Daniel Sturridge plays a part in two of Liverpool’s three goals in his first start since August. Harry Kane grabs a goal and assist at Anfield. Mesut Ozil serves up a pair of assists, Dame N’Doye fires Hull to victory over Villa, whilst QPR stun Sunderland with their first away win of the season.

Ozil Steers Gunners to Win

The German earned the points once again as Arsenal edged past Leicester at the Emirates. Having scored in each of his two league starts since returning from injury, Ozil’s impressive form continued with a pair of assists in the 2-1 win after he teed up Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott for the hosts’ strikes.

Last night’s team sheet highlighted the strength in depth of Arsene Wenger’s options as Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck all dropped to the bench to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez, Tomas Rosicky and Walcott. Whilst form and fixtures may be in their favour, it’s clear that Wenger has yet to decide on a first-choice XI and his tinkering up top will continue to be a real source of frustration. Both Sanchez and Ramsey limped off with knee and hamstring problems, though, and the Chilean – who was preferred to Giroud as the lone striker – could be set for another exodus if he’s ruled out for any period of time.

The Gunners boss did, at least, remain faithful to the same back-four as Hector Bellerin earned a fifth straight start at right-back, though Andrej Kramaric’s consolation left their owners without defensive returns for the second match running.

Pearson Freshens up the Foxes Defence

With a full quota of defenders to choose from, Nigel Pearson handed veterans Robert Huth and Matthew Upson their first starts of the season as Leicester took up a 5-4-1 formation for the trip to the Emirates. Pearson also retained skipper Wes Morgan in the middle, meaning that Marcin Wasilewski failed to feature for the first time since Gameweek 10. The Pole’s kind price tag has persuaded 5% of FPL managers to acquire his services but last night’s teamsheet now suggests that Pearson may turn to experience in his attempt to clinch the Foxes survival.

Tigers Find their Form

Steve Brue opted for a 3-5-2 formation for Hull’s crucial home encounter with Villa last night. The Tigers manager’s decision to partner Nikica Jelavic with new boy Dame N’Doye proved decisive after both grabbed a goal apiece in the 2-0 win – the latter also grabbed an assist on his first start and, at a price of just 5.5, now squares up to QPR, Stoke, Sunderland and Leicester in the next four Gameweeks.

At the back, Bruce once again left Curtis Davies on the bench as his side chalked up a second clean sheet in ten attempts. Hardly persuasive for those looking to invest in their defence and more a damning indictment of Villa’s dire form, with Paul Lambert once again utilising Christian Benteke as a sub as his side’s struggles continue.

R’s Cure Travel Sickness

Rolling up to the Stadium of Light without a manager and devoid of their injured top scorer, QPR looked like proverbial whipping boys for this one. Caretaker boss Chris Armstrong made six changes from the weekend and his decision to roll out a 4-2-3-1 formation proved instrumental in earning the R’s their first away points of the season. Matty Phillips provided a pair of assists from his role on the right, whilst Leroy Fer bagged a goal from the role in “the hole” behind fellow scorer Bobby Zamora before being subbed off injured. With a blank Gameweek 27 and showdowns against Arsenal and Spurs in the next four, though, Ramsey’s charges may struggle to earn a place in our short-term plans.

Black Cats Disappoint

Fantasy faith in Jermain Defoe was high heading into last night’s deadline. After serving up two goals and an assist in his first three matches, the Sunderland new boy was snapped up by over 140,000 managers prior to a home clash with QPR but his failure to produce against a side that had lost every previous away match raises concerns. Owners of the likes of Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt were left disappointed by the surprise loss but Gus Poyet’s troops at least have the schedule in their favour to recover – showdowns with West Brom, Hull and Villa in the next four look vital to their survival prospects.

Sturridge Brings in the Points

With Raheem Sterling ruled out through injury, the Liverpool forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 3 as Spurs rolled up to Anfield. Having been eased back into action with a couple of sub appearances, Sturridge made an instant impact upon his return to the first XI by providing assists for both Lazar Markovic and Steven Gerrard in a five-goal thriller.

