Fulham continued to bolster their first-team squad on Thursday with the announcement that Hugo Rodallega will join up at Craven Cottage, subject to the player obtaining a work permit. The Colombian arrives on a Bosman after his contract at Wigan expired and has signed a three-year deal with Martin Jol’s side:

Rodallega’s acquisition helps address the problematic up front area, which has seen Bobby Zamora, Andrew Johnson, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Orlando Sa all depart the London outfit over the last few months and, with Mladen Petric also arriving this summer, is likely to see a brand new front line for Fulham in the upcoming season. Jol, clearly, was more than happy with the transfer:

I am delighted that Hugo has decided to join Fulham. There has been a lot of interest in him from other top flight teams in England and abroad, so to be able to add his quality to our squad is a massive boost this early in our preparations for the new campaign. He is a great addition and I think he will contribute very well to our style and philosophy here.

The Statistics

Rodallega’s professional career begun as an 18-year-old in his native country where, over the course of a couple of seasons with Deportes Quindío and Deportivo Cali, he netted 32 times in 69 league appearances. His performances with the latter earned a move to Mexican outfit Monterrey, who snapped up the Colombian in 2006. The move was far from successful, though; 29 appearances harvested just four goals before Rodallega was sent on loan to Atlas, where he notched five times in 19 games.

Next up was another stint in the Mexican first division with Necaxa, where 25 goals and three assists in 51 matches caught the eye of then-Wigan boss Steve Bruce, who purchased the player in January 2009 for £4.5m. Over the course of his four seasons with the Latics, Rodallega had just one stand-out campaign; in 2009/10, the Colombian excelled as a mid-price Fantasy option with 10 goals, seven assists and 23 bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, returning a total of 149 points. His overall stats are a little disappointing, though – Rodallega notched 24 times and provided 16 assists in 116 league matches. Having admitted he had no plans to renew his contract this summer, the forward was a peripheral figure under Roberto Martinez last time round – handed a mere 11 starts, he slipped down the pecking order behind Franco Di Santo up front and found the net on just two occasions.

The Prospects

At present, Rodallega looks a strong candidate for a regular role under Jol next season, either partnering Petric in a 4-4-2 or leading the line as a lone frontman, with the latter tucked in behind – as to his initial level of investment, much is likely to depend on Clint Dempsey. The US international comes off the back of an outstanding season and, bearing in mind he was the top scoring midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, is almost certain to attract major interest from Fantasy managers looking to snap up Fulham’s attacking assets.

Dempsey’s price will also be a key factor as to how we view the likes of Rodallega and Petric; he is now in the top price bracket for midfielders in the Sky Sports game at 8.6 and a jump from his previous FPL valuation of 8.5 could see many seeking alternatives amongst Jol’s squad. A move away from the Cottage for Dempsey, with Liverpool rumoured to be interested, would certainly see us reassess Rodallega’s potential – Fulham were particularly strong at home last term, scoring 36 goals – just three less than Spurs and Arsenal – and proved to be a strong source of attacking points in front of their own fans thanks to Jol’s tactics.

The former Wigan man can be expected to come in around the 6.0 – 6.5 mark in FPL next term, affording us a decent mid-price option as we look to balance the budgets; with the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic already handed price tags of 9.5 and 8.5 respectively, the need for a cheap third striker looks all the more obvious, with big hitters such as Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Robin Van Persie all looking likely to be valued around 12.0 or more. Certainly, Rodallega has been looked upon kindly by the Sky Sports game with a price tag of 6.7, compared to Petric at 6.8 and Moussa Dembele’s valuation of 7.7.

Analysing the fixture list, Rodallega is afforded a decent start to the season. While a trip to United and home clash with City hold little appeal over the first six Gameweeks, home clashes with Norwich and West Brom, supplemented by trips to West Ham and former club Wigan, offer a chance to get amongst the points and make an immediate impact in his new surroundings.

