With such a proliferation of midfield talent, a strong five across the middle will leave many Fantasy Managers with one striker benched for the majority of the season. It makes perfect sense to explore a budget option for this third striker then, but at the same time, this option needs to be one that can at least contribute points when called upon.

The Blackpool pairing of DJ Campbell and Luke Varney are that rare commodity – bargain basement strikers that appear to offer regular starts and the promise of Fantasy returns that more than justify the outlay. Currently priced at just 4.5 and 4.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game, they offer the perfect solution for those Fantasy Managers looking to balance the books to help crowbar Cesc Fabregas back into their lineups.

Varney certainly has the statistical edge on his team mate. The former Charlton striker has returned 2 goals and 4 assists so far this term and his Opta stats appear to show greater potential in both areas. Despite those numbers, Campbell seems to offer the greater security when it comes to a starting role and pitch time. The diminutive striker has started every game since his arrival from Leicester and has completed the 90 minutes in each of them. Varney, in contrast, was on the bench against Blackburn and was subbed against both Newcastle, Chelsea and again this weekend at Birmingham.

You get the feeling that Ian Holloway is a massive fan of Campbell and has faith in him to produce. In my view, barring injury, Campbell will play regardless of form, while Varney has competition for his starting role from Marlon Harewood and Brett Ormerod. There’s no doubting that Campbell’s form is a concern, no goal in his last five starts, has kept him under the radar, but the striker is performing well enough and Holloway is keeping the faith. Only today, reports include quotes from the player himself bemoaning his lack of goals but promising an improvement…

“I feel there is a good run coming on and a few goals on the way, so I just have to keep getting in the right places and fingers crossed it will happen.”

Regardless of your weapon of choice, this is a good time to consider the Blackpool pair. The return of Fabregas as an option in midfield will have bloated the midfield budget and while cheap defensive options are always available, the shift to 3-5-2 as the preferred FPL formation, surely creates a need for a budget option up front. This is compounded by the fact that both Varney and Campbell actually offer potential as Fantasy starters over the mid-term.

Ian Holloway’s side have a very decent run of opponents to come (WBA EVE avl whm WOL bol ) all of which appear to offer the potential of attacking returns. If you can’t find a place for Charlie Adam in your lineup, then one of Campbell or Varney offer the opportunity to capture those returns.

They are also major differentials of course – neither top 2% ownership right now, with Campbell registering a paltry 0.3%. That appears to make them good options to help with the “route to recruit” for Cesc Fabregas, with the promise of some cheeky cheap returns to come over the next month.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've gone for Chamakh for a 2 week punt at home with RVP still recovering. I think he will get a lot of service and the guy plays very well and scores most of his points at the Emirates. If he is on 2 goals vs WHU Wenger will also probably keep him on to score the possible third.
          Here's hoping anyways.

The Arteta injury is probably the worst that could have happen for a lot of us... He is still a differential and has one of his best fixtures this year. I doubt he will play, Moyes won't be to tempted to play him against Stoke.

Decided to keep Tevez now, it sux that alot of people have gotten Fabregas for him now, but then again they will have a hard time getting Tevez in a week against WBA.

He won't be back in a week though. There's a doubt that he'll even be back for the Manchester derby.

He also appears to have issues which should concern anyone who owns him right now.

Considering all that and the fact that he's unlikely to be earning anyone any points for the next 3 weeks?

Its not surprising that most Tevez owners, myself included, have decided that keeping the highest scoring midfielder, ditching the 3rd highest scoring FPL striker and replacing him with the 4th placed striker and then ditching a no longer more than 2 points a game scoring MF and turning him into Fabregas represents a good bit of business.

But, hey, at least it won't cost you anything to buy him back, when and if he eventually decides to return, Lofl.

Malouda out, Fabs in? Or other ideas?
    Team: Schwarzer,
    Elmo-Coleman-ACole-Foley(...)
    Malouda-Van der Vaart-Nani
    Chamakh-Berbatov-Drogba
(Albrighton, De Jong, Perch, Gilks. 1.0 in the bank)

Disregard a couple of obvious weaknesses: How do I get Fabregas?
I don't see how I can do that without losing Malouda, VDV or Nani (or doing a few more swaps costing me a few points and ACole, don't like the idea of losing ACole either).
I think Nani and VDV are too much value for money to let them go, but at the same time Malouda is the best FPL midfielder so far.
I guess my main idea would be to swap Malouda for Fab (plus a little money from swapping away Schwarzer or Berbatov). But is it worth it?

Is Wilshere good value @ 5m? I'm looking for a fabs enabler and I'm tempted by Wilshere even though he is suspended this weekend. I fancy him to get a reasonable amount of game time this season, and being my "fifth" midfielder, I don't imagine I would be playing him week in week out

Only other players in price bracket I would consider are Holden and Morrison..

    Thoughts?

What's you bench like? Is it really worth a 4 point hit if he returns next weekend vs WBA?

I have 2 teams. I do my moves on Saturday just before kickout if possible. Probably Nasri in for the money aspect is one.

I'm still learning the money aspect but am getting to grips with it. I've gone for Cesc for points this weekend and he can stay in the team for good now, I hope.

Cesc will be about 1 million cheaper next week. Have to look at the money situation. Might get Nasri & Cesc but 1 goal conceded equals big damage.
