Daniel Sturridge plays a part in two of Liverpool’s three goals in his first start since August. Harry Kane grabs a goal and assist at Anfield. Mesut Ozil serves up a pair of assists, Dame N’Doye fires Hull to victory over Villa, whilst QPR stun Sunderland with their first away win of the season.

Ozil Steers Gunners to Win

The German earned the points once again as Arsenal edged past Leicester at the Emirates. Having scored in each of his two league starts since returning from injury, Ozil’s impressive form continued with a pair of assists in the 2-1 win after he teed up Laurent Koscielny and Theo Walcott for the hosts’ strikes.

Last night’s team sheet highlighted the strength in depth of Arsene Wenger’s options as Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck all dropped to the bench to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez, Tomas Rosicky and Walcott. Whilst form and fixtures may be in their favour, it’s clear that Wenger has yet to decide on a first-choice XI and his tinkering up top will continue to be a real source of frustration. Both Sanchez and Ramsey limped off with knee and hamstring problems, though, and the Chilean – who was preferred to Giroud as the lone striker – could be set for another exodus if he’s ruled out for any period of time.

The Gunners boss did, at least, remain faithful to the same back-four as Hector Bellerin earned a fifth straight start at right-back, though Andrej Kramaric’s consolation left their owners without defensive returns for the second match running.

Pearson Freshens up the Foxes Defence

With a full quota of defenders to choose from, Nigel Pearson handed veterans Robert Huth and Matthew Upson their first starts of the season as Leicester took up a 5-4-1 formation for the trip to the Emirates. Pearson also retained skipper Wes Morgan in the middle, meaning that Marcin Wasilewski failed to feature for the first time since Gameweek 10. The Pole’s kind price tag has persuaded 5% of FPL managers to acquire his services but last night’s teamsheet now suggests that Pearson may turn to experience in his attempt to clinch the Foxes survival.

Tigers Find their Form

Steve Brue opted for a 3-5-2 formation for Hull’s crucial home encounter with Villa last night. The Tigers manager’s decision to partner Nikica Jelavic with new boy Dame N’Doye proved decisive after both grabbed a goal apiece in the 2-0 win – the latter also grabbed an assist on his first start and, at a price of just 5.5, now squares up to QPR, Stoke, Sunderland and Leicester in the next four Gameweeks.

At the back, Bruce once again left Curtis Davies on the bench as his side chalked up a second clean sheet in ten attempts. Hardly persuasive for those looking to invest in their defence and more a damning indictment of Villa’s dire form, with Paul Lambert once again utilising Christian Benteke as a sub as his side’s struggles continue.

R’s Cure Travel Sickness

Rolling up to the Stadium of Light without a manager and devoid of their injured top scorer, QPR looked like proverbial whipping boys for this one. Caretaker boss Chris Armstrong made six changes from the weekend and his decision to roll out a 4-2-3-1 formation proved instrumental in earning the R’s their first away points of the season. Matty Phillips provided a pair of assists from his role on the right, whilst Leroy Fer bagged a goal from the role in “the hole” behind fellow scorer Bobby Zamora before being subbed off injured. With a blank Gameweek 27 and showdowns against Arsenal and Spurs in the next four, though, Ramsey’s charges may struggle to earn a place in our short-term plans.

Black Cats Disappoint

Fantasy faith in Jermain Defoe was high heading into last night’s deadline. After serving up two goals and an assist in his first three matches, the Sunderland new boy was snapped up by over 140,000 managers prior to a home clash with QPR but his failure to produce against a side that had lost every previous away match raises concerns. Owners of the likes of Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt were left disappointed by the surprise loss but Gus Poyet’s troops at least have the schedule in their favour to recover – showdowns with West Brom, Hull and Villa in the next four look vital to their survival prospects.

Sturridge Brings in the Points

With Raheem Sterling ruled out through injury, the Liverpool forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 3 as Spurs rolled up to Anfield. Having been eased back into action with a couple of sub appearances, Sturridge made an instant impact upon his return to the first XI by providing assists for both Lazar Markovic and Steven Gerrard in a five-goal thriller.

