With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persie’s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchman’s move to Old Trafford is – from a Fantasy perspective – arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Ferguson’s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney – with 269 and 230 points respectively – will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the other’s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers – if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchman’s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persie’s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunners’ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving – a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs – Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though it’s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didn’t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

We’ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Could use some help lads

    Cech, Jaaska

    A.Cole, Tomkins, Hangeland, Cuellar, Gorkss

    Noble, NZogbia, Bale, Yaya, Kagawa

    Graham, Torres, Tevez

2.5 in the bank. Thinking of offloading Kagawa...

Good team. I have Kagawa too but have to offload him now because he is too much of a rotation risk. He may play GW1 but after that he will be rotated.

      Gunter - Gorkss - Pearce - Harte

Mariappa will eventually replace one of the CBs.
Harte will get rotated with Shorey.

    Thoughts?

    De Gea, Federici
    Ivanovic, Zabaleta, Cuellar, Hughes, Demel
    Mata, VDV, Dyer, Noble, Guthrie
    Aguero, Tevez, Torres
    Bank 0.0m

Probably go without MUN attack for GW2, and then Torres & Ivanovic/Mata -> Rooney/RVP & a cheapie/Pienaar in GW3 (form depending), and then lose one of the MCY strikers in GW4.

    Hi Guys, please RMT
I would really appreciate hearing your views

I present the quintessential fantasy football team

    Federici/Green
    Zabaleta/A.Cole/hangeland (Demel, Clyne)
    Bale/Mata/Lamps/Dyer/Guthrie
    Torres/Tevez/Graham

I have .5m in the bank

goalies suck, who cares. No one wins this off the back of the goalies and CLs are getting few and far between

    Defence, strong, balance

2 x Chelsea mids - Torres is an unreliable arse. seriously, would anyone really be surprises if he gets 4 points for the dgw?
The points will come from midfield as usual. Hence Mata and Lamps

forwards....graham..ok standard. but Aguero and Teves, they will tear Southampton apart. and i refuse to be the guy to make the wrong pick between the two.

now this is where the magic happens... i see lamps as a wild card, in combination with either Cole, Teves and Aguero. lamp plus one of them can be pretty much any 2 players i wont them to be. rooney, Rvp... who ever.

so i milk the dgw, milk the city game, no Tevez Aguero mistake. i can sit back swap lamps +1, for the form man u player or what ever with no gw 3 head aches - boom!!

Not sure if I am missing something about Aston Villa. They have ok fixtures but line up wise-

    Given
    Lowton Clark Vlar Warnock
Nzog Ireland El Ahmadi Holman Bannan
    Bent

Now im not saying that is for sure the starting 11 but its a pretty poor team. No-one remember the hype on N Zog this time last year? And Ireland, brings to mind the phrase cant polish a turd.

For me Bent is the only Villa player that slightly interests me but forward spots to valuable.

All 3 new signings started in the game against cologne. Cazorla in the attacking mid spot, Podolski LW, and Giroud ST. They all played 45 but pod stayed on in the 2nd half in the attacking mid spot, making room for gervinho.

If you watch that game ( I know it's pre-season) they all played particularly well. Giroud should have scored but the GK made some great stops. He's a big boy and should cause defenders a nightmare. Podolski looked great and 2 goals that he created were very well taken. All be on from the spot. Cazorla added some creativity I havent seen in some time through the middle and really think he can be the spark that sets Arsenal in fire next season.

Walcott has had a quality pre-season, looking confident and actually shooting. If fit I think he should have no problem bagging somewhere near the same numbers as last year. Worry about his defensive responsibilities though until sagna is back. Not sure how much they'll let him fly.

I'm trying to choose a particular midfield balance

    A) 2 big hitters, 3 mid priced (6-6.5m)

    B) 3 big hitters, 1 mid, 1 cheap

I really like the idea of plan A) rotating 3 mid priced players starting 2 and benching 1. I'm just not convinced with the cheap midfielders out there due to rotation or the lack of FPL potential. There is also a lack of sure big hitting midfielders as well.

    Has anyone considered this

i just can't see rvp rooney kagawa all starting, unless kagawa is playing as one of the wingers

      or

      Carrick
      Valencia Nani/young
      kagawa
      rvp roon

but that would leave a really weak center mid, so i can't see SAF using this tactic either

    Scwarzher (Begovic)
Kompany, Cole, Terry (c). (Demel, Clyne)
    Pieenar, Mata, Bale, Dyer (Britton)
    Graham, Podoloski, Aguero

    No money left

Slightly different approach, going 3 back guns, none are rotation risk

    I will go Terry to Vidic/Verm GW3

    let's hope it works!!!

So although I did have a great feeling about my three heavy hitter team, I have decided that it's probably more practical to stick to 2 and then have Graham as I think he will be great this season so therefore not costing many points as opposed to Maloney/Noble who have the capability of delivering many 2 point weeks. I have come up with a team, I think is extremely capable of delivering the goods, but need 0.5 more to fund the Torres > Rooney transfer. And, yes I still hold much confidence in Rooney after the RVP transfer as this will definitely, imo, add to his score with many more assists being added to his name without taking away too many goals. So:

Can you find 0.5 from this team/do you have any suggestions?
    Schwarzer Green
    Ivanovic Zabaleta Cuellar Clyne McCartney
    Bale Cazorla Mata Pienaar Guthrie
    Tevez Torres Graham
    Sorry for the long post
