Daniel Sturridge plays a part in two of Liverpool’s three goals in his first start since August. Harry Kane grabs a goal and assist at Anfield. Mesut Ozil serves up a pair of assists, Dame N’Doye fires Hull to victory over Villa, whilst QPR stun Sunderland with their first away win of the season.

Ozil Steers Gunners to Win

The German earned the points once again as Arsenal edged past Leicester at the Emirates. Having scored in each of his two league starts since returning from injury, Ozil’s impressive form continued with a pair of assists in the 2-1 win after he teed up Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott for the hosts’ strikes.

Last night’s team sheet highlighted the strength in depth of Arsene Wenger’s options as Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck all dropped to the bench to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez, Tomas Rosicky and Walcott. Whilst form and fixtures may be in their favour, it’s clear that Wenger has yet to decide on a first-choice XI and his tinkering up top will continue to be a real source of frustration. Both Sanchez and Ramsey limped off with knee and hamstring problems, though, and the Chilean – who was preferred to Giroud as the lone striker – could be set for another exodus if he’s ruled out for any period of time.

The Gunners boss did, at least, remain faithful to the same back-four as Hector Bellerin earned a fifth straight start at right-back, though Andrej Kramaric’s consolation left their owners without defensive returns for the second match running.

Pearson Freshens up the Foxes Defence

With a full quota of defenders to choose from, Nigel Pearson handed veterans Robert Huth and Matthew Upson their first starts of the season as Leicester took up a 5-4-1 formation for the trip to the Emirates. Pearson also retained skipper Wes Morgan in the middle, meaning that Marcin Wasilewski failed to feature for the first time since Gameweek 10. The Pole’s kind price tag has persuaded 5% of FPL managers to acquire his services but last night’s teamsheet now suggests that Pearson may turn to experience in his attempt to clinch the Foxes survival.

Tigers Find their Form

Steve Brue opted for a 3-5-2 formation for Hull’s crucial home encounter with Villa last night. The Tigers manager’s decision to partner Nikica Jelavic with new boy Dame N’Doye proved decisive after both grabbed a goal apiece in the 2-0 win – the latter also grabbed an assist on his first start and, at a price of just 5.5, now squares up to QPR, Stoke, Sunderland and Leicester in the next four Gameweeks.

At the back, Bruce once again left Curtis Davies on the bench as his side chalked up a second clean sheet in ten attempts. Hardly persuasive for those looking to invest in their defence and more a damning indictment of Villa’s dire form, with Paul Lambert once again utilising Christian Benteke as a sub as his side’s struggles continue.

R’s Cure Travel Sickness

Rolling up to the Stadium of Light without a manager and devoid of their injured top scorer, QPR looked like proverbial whipping boys for this one. Caretaker boss Chris Armstrong made six changes from the weekend and his decision to roll out a 4-2-3-1 formation proved instrumental in earning the R’s their first away points of the season. Matty Phillips provided a pair of assists from his role on the right, whilst Leroy Fer bagged a goal from the role in “the hole” behind fellow scorer Bobby Zamora before being subbed off injured. With a blank Gameweek 27 and showdowns against Arsenal and Spurs in the next four, though, Ramsey’s charges may struggle to earn a place in our short-term plans.

Black Cats Disappoint

Fantasy faith in Jermain Defoe was high heading into last night’s deadline. After serving up two goals and an assist in his first three matches, the Sunderland new boy was snapped up by over 140,000 managers prior to a home clash with QPR but his failure to produce against a side that had lost every previous away match raises concerns. Owners of the likes of Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt were left disappointed by the surprise loss but Gus Poyet’s troops at least have the schedule in their favour to recover – showdowns with West Brom, Hull and Villa in the next four look vital to their survival prospects.

Sturridge Brings in the Points

With Raheem Sterling ruled out through injury, the Liverpool forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 3 as Spurs rolled up to Anfield. Having been eased back into action with a couple of sub appearances, Sturridge made an instant impact upon his return to the first XI by providing assists for both Lazar Markovic and Steven Gerrard in a five-goal thriller.