Whilst Mario Balotelli’s winner may have hogged the headlines, Sturridge’s return to the fold will have caught the eye of Fantasy managers. Handed 73 minutes by Brendan Rodgers, he’s now starting to approach full match sharpness and at 11% ownership, remains a relative differential for those with cash to spare. The Reds’ fixtures could be a deterrent, though; Southampton, City, United and Arsenal in the next six will continue to test the Merseysiders, though judging by last night’s display, they’re back to their swashbuckling best.

Kane Delivers Yet Again

The Tottenham forward demonstrated his fixture-proof appeal with a goal and assist in the 3-2 defeat at Anfield. With maximum bonus also accrued, Kane served up a third successive double-figure haul to move to the top of the FPL forward standings – a fact that’s all the more remarkable bearing in mind he didn’t start a league match until Gameweek 11 and had played just 100 minutes until that point.

Moussa Dembele was handed a sixth successive start by Mauricio Pochettino as Nacer Chadli continues to rely on minutes off the bench. The former bagged a goal and has also picked up a pair of assists in his last three outings – at a price of 5.2, he may be worth monitoring ahead of Tottenham’s double Gameweek 28 fixtures against Swansea and QPR.

'People' are shipping him out by the bucket-load (3,000 transfers out today).
I reckon sensible people who had him in their teams will be waiting for more news.
A lot of knee-jerkers from last night who threw him in will probably be removing already.

Then there are people like me, who couldn't get online at the vital moment last night and missed the chance to bring in him. Wiping brow, now!

one goal-keeper, and three players from Chelsea/spurs for gameweek 27. 2 FTs in for gameweek 28 = 3 from spurs and 3 from Chelsea.

Not having any Leicester or QPR players in at all.

Are there likely to be more DGW's this season?

Since I have my original WC left and am staring at a 60 point deficit in my ML, is GW 28 the best time to use it? (provided Chelsea have a DGW that week)

      By my understanding yes.

I'll have 3 Chelsea and Kane and Eriksen. Is there anyone else you'd really want in this one?

Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool in the semis (not unreasonable) would yield Arsenal, Sunderland, West Ham, Man City, Liverpool and Hull doubles.

              Indeed.

I think 6 teams is about perfect DGW for a WC.

Any less and people can cover with the odd hit, any more and everyone has plenty anyways.

Just been looking now, needed to be sure there was going to be a better opportunity to WC.

By my reckoning, the cancelled games can't be played the next midweek due to CL QF's. So must be doubles and blanks.

the thing is, it's not just the teams who are left in the FA Cup - it's about their opponents in the postponed game as well.

Haven't done any research into it to see if any of the big guns will get their games postponed because of their opponents going through to the next round though

WHam, Liverpool, Arsenal, United all have potential for an FA Cup semi with blank and DGW. I'd have thought that would provide a very good opportunity, especially as people will (should) already have planned for GW 27/8 with their winter wildcards.

So far I have Kane Rose Hazard due to blank wk27.

Feel happy enough benching Spurs boys for 1 week at those prices.
But Hazard at his price not so easy. And it means 442 with no subs.

What are others doing? I kinda want to sell Hazard but then I'll have to get him and other Chelsea in for their DGW whenever that is.

I'm suprised people don't agree that Wildcarding for the upcoming DGW is smart. It not only gives you a good DGW without any hits, but your next couple of weeks will be stronger as well - you won't have no bench for starters and can take some punts e.g Utd at home to Sunderland in GW 27

Any chance of him being a regular starter from this point though?

I've commented plenty on this but I'm bored so may as well continue.

As far as I'm concerned, Alexis and Ozil are nailed on for 2 of the 4 attacking spots.

That leaves Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott, Ox, Cazorla to rotate for 2 spots in the side.

With Arsenal still in CL/FA cup there's plenty of games to share around, and I can see lots of rotation between these 5 over the rest of the season. It's possible that Wenger will prefer certain players for certain competitions so that's worth keeping an eye on.

Since coming back he's played 3 90's and been their best player.

He's also their biggest money signing ever, which shouldn't have an impact on selection but clearly does.

Also, he should be fresher than most having missed the Xmas period with injury.

Bit of a stretch here but is there a site or app available that calculates everyones scores minus the captain points?