Whilst Mario Balotelli’s winner may have hogged the headlines, Sturridge’s return to the fold will have caught the eye of Fantasy managers. Handed 73 minutes by Brendan Rodgers, he’s now starting to approach full match sharpness and at 11% ownership, remains a relative differential for those with cash to spare. The Reds’ fixtures could be a deterrent, though; Southampton, City, United and Arsenal in the next six will continue to test the Merseysiders, though judging by last night’s display, they’re back to their swashbuckling best.

Kane Delivers Yet Again

The Tottenham forward demonstrated his fixture-proof appeal with a goal and assist in the 3-2 defeat at Anfield. With maximum bonus also accrued, Kane served up a third successive double-figure haul to move to the top of the FPL forward standings – a fact that’s all the more remarkable bearing in mind he didn’t start a league match until Gameweek 11 and had played just 100 minutes until that point.

Moussa Dembele was handed a sixth successive start by Mauricio Pochettino as Nacer Chadli continues to rely on minutes off the bench. The former bagged a goal and has also picked up a pair of assists in his last three outings – at a price of 5.2, he may be worth monitoring ahead of Tottenham’s double Gameweek 28 fixtures against Swansea and QPR.

On the whole this website is great but last night showed how it can be a bad thing as well, i.e. the "group think" that you *had* to have Sanchez and, not only that, but you pretty much *had* to captain him. This was intensified when the teamsheet was revealed and Giroud was on the bench, meaning that Sanchez might well be "up top". All this even though Sanchez was quite likely not 100% and unlikely to play the whole 90 regardless.

Similar thing with Defoe, again the momentum gathered due to that man Giroud - and Defoe became an instant bandwagon - even though, you know, he's Defoe and its Sunderland.

Don't worry I am as guilty as anyone and got caught up in it myself! 🙁

I didn't captain him. But to be honest the picking up of sanchez was needed. It's like if Aguero was injuried and you heard he was starting. A lot would get him in as quick as possible. Sanchez is a great player

Oh yeah, I agree, he's great but he wasn't 100% (pretty much admitted it himself) and we were lucky that he got to the 60 minutes mark in the end.

You are comparing the two most recent examples of bandwagon hysteria. One caused a LOT of wasted wildcards and ill-advised captain decisions. The other caused what will probably amount to an average loss of 12 points per team. Neither was necessary and neither was even wise.

Kane away to liverpool with 4 clean sheets in a row, or, Sanchez at home to Leicester with erm, no cleanies...and playing up front. it's a classic conundrum. Could just have easily led to a double point haul. This game is so fickle sometimes , this week has been my worst of the season so far.

Who knows.. He looks a very capable striker and he's scoring for fun. Can't see why he wouldn't maintain it.

As a box-to-box midfielder, Ramsey is a different thing completely and was never going to be capable of maintaining his goal scoring of last season.

Ramsey kept that for the entire season

The only reason imo he's not an option this year is his injuries. He's a bit more cautious and possibly lacking in confidence as a result

He's very good, but he is probably on the best and luckiest streak of his career. For instance, he was lucky with his goal last night - Mignolet should probably have saved it but he should not have been given any chance. In another season that would been deflected away and we'd all have said "******* Kane - missed a sitter"

I'm convinced that City play best in a 4-2-3-1 setup with Silva at No. 10 and Navas and Nasri/Milner wide. They played well like that against Chelsea even without Yaya.

Why Pellegrini insists on his 4-2-2-2 is beyond me. He seems to think City can just steamroller their opponents.

    Foster, Myhill
    Terry, Jones, PVA, Keane, Naylor
    Hazard, ADM, Sanchez, Oscar, Walters
    Aguero, Kane, Barnes

Need to get rid of Barnes to either Sturridge or Costa (which I can't decide since I already have 3 Chelsea payers).
ADM is not performing enough for his price.
I really have no clue what is going on with Sanchez (his injuries).