Whilst Mario Balotelli’s winner may have hogged the headlines, Sturridge’s return to the fold will have caught the eye of Fantasy managers. Handed 73 minutes by Brendan Rodgers, he’s now starting to approach full match sharpness and at 11% ownership, remains a relative differential for those with cash to spare. The Reds’ fixtures could be a deterrent, though; Southampton, City, United and Arsenal in the next six will continue to test the Merseysiders, though judging by last night’s display, they’re back to their swashbuckling best.

Kane Delivers Yet Again

The Tottenham forward demonstrated his fixture-proof appeal with a goal and assist in the 3-2 defeat at Anfield. With maximum bonus also accrued, Kane served up a third successive double-figure haul to move to the top of the FPL forward standings – a fact that’s all the more remarkable bearing in mind he didn’t start a league match until Gameweek 11 and had played just 100 minutes until that point.

Moussa Dembele was handed a sixth successive start by Mauricio Pochettino as Nacer Chadli continues to rely on minutes off the bench. The former bagged a goal and has also picked up a pair of assists in his last three outings – at a price of 5.2, he may be worth monitoring ahead of Tottenham’s double Gameweek 28 fixtures against Swansea and QPR.

I'd imagine virtually everyone who saw the line-ups went Alexis, and then plenty will have gone for Giroud who didn't check them.

I would have thought they will be a significant number of Hazard and Aguero's though.

About 65-70% in the top 1k I reckon. More than 62% of top 1k had Alexis captained.

This is wrong. The injury he sustained during the match was an impact one and totally unrelated to his previous injury (his hamstring). He had looked until that point and was definitely a reasonable captain choice.

I know, I'm surprised it hasn't updated yet.

        2-1 either way.

It was a good Scout picks for me and the community...less said about Mark and Pauls picks the better. 😉 Long way to go though.

Everyone of my players accept Kane did poorly including Sanchez (c). Luckily I have 10 playing today and am hoping Hazard (c) can do the business too. Nice feeling to have a poor matchday then know you can pretty much replace the entire squad. Hope remains intact for the week. 🙂

I'm really stuck on this.. Captained Walcott, so quite a good pick yesterday, but whether to twist to Aguero, Hazard, Di Maria is difficult..

Did manage to jump from 29th to 9th so definitely happy with yesterday.

Have a full bench coming in today replacing 0 and 2 pointers.. Krul, Clyne, Rojo, Hazard, Fab, Di Maria, Aguero 🙂

Ultimate FPL really is the game we should all play. Only dedicated fantasy football players can succeed in it. Much more fun and opportunity to take risks too.
If you don't play it, you should.

I like it alot too. I've learned alot this season from my mistakes...particularly around planning around fixtures and the loan system.

I've not used the loan system at all. It looks like the points penalties are too severe. Which is good I think. You need to ensure your whole squad plays when you select it. You have enough players to absorb injuries and suspensions I think.

I haven't used the loan system either. However Eriksen in for the DGW is very tempting for a -4

I'll almost certainly bring in some Chelsea players for the DGW, 1-week loans make a lot more sense for those fixtures.

Sturridge (C), Kane and Bobby Z means subbing off someone with 7 points for Aguero. I think this is the first time I've ever subbed someone on 7.

I've had nearly a full refresh; only Sturridge and Kane remain. A new captain was required as well (thanks Sanchez), so the armband moves to Hazard.

It hardly matters though; with my rank I won't be competing with Lanley for the UFPL crown this year! Hope he goes all the way now. 🙂

I had to go out to a restaurant last night during the football. I tried not to check the scores but couldn't resist. When I saw Defoe and San(c)hez captain (-4) had blanked, I let it ruin the rest of the evening. I've had to apologise to my gf a couple of times that it went so badly after I found out. Is it time I stopped playing?