Maybe that there was a helluva lot bigger problems for Liverpool last season than Charlie Adam
Jay Spearing - another one that shows a lot of potential to me but doesnt seem to get much support from scousers
I just thought Dalgleish picked the wrong players all season - leaving Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi out for further example

Yep, I would agree with that....and that is why KK was sacked........as Glazernomics says below, they potentially have a very competitive front 5 or 6 for next season, IF they get Dempsey and Suarez stops hitting the bar/post/front pages...

spearing is as good as cheik tiote imo but needs a further season or two.
kuyt and maxi have reached their expiry dates imo
adam was used to a certain role before coming to pool from pool
over there he was the boss and the playmaker and other players were doing the tracking back while he is resting
in liverpool he was just a regular team player, a role that doesnt fit him very well
this lack of workrate is why rangers (RIP) sold him to blackpool for a few quids
he will never be good enough for a big team but can easily fit in a small one when he takes everything in hand.
a superstar of that kind is one of my favorite and most underrated players ivan de la pena

    Updated my site. http://thefourpointhit.wordpress.com/2012/07/14/suarez-dempsey-walters/

From our 32 entries, all three players are looking slightly undervalued, coming in with average guessed prices of £9.7m, £9.9m and £6.8m. However, if Walters is listed as a striker this season, there is likely to be less interest, given that goals are only worth 4 points, and they receive no clean sheet points.

Nobody correctly predicted all three players’ prices, but 6 people had a total variance of just £0.5m for this round (China Mag, icerock, Adz, grohlisagod, littlewizard123, Running Riot). Below is the leaderboard so far.

Any guesses as to Pool's first choice XI this season? Beyond the back it gets complicated...

    Reina
    Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
    Henderson - Lucas
    Borini - Gerrard - Bellamy
    Suarez

With Borini and Suarez potentially inverted? And I'd imagine if they sign Dempsey he comes in for Henderson and Gerrard moves back. In which case that's a pretty sexy front 4.

Best season ever. It had it all. The games between the top clubs were outrageous. Great goals. Tragedies of Speed & Muamba. The Return of King Henry. Everything going down to the last day of the season. That Aguero goal which had all neutrals jumping out of their seat. It won't be topped.

Think I'll take a punt on Downing if he gets nailed on for Liverpool when he fixtures ease up. Fair enough, out of all the time he had last season he did nothing. But take a look at his stats. The amount of crosses he made (unsuccessful fair enough) is pretty good. In fact many of his stats (obviously except accuracy) are almost identical to Valencia. Downing has more crosses made and corners. If Downing was more accurate he would be a left-sided Valencia. I know that's a big IF. Surely if he dropped to lets say 5.5 he's worth the risk. Suarez had so many missed chances last year and yet people are gonna take a gamble this season too, even at 9.5 - their argument is that he won't replicate all those misses or inaccuracies. Same could be said for Downing though. Liverpool had one of the highest stats for goals scored from set pieces and I can see Downing being a big contribution next season.

      It didn't work.

I would have him at some point in the season for £5.5m, don't think he will be that low though.

Players who participated in the Euros all due to return to their respective clubs shortly. The transfer domino effect should then pick up quickly.

It's interesting how City are desperately trying to shed playing staff to fall in line with FFP, before making any acquisitions. Apparently they're paying a percentage of Adebayor's wages. Levy is indeed very, very shrewd.

All we needed was one big transfer to get things going and thats Ibra and Silva to PSG. Let the chain reaction begin!

The paying a % of wages for loan players is common in football. Especially for big clubs who have fringe players on massive wages. No point paying a full £150k week for a player who won't play. This is also common for young loan players. If a team like Liverpool, Utd want to loan a talented youngster to a league 2 team, they usually offer to pay his wages (or proportion) for some first team experience.

He's signed for spurs permanently now though, ad they're still paying some of his wages, was what he meant I think

Oh I see. That's different then. Brilliant work from Levy. How does it work? Will city pay a % wages for adebayors entire spurs contract?

As De Gea is in the Spanish Olympic squad, and they will probably do well in that tournament, is there a chance that Man Utd will start the season with Lindegaard?