Your midfield looks fine! I would wait until all cup games have finished. Then I would sell a player with a blank, eg. Oscar. and save the other transfer possibly. Or sell Barnes. I think Costa in GW 26 would be a huge differential, but it forces you to transfer out him or another player with a blank in GW26 for your next transfer.

Is it time to ditch Caz? Is the lack of returns related in anyway to the return of Ozil? Do the stats suggest his form has dipped or are returns imminent?

Good point. I don't know, although weren't most of his recent points from the penalty spot anyway?

All but one of his goals have been pens.

If they get pens, he'll score well but he's pretty much the Steven Gerrard of last season.

Also likely to be rotated/dropped now everyone's fit again.

But he has been very creative in matches in his good spell of form. He got some assists. Is he playing further back to accomodate Ozil? He seems to have lost corners to Ozil which is another -ve point.

10.5% of the top 10K captained Giroud.

    +4 to Sanchez captainers!

Giroud captainer? 😉 I have a life too, checked the line ups and made my transfer on the way home from work. In an age of mobiles/ipads etc, it's not that hard to check - and I imagine the top 10k take the game quite seriously.

Jeez, you're a bit touchy! It's ok, I'm sure Giroud will do well next week.

I got home and had dinner with my girlfriend and then watched the Liverpool match in the pub, largely consisting of delighted Arsenal fans, with my mates. No need to presume we "don't have lives" and be obnoxious just because I was surprised by such a high percentage of Giroud captainers at the top...

I'm not being particularly touchy or obnoxious and don't particularly care that Giroud didn't do well. There's more important things in life than FPL. I didn't presume that you don't have a life, if your life is that dominated by FPL then you definitely don't have a life....

I think you missed my point, I can understand not checking the teamsheets etc. But if you are playing the game, and in the top 10K I can presume you are. You would know there was a mid week GW and therefore change your team.
"Forgetting" to change your team is not really a valid excuse in the top 10K.

I've got the double gameweek (28) in mind for Spurs, i'm thinking about bringing in a Spurs midfielder to help me win my H2H Draft picked league game that week. As Kane/Eriksson/Chadli are all taken I have turned my attention to Dembele.... who seems to be playing and playing well at the minute.

It seems to me that as a group as a whole we don't captain "cheap" players.

Kane is rarely high up in the Captains poll, he's not even 2nd, 3rd or 4th and he's been scoring high points for many weeks now.

      1. Ruth_NZ

If you are allowing "the group" to make your captain decisions and influence your transfers why don't you hand your team over to FFFix, set it to track the top 1000 and come back at the end of season for your 30k finish?

How did your team do? To be fair all picks were reasonably good, sometimes it just doesn't work out

Very true. I got 56 points, but my captain was a fail again.

I am going to WC in the sickest DGW team ever.

    Green
    Ivanovic, Rose
    Hazard, Fabregas, Eriksen, Mahrez
    Kane, Austin

It is going to blow me nob off m8s x

      It's 6 players short of a WC.

Ah, I was just thinking about if I would shoe-horn Costa in for GW28 if Chelsea had a DGW, and then realised he could actually get booked v Burnley and then Spurs and miss both anyway! That would be the easiest situation, I think.

He'll definitely get booked against Spurs.

Hoping West Ham get a result at Southampton today. Can't see United dropping any points, though

Chelsea's DGW whenever it is... who would you choose to have as your 3 Chelsea players:

    I'm thinking: Terry, Hazard, Costa...

Hoping it is viable to squeeze all these in... got Terry and Hazard already, gonna be a problem to get Costa

Hazard, Terry and Courtois if it's GW28.

If it's later I might be able to get Costa in.

Similar to boomboom, what 3 spurs are you going with for the DGW, or are you having no more than two?

    Kane, Eriksen, Walker
