EA Sports Index Points Released

As many of you may have noticed, the EA Sports Index has already been published on the Premier League site. This, of course, is how the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will break down the Bonus Points in this season’s game.

Many of the names are as we anticipated, though what’s something of a surprise is Shay Given, with 5 saves in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, looks as though he’s earned no Bonus Points, despite keeping the Cottagers at bay. Newcastle’s Steven Taylor, on the other hand, is the top-rated player on the Index for the goalless Newcastle-Arsenal game. Wigan’s Victor Moses, Man of the Match in many press sources with 9 successful dribbles and 3 shots, is also likely to miss out.

As expected, goal scoring is the main factor- by the looks of things, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Ivan Klasnic and Steven Fletcher are the highest-rated players on the EA Sports Index for their respective games and seem set to grab all 3 Bonus Points.

Fantasy Football Scout will, of course, be breaking down the Bonus in full for the Premier League and you can expect our article on the matter to be published later today.

    This is probably a stupid question, but how does everyone know all their opponents teams? Are you just "asking them"? as i can only see their total week points when i click on their name.

    Also, when do we find out our H2H fixtures? Anyone know?

    The ICT Index needs a fair amount of work 😉 The EA PPI scores have certainly taken everyone by surprise. Apparently, there were 67 midfielders that performed better than Aaron Ramsey at the weekend! He was awarded the princely PPI total of just 2. Quite unbelievable considering his Opta stats. Even Cattermole and Lucas scored 3...

    It's clear that being on the winning team is important, but even so, with Fulham - Villa ending 0-0, how on God's Earth can Andy Johnson pick up 3 bonus points?!! Are they awarding him for shooting on target? If so, why doesn't the opposing keeper earn more points for saving them?

          Exactly. I'm at work now, but later I'm going to look at what was special about Ashley Cole's performance to get his 3 bps in a 0-0 draw. Perhaps it was dribbles, or successful passes in the opponents half or touches of the ball - I don't know, but it will be crucial in identifying which defenders to transfer in.

            Exactly. Especially what he did better than Bosingwa, playing in a similar position. Having watched the game, Bosingwa seemed far more involved in play.

            he got 1 EA PPI more than terry and Mikel who both got 2, while several other players scored the same PPI (1$) and got nothing.

          I had Rooney(c) and was sure Young was going to hoover up the 3 bps. Quite amazing that he didn't get anything - I think crosses must be being considered as regular passes (when they are anything but) and his assist points were negated by his 12 unsuccessful crosses.

          This EA PPI formula needs tuning, imo.

      I'm pretty disillusioned with it all to be frank. Whatever Ramsey scored, it's a damn site better than Torres who got zilch, nada.

        There must be a way of reverse engineering the PPI scores based on the Opta stats we have for those performances. I'm in half mind to leave work early and have a crack at working it out!

        Before this was posted up I was expected Jason Roberts assist to be a prime example of why bonus points worked better with a human judge... It seems there are lots of examples though.

        Actually I don't have a problem with the new bonus points. A bit more transparency of how the index is calculated would be helpful but otherwise at least it is free of human inconsistency and error.

        For those of you irate that Given didn't get bonus points in the 0-0 draw, He is joint 4th in the Index from the players in that game, joint with Warnock & Collins so only just misses out. Johnson and Zamora played fantastic games, and were unfortunate not to put their side up. I don't remember enough of Agbonlahor's performance to know why he just pipped Given & the defenders but the stats must reflect it.
        Ashley Cole is a defender and earned max bonus in that game and Krul in goal for Newcastle got on the bonus points list too. It seems that the stats may reflect the performance of players, better even than the score line. So outstanding performances by Johnson & Zamora in attack can still be rewarded when they just come up short on goals, and potentially we could see outstanding defender performances rewarded with BPs even if their team do let in a goal or two?

