekend but will struggle to repeat it in the near term, while Saido Berahino’s brace has similarly caused some ears to prick up – given the schedule, anyone considering investment may be better off waiting until the storm has passed.

Such tough decisions on my WC!

    Pelle or Welbeck
    Is Aguero worth it?
    Fabregas or ADM

      personally I would go Pelle/Aguero/Fab.

Welbeck is better in that CF role than out wide but still not convinced by him. Southampton have better form and fixtures and Pelle has scored more goals so that's why I would lean towards him.

Aguero is just getting warmed up and City have some tasty fixtures.

Fab will get points most weeks where I think you have missed the boat on ADM. He might get another few hauls but my personal opinion is he will blank most weeks.

Man U's offense will only get better and most of it goes through ADM. He's all attack while Fab keeps dropping deep. Sure he has an eye for a good pass but so does ADM. I don't think he'll start blanking, plus he scores goals. Fab is all assists.

Reckon Aguero will get more minutes than has been in previous GWs, plus he's performed in the little game time he has had.

Hmm true, I'm hoping he gets closing to 80+, should stay on if City aren't battering opposition and I'd hope if they are he'd be involved with most goals.

Just watched the Arsenal game Welbeck on fire, better do the same in the league.

Looks like the dutchman at utd made another mistake letting him go. Stuck with two aging strikers who play in too simiar fashion with no plan B

They may of got RVP but Arsene having the last laugh

exactly. Welbeck looks good but I would rather Costa/Aguero/Pelle. if one of them gets injured then Welbeck is a great replacement.

Well depends what you view as long term. Over the mid term I think Pelle and Welbeck will be roughly on a par. All opinions of course.

Yeah, when I bought Pelle a couple weeks ago, I was planning to swap him to Welbz at some point but I'm not totally sure now. Lambert and Giroud were pretty similar last year. Different players obviously, but it shows the main striker for Southampton can compete with the main striker for Arsenal.

I've had 4 big hitters in midfield since GW1. It felt like a small differential and worked out well a few times.

I'm not on the Sergio bus either but I've taken a punt on Dzeko for the time being. Still got feeling that Aguero is a risk at the moment but if he stays fit then I'll get him after the ManU game in GW10.

Dzeko.. You like getting burned for fun then? 🙂 Nah, could be a great pick but if I'm not sure about Aguero, I'm even less sure about Edin! Mr Jovetic is back in the mix too.

I wanted to go Sakho for a couple of weeks, but went Ulloa (boring I know!) whilst there was the threat of suspension hanging over Sakho. Burnley at home and Newcastle away looked good games to me.

Lovren>Baines is my gw8 FT, this week I prefer Lovren though.

I brought in downing for Ramsey, and Pelle for Rooney in gw6 which is why I have such massive surplus itb now.

Baines gw8, Ivanovic gw12, and a striker upgrade on Ulloa gw9 will be where I put most of that cash

Which of these transfers is the most important?

    A) Adebayor > Welbeck
    B) Henderson > Eriksen or under 7.9
    C) Dier > Jagielka
    D) Lovren > Azpilicueta

keep Lovren, Sakho is injured and their fixturelist looks decent. I know they have been rubbish at the back so far but with Johnson and Flanagan, and Can also not too far off, they will be a much improved team from GW8 IMO. That double-header with Real will also focus them defensively.

    Krul (elliot)

Terry - Moreno - Naylor (Wilson, Bruce)

Tadic - Sterling - Fab - Siggy (Marney)

    Welbeck - Costa - Aguero

Quite content with this team for the upcoming gameweeks,

just wondering if krul + terry >> courtois and chambers would be a good move or not?

Any other comments on the team are welcomed!

Just noticed something strange about Aguero...

He has scored in every match this season where he hasn't played 90 mins. The two games he failed to score in were against Stoke and Chelsea, both times he played 90mins.

I don't know if that means much, just an interesting stat.

    1. Kirby
      • 15 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

Yeah, saw the stats the other day that 348 minutes played = 3.8 games.