Haha FPL totally dictates the mood of my weekends. When Giroud (C) got sent off after transferring out Rooney for his only big haul of the season over Christmas I was with family and nobody who "gets FPL" so I just sat there in a furious silence and didn't talk to anyone for the rest of the day.

Wasn't having a go though - we all try are best at the game and get cheesed off when it goes wrong (and lets not forget the massive role luck plays). If you are competitive like we all are that's going to happen. If you feel yourself going to far like you say - perspective...

Just do what I do, pay as little attention to her as possible. If she's got her head screwed on, she'll soon lower her expectations and your 'depressed-at-FPL' mood will be the baseline emotional response she'll expect from you. Then, when your team does well and you get happy, she'll be delighted at the sudden unexpected affection you show towards her.

      You can thank me later.

The worst thing about a really bad week prior to a FA Cup or international break is the two weeks you have to be miserable and reflect on what you so nearly got right.

Remember when people were belittling others for not playing PVA at home to Burnley? Burnley have since gone on to score two again for the 5th time in 6, and the Sunderland double up has failed at home to QPR.

Laughing at others is always horrible, but making them feel bad for logical decisions is even worse.

Is it safe to assume that Sanchez and Ozil are nailed?

I think we can assume he won't be playing in the FA Cup. So ten days to recover will hopefully do the trick.

I think so, been saying this for ages but everyone was all hyped on Caz and Walcott.

Big money signings, and their two real world class players.

Nightmare, though he was always injury prone at Ajax.

Thought he might lift our second half of the season, we need someone more creative in the CAM role. Sissoko is a powerful runner but we lack options going forward, I'd prefer to see him out wide right now.

Should have been back in November so there's clearly something gone very wrong there.

Carver said he should be back in first team training on Monday, but I wouldn't be sure of him playing the next weekend.

He's just not though, people on here bought him far too early (and got lucky yesterday).

There's only 4 attacking spots and Ozil and Alexis have 2 nailed down.

That leaves 2 spots between Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott, Ox, Cazorla.

To be fair, the love in on Caz was justified given his returns.

Walcott I can understand. Not sure why there is so much love for him especially after last season and injuries.

Right then, the old 'bet against your team' method is coming into play tonight. A Southampton and WBA clean sheet would represent a 16 point swing to my rival.

    Therefore my bets tonight are:

    Southampton clean sheet - £50 @ 2.42
    West Brom clean sheet - £50 @ 2.8

Sits back and basks in the idea that Sanchez has 10 days to recover from a bruised knee.

Seriously no idea what to do next week??

    Pants
    PVA Clyne Bellerin (Schlupp Baird)
    Hazard Cazorla ADM Silva (AJ)
    Giroud Aguero Kane

    2 FT's and 1.4 ITB

Giroud and ADM (pending tonight) to Costa and cheap mid, or NDoye (punt) and Mirallas?

Prefer the Costa option. I'm going to have to do some major re-jigging to be able to get him back for the double.

    Hi guys

    What to do?

Obviously tonight plays a factor, but I have 2FT's and a bit stuck at what to do with them. I will try to keep one for the upcoming blanks and then double.

    Foster / Krul
    Clyne, Ivan, PvA, Baird, Wollsc
    Hazard, Sanchez, Cazorla, ADM, Puncheon
    Giroud, Kane, Aguero

    1. HuttonDressedasLahm
      • 16 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

      ^^See above.
      Same thing.
Nothing obvious to do and no major decent fixtures other than Chelsea v Burnley (but then a blank)

Maybe Giroud to Costa, from a ADM downgrade?

Then Hazard Costa kane bench next week!

If Baird doesn't play you'll need to get rid for the blank GW so could be a good use of a FT.

    What is worse for you

A having a bad GW and the transfers you thought about doing returning good points.

B thinking you have a great team for the week and bombing

C watching your rival get points from unusual sources that wipe out your carefully planned moves