        There were a lot of complaints over the randomness of bonus points in previous seasons. I think we need to be patient and give the new system a chance. Some of us seem to be forgetting just how ridiculous some of the BP awards have been in the last few seasons.

    Cashley 3 bps? I'll take that.

    That leaves me with 24 points with Silva and Kompany to play tonight. One of my rivals is on 48 with the same pair but he has Silva (c). I know it's a marathon etc but that's quite a gap already.

      If we are stuck with it, they could mitigate the damage by restoring the transparency of points on the FPL site, i.e. so that you can see at a glance who scored what in which matches.

    These bonus points are here to stay for the season. Instead of whining about it, channel you energies into finding out who the best bonus picks are going to be.

      I like you're thinking.
      It's going to be unpredictable for the BP's for the 0-0 games though. A Johnson, Zamora, Cashley. All should've done way better, and got the baps. There were clearly people who deserved them more.
      Anyway, let's just enjoy it. It's still FPL after all.

      I wouldn't throw out a wildcard this early, too soon imo. I've got Bent (think he will do well this season) but he needs good service, and didn't get much of it on Saturday...Drogs has always been a rotation risk with the arrival of Torres. Maybe just get rid of Gervinho? Who's on your bench? Avoiding pt hits is key, unless you're in real trouble...

    I think 3 points for shooting a target,1 point for shooting offtarget, 3 for assist,10 for goal,5-10 points for winning..nothing to do with good passing..
    1 for a block,1-2 for interception/steal,executed sliding tackle( someone tell them its not basketball)
    2 for a save,1 for a punch/clearance

    I feel thats the way they are giving points..looks psycic to me..

    So who on here understands the webdesign world enough to work out how FPL have dive bombed with this new format this season? I mean...did they buy a new format which wasn't compatible with how they wanted it to run or did they try and change the old one...how did they manage to not set it up properly (or is it the fault of the new format only?

    This is not guided towards the rules and BP changes...this is simply a technical / formatting question. I'm simply curious how things like this can go sooo wrong...It has been one "disaster" after the other now...

    This Buzzard is starting to run out of patience. Who decided to make these wholesale changes to the fpl?

    I understand the bonus point frustration but if people shout loud enough they get what they want it seems. I didn't want the system changing, I actually quite liked the randomness of it as it used to be. Stats don't always make things better - just look at education!

    I am really annoyed that scores won't update in real time and league positions are not done after each days matches. This is a serious problem i think and takes away a lot of the enjoyment for the serious ff addict. If metro can do it using a much wider range of data, yhen i fail to understand why this game cannot do it now.

    Who has actually paid to do this make over. Did EA sports pay the premier league to take it over or did the premier league invite EA sports to do the make over? The cynic inside me suggests that this will be a prelude to people paying for this game next year!

    it also annoys me that they have had 3 to sort this problem out, and they had extra time in preseason to check it thoroughly. But it still don't work!

    Mark and team, you are doing an excellent job, although you may have some misgivings about the tie in with fpl. Keep up the excellent work that you lot do, but please, now you have a foot in the door, please explain to EA sports/fpl that what they have done is shit.

      You nailed it Buzzard. The new FPL is a train wreck. Where's all the fun and immediacy gone? A 'to-do' list of fixes issued by FPL would be a decent thing to do. Participation's gonna trail off quickly if the old functions aren't restored. FFS - time to take sides on this one!

    Chelsea attacking coverage for the next two GWs looks pretty essential. But right now I can really only see one option -> Torres. Malouda looked very average yesterday. Lampard playing too deep. Drogba, Kalou, Benayoun you cannot count on any of them starting. Thoughts? Worth doing Carroll to Torres as my one freebie (I kept 1 million in the bank).

      Under this system, in the game in which Ben Foster performed miraculously last season to keep Chelsea out, all the Baps would have gone to Drogba. Stupid.

      It seems this new Baps system is a case of being careful what you wish for. Personally, I used to love the outrage caused by the randomness of the old regime.
