South Africa - currently 0.2%. Apparently countries who make it compulsory to get the BCG (anti-TB) vaccine (like South Africa) are recording much lower mortality rates. » Read

All fair comments. Here is the latest paper from the Chinese (not sure if there is any propaganda reason to understate the number...) https://news.cgtn.com/news/2020-03-01/Paper-led-by-Chinese-expert-shows-fatality-rate-of-COVID-19-is-1-4--Ovyewq3OWA/index.html » Read

On the plus side - literally just read that the actual mortality rate is closer to 1.4%, and not 3.4%. » Read

That is a distinct possibility. Restaurants can adapt (to some level) by offering take-out etc., but pubs will have a big problem. The only other way, I would suggest, that this can improve before a vaccine is developed is if a very effective, cheap and fast test (similar to a breathalyzer test) can be developed, which will allow people to socialise at a reduced risk of infecting others. Not sure if it will take faster to develop the test or the vaccine, though. » Read

Yup - but the reason it's only 16k is because there is a flu vaccine...until there is a Corona vaccine the upper limit of mortality is effectively 2-3% of the total population. » Read

Sounds right. We have a virus, which is not seasonal, is highly contagious and can re-infect after you've already had it (i.e. limited immunisation is gained if you've already had it) - the only way the risk is reduced is if there is a vaccine. Otherwise it will just keep circulating the population. The isolation policies adopted all over the world are to try and spread the infection rate over a longer time-period - isolation doesn't offer a cure or remove the threat, only a vaccine can do that. » Read

This s basically a holding statement to buy time. If they announce the season is over then I'm pretty sure there will significant knock-on financial implications in terms of broadcast contracts etc. Can't play until an actual vaccine is available, IMO. » Read

  14. Update on FFScout Memberships 24 days, 12 hours ago

Apparently, according to some radio show I heard last night on the way home from work, the rule is that if the EPL is suspended for more than 60 consecutive days then the season is nullified, and the outcomes are exactly as you already mentioned. Basically a reset button - no official records of the games, no winner, no relegations etc. » Read

The problem are if there are any comorbidity issues - for example, a fit guy with asthma is significantly more at risk. If any of these people have any other significant underlying conditions - undiagnosed heart issues etc. then the risk is multiplied. Like I said, not wishing it happens, but will unfortunately not be too surprised if/when it happens. » Read

I'm not an alarmist by nature, but even though all these sports stars are the least susceptible to COVID-19, you just know at least one A-list sportsperson is going to succumb to this (the same way you just knew AM were going to overcome Pool last night when Pool didn't make the most of their 40+ shots at goal). When that happens, the necessity of all these extra games will be deeply questioned... » Read
