Our Monday afternoon regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Injuries

Arsenal
Olivier Giroud picked up an ankle problem towards the end of Saturday’s draw at Everton. Post-match, Arsene Wenger was a little pessimistic with his initial prognosis:

“It’s a stretched ankle. At the moment it doesn’t look too good.â€

Reports today suggest that, although Giroud told the French media he hoped to be fit for the midweek Champions League clash with Besiktas, Arsenal have some concerns over his availability.

Aston Villa
Aly Cissokho was subbed off towards the end of Saturday lunchtime’s goalless draw due to injury, the club’s official website has confirmed.

Chelsea
Withdrawn just after the hour mark of the weekend home win over Leicester, Andre Schurrle took to twitter to proclaim:

“Hope my leg is getting better the next days.â€

Crystal Palace
Joe Ledley was a late withdrawal from the side that lost to West Ham on Saturday after picking up a groin problem during the warm-up.

Everton
Steven Pienaar was forced off due to his groin early on in the Toffees’ home draw with Arsenal. Post-match, Roberto Martinez revealed Romelu Lukaku had been hampered by a toe problem during the match:

“Romelu has been struggling with a knock on his toe and he did incredibly well to be available today. The fans need to know and it is an example of our football Club that he did everything to be available for the game to help the players. To last over 70 minutes was an incredible gesture and he was terrific for Naismith’s goal – I couldn’t be prouder of his attitude and the way he represented our Club today.â€

Leicester
Midfielder Dean Hammond was withdrawn during the loss at Chelsea with leg cramp, Nigel Pearson has confirmed.

Manchester United
Louis van Gaal’s injury worries at the back show little sign of abating. Chris Smalling became the latest defender to make his way onto the treatment table after limping out of the 1-1 draw at Sunderland due to a groin problem.

QPR
Charlie Austin missed Sunday’s hammering at White Hart Lane due to a hamstring injury.

Stoke
Glenn Whelan was forced off during yesterday’s draw at Hull due to an ankle problem, allowing Bojan Krkic to take his place off the bench.

Sunderland
The Black Cats wide man Adam Johnson missed yesterday’s home encounter with United due to illness.

West Brom
New left-back Sebastien Pocognoli and Victor Anichebe were both replaced in the weekend draw at Southampton after picking up injuries, confirm the club’s official website.

West Ham
Kevin Nolan missed the trip to Palace due to a shoulder injury, according to the Hammers’ twitter feed. Sam Allardyce has since conceded:

“It could be six weeks and it’s a massive blow to him and us. We’ve got five out. Those missing play a big part in our squad and our team.”

Suspensions

Hull’s James Chester disappointed the 128,000 FPL managers who drafted him in last week with a red card and a haul of minus two points at home to Stoke. The centre-half sits out the weekend trip to Villa but will be available for the Gameweek 4 home encounter against West Ham.

Who will benefit most / be hurt most by Balo + Di Maria?
    - Rooney?
    - Mata?
    - Sturridge?
    - Pool Mids?

Thinking the benefactors are Rooney and Pool Mids probably, personally.

Don't really think this a proper question as you are combining the two clubs.

Di Maria will have a positive impact on united.
No reason whey RVP Rooney mata and di Maria can't fit into the same starting 11

      As for Liverpool I couldn't give a shit. 😉

Well my fantasy team combines several clubs, that is why I am posing the question. Wondering whether people think for example, Mata's value goes down because ADM will take some of his space, or whether Rooney goes up because he has better assists coming in, or whether he too gets pushed out somehow. Same question essentially at the same time for Pool with Balo.

Funny, I feel Studge benefits the most with the arrival of Mario.
He played alongside Suarez and did pretty well.

Most hurt by Di Maria arrival is the weaker Man Utd Mids: Januzaj, Cleverly because they won't play now.

Nice midfield. Eriksen has disappointed but had a lot of touches in the box which is usually a good sign of points to come.

As a saints fan I commend your faith in tadic. I like him too, but not got him in yet.

I'd be pretty worried about not having Rambo if he's going to be anything like last season - maybe Eriksen would be worth swapping to him if you can afford it?

I am. He'll come good, it's not like he did badly yesterday, he had some good chances. Only reason people are selling him is because Lamela got the assists. For me both Lamela and Eriksen are sure to score good points this season.

Until he's injured or dropped. He's an untouchable. Will come good. Will score at least five direct free kicks over season alone and because of his creativity he will always get bonus points if he scores or assists. Was very unlucky yesterday.

Last season, Danny Welbeck was given a run of games centrally GW16-22.

    Minutes: 543
    Goals: 6
    Assists: 1
    Bonus: 4

The only issue will be how he fits in with Lukaku, and Martinez's usual 4-2-3-1.

I've got nothing against Rooney (and I have him) but I see RVP/Welbeck as their best front two. He has pace (unlike the other two) and talent... and given confidence, he can finish. United's loss, Everton's gain.

That is largely irrelevent at this stage when forecasting his potential for further goals (i.e the point of using stats)

Last season he showed he can score. His goal threat has actually increased this season so far. Therefore its reasonable to assume he will equal or surpass his goal tally from last season.

For an accountant you have a poor grasping of the importance of stats. The point is it's unlikely Chadli will keep his scoring up, and that Caulker is bound to score if he continues at that rate.

I have 2 free transfers this week and will be keeping bojan, caulker and de Gea. I only need bojan to play in gw4 , caulker will score decently over the season and united will keep clean sheets with their fixtures even though they look dodgy at the minute. Will take a hit on the price drops as I did with mata this week and just collect the points instead.

Still not sure my overall rank of 876 can be true, but I'll take it! I'm sure it won't last, loving every second for now. I have 2 FT and having a hard time decide.

    Bego
    Terry Clyne PvA
    Mata Ramsey Fab Siggy
    Rooney Costa Dzeko

    Subs: Gilks Moore Marney Hutton

I think it's time to ditch Bego for Krul, seems to be the popular option.

Should I bother doing Moore -> Wisdom, or just save the FT since the transfer window is ending?

well put it this way...I'm 19 points behind you with an almost identical team...and sterling and dzeko to play...and in position 39,000...so there's one hell of a crowd heading in your direction

      feeling the pressure?

think you can take 36 weeks of it?

      1. Wonderful Wizard Hazard
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 10 months ago

Haha that's crazy, 39,000 positions for 19 points. I can definitely take the pressure, but not sure I'll be able to keep up this good fortune and team picking for 36 weeks. I'll just take a screenshot of my current rank and have it framed.

Do you have Sterling over Mata, or both? Worried about having Roon+Mata with MU's form, but I think they will still produce. Don't want to lose value though. If Sterling has another great match today, I might do Bego -> Krul and Mata -> Sterling. That would give me 0.9m itb for a rainy day 🙂

          • 12 Years
          11 years, 10 months ago

Also tempted by Silva, would be willing to do Mata -> Silva if he has a good match as well. Always tempted by Kun, but would have to make too many changes to get him in right now. Will wait for him to stay healthy for at least a couple weeks.