4 goals in that time actually puts him second behind Costa in goals per game (going by a full 90 minute appearance).

Thinking of these transfers over next few weeks; In what order are the priority transfers?

    A. Krul to Schmeichel
    B. Tadic to Chadli
    C. Naismith to Welbeck
    D. Adebayor to Pelle
    E. Ivanovic to Baines
    F. Hutton to Chambers

Some of those are just silly. Don't waste a FT on Krul

Hmm cheers TM. Trying to look long term as I'm on WC keep coming back to something like this. I've had the first option all week but Arsenal and Liverpools fixtures...

Tough call... TWS would be more differentially, CPA is the safer bet though.
I have Chadli and Pelle though and none of the others so I guess my answer is CPA

    I've never been so confused with 2FTs;

    Krul 4m
    Clyne Ivanovic Wilson Duff Hutton
    ADM Sterling Siggy Tadic Fabregas
    Costa Adebayor Naismith

Need to get rid of Naismith to either Pelle or Welbeck but means I have to downgrade someone?

    Who to Downgrade?
    A. Adebayor (Welbeck & Pelle not nice fixtures this week?!)
    B. Tadic
    C. Ivanovic (crazy this week)
    D. Do another transfer this week and get Welbeck and Pelle next week

Heres a tip , dont worry too much about who has nice fixtures this week.
Think who is the best over the next six weeks

ie Get Welbeck and be done with it

I presume you mean I should just bite the bullet and do Adebayor & Naismith to Pelle & Welbeck?

        Cheers for the feedback!

Exactly. Anyone can score in any given game. It's the longer-term you should plan for

Though the way my FT's work out Welbeck will only see my team in gw9 - if he scores against Hull.

            No problem.

As a tip, what I do is take the RMT tool, fill it with my current squad along with any players I am thinking about buying in the next 5-6 weeks, and then copy into excel. I replace those silly numbers with fixtures instead by copying from the ticker, and then i can cross-reference my defenders, mids, and forwards against eachother to see how they all rotate. It also helps identify holes in my fixtures (like for example seeing that i only have 2 good fixtures for my 5 defenders in GW12, so i know that i need to make a Def trade that week. Helps me visualize things incredibly clearly.

Any one else use this approach btw?

adebayor and naismith to dzeko and ulloa this week. Dzeko to pelle/wellbeck next. Maximise this week's points. Having said that naismith is playing man utd so might be worth sitting tight and just doing adebayor to pelle/welbeck this week and naismith to pelle/welbeck next

I think at this point Ade has to go. Would also be very concerned for Naismith's gametime if he plays full 90 in Krasnodar tomorrow as Martinez's rotation policies are very difficult to read.

I got rid of Naismith the minute he was benched vs Palace. I can't have 3rd strikers who I can't count on to play the easy fixtures because of rotation, especially those who come on as a late sub and even have the audacity to get booked as well to get a big fat 0.

Little bit of both. Their centerbacks were pretty woeful in tracking his runs, but Welbz had great strikers killer instinct to bury the goals.

Can't help but think that Rooney getting suspended will actually make Utd's season

I have always thought he is a very talented player, but he breaks teams - they just don't work properly most of the time when he's in them.

This is not a Rooney or Utd bash - just an honest opinion

Albeit from a Leeds Utd fan

I've been saying this for a long, long time regarding the England team, particularly in the lead-up to the world cup. Since ADM and Falcao came in i've been saying the same thing about the United team too.

He could play really badly and it will make zero impact on his overall minutes.

LvG gas already admitted he's untouchable.

But I agree, we play much much better without Rooney in the team.

I don't actually think Rooney is the Captain

I think LVG has appointed him to appease the fans, the club, the English players

His real captain is RVP - he just doesn't wear an armband

With so many new faces it will just take time for not only the players to click with one another but also for the manager to figure out how best to implement his assets. People expecting them to smash off and hit the ground unbeatable were just experiencing illusions of grandeur. They will come good, but when is the question. Albeit from a Palace fan.