So for example I am 22k normally but take away the captain scores I would be ...k?

I am sure this is the worst ever season for bad captain choices by myself, but the funny thing is the rest of my team scores okay, would be interesting to see where I am compared to everyone else.

My guess is that everyone put a lot of focus on the Arsenal game yesterday and are frustrated/upset lol. While there are a good set of games left, i bet a lot of people will have seen their captain play already, and many teams will have similar players to their fantasy league rivals to come. Not too many differentials left to care about for some (only a guess). i.e. I have Hazard Terry Clyne Aguero left, none of which i care about because so many people have them too.

Regretting my last minute changes quite a bit. Went against my gut because of the frenzy on here about Sanchez lol, oh well i guess..

I did Giroud (0 pts) Out for Defoe In (2 pts)
Silva (Yet to play) out for Sanchez (2 points and captained) for a -4 hit..
Won't have been a huge deal if Silva sucks today, but i hate watching/following a game praying that a player doesn't do anything for the full 90. Fingers crossed.

no it wasn't, with all these options and needing a prolonged rest to heal an injury. Actually surprised Wenger did that mistake too. I'm not saying Sanchez is a bad player, I love him, but there was a huge frenzy for nothing yesterday.

captain hindsight, ey? And btw, if you care about rank, you should hope silva scores well in FPL-terms.

Why? I dropped him out of my team for Sanchez.

I have been saying exactly the same thing about this for 2 weeks. No hindsight involved.

Yep, that's precisely what my mind told me to do. My gut had a feeling he would flop, not sure why. But i prefer to go with my mind and base it on all those factors you mentioned, then if i fail, I at least can back up why i did what i did.

what was the "best" choice in your opinion? and why?

Save FT was the best choice. For my squad anyway.

not sure I got your question.
Any arsenal player that you already had was a good choice yesterday, even Giroud if you already had him. 30 min of game could have been enough to score.
Taking hits to get another one was strange.

In terms of captaincy, well, Kane, as it has been the case for weeks now.
Mister consistent & not only fixture proof but actually better against better teams..

GW 27 is pretty limp the better teams have tough matches and the easier teams have easier matches. You may as well play your bench players and hope that week anyway and hope for a good GW 28

Hey guys, I just added a way to graph your epic mini league competitions as well as your team history. Let me know what you think.

My mini league is not epic.

So I don't think I'll worry about graphing it.

      That's really cool! 😀

Would it be possible to select which teams in your ML you want to see graphed? It's a bit hectic at the beginning with 20 or so teams. 🙂

yeah, it can look like a rat's nest with a lot of teams. I'll continue to add some more features which should help. Probably:

        view subset of teams
add individual team (if not in top 50)
maybe some more hover focus effects

hmm. couldnt get much out of it to be honest. There is a lot of data in there, but most of it seems irrelevant, as i dont think it would help me in the future. Also hard to suck the data out of it. good effort though.

If everyone would just keep transferring out Sigurddson and Costa then by Gameweek 28 I would be able to have this team http://imgur.com/ntqmbST

(3xchelsea, 3xspurs) with a full team playing in gameweek 27, and with no hits taken.

Sound like a plan? (baring injuries)

Lloris just isn't worth it imo.

Yeah i wouldn't get him for a hit. And would probably sell soon after as well for a cheaper keeper!

And that's exactly why I wouldn't do it. 2 FTs used to get him in/out is just a complete waste imo

Why take him out? It is the only way you will get a complete rosta of nailed on players for the DGW without a hit. Seems good to me

Because they're not keeping CSs and expensive GKs are horrendous value.

'Horrendous' might be a little extreme. Lloris is the third top goalkeeper (for points) behind forster and de gea; both more expensive.

If you order ALL players by value on FPL it displays 11 keepers!

Granted, cheaper, starting keepers are better value. I agree. But you can feel comfortable starting someone like Forster/Courtois or maybe even Lloris on a more regular basis.

For that week, yes, but there's no reason to spend more than ~9m on your GKs. It's just stashing 1m unnecessarily in your GKs

Same here. Although i don't have sanchez. But i can sell lloris further down the line if i need to free up funds for a cheapie (foster)
