Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

    I think i'm going to put my money where my mouth is an put marveaux in from the start instead of guthrie

    FOR
    Almost definite starter against a crippled spurs team
    Good chance of getting a run in the team as left forward
    MUCH more points potential than any of the other 4.5m
    4 good fixtures in the first 6 (as spurs are missing half a team)
    Get more flexibility by not having guthrie (misses GW3)
    Don't want to have to waste a transfer on him if he does start and do well
    Should make some cash (if he does start and do well)

    AGAINST
    He might not start, or at least not play many games (though i think he will start), HOWEVER, if so, he can just be like a ferguson in your team until you can shift him
    Injury prone

      Hey China, have you looked at Robson-Kanu (REA). 4.5m and seemingly on pens when on the field (he took REA's last one when Harte and Le Fondre were also on the pitch). Question marks over his nailed-on-ness, but he's very attacking so could be worth a punt. I'm considering him over Guthrie, as in all honesty, they will probably only start for me in GW1.

      So the punt would be that Marveaux will score more than 4pts first up againt Spurs? Guthrie playing a full 90min for Reading, and not doing much in the way of cards, goals, assists, BPs etc, would score 4pts

      What are Marveaux's chances of retaining a role in Pardew's starting XI in the next month?

        Defenitely a bit of a risk though. But if you can't risk on your 5th mid, when can you risk!!

        Can't remember if I mentioned this to you but am really thinking I'll be facing an early wildcard no matter what I do anyway. So am hence punting a little bit more on the likes of Jenkinson, Marveaux, Maloney. Yannaris looks like very much a fringe option to me. BTW he's not even in the FPL player list!

      Not sure myself on jenkinson, gerrard. n'zog and torres mate.

      Id look to bring in mata instead of gerrard, michue/larsson instead of n'zog and anyone instead of jenks.

      Also would not captain a defender! Tevez prob best choice out of that team

        Still might crack and switch Gerrard to Mata or Lampard, but I think Gerrard will be far more influential playing in the hole for Liverpool than either will be in the galaxy of midfielders that is Chelsea. N'Zogbia was a massively proven midfielder until McLeish ruined Villa, so under Lambert I don't see him as a big punt.

        It's between Torres and Ivanovic for me - too much point sharing in the City attack and we've all been there with Torres before. At least if I captain Ivanovic, I effectively have two "goals" (2x4pts) in the bag before a ball is kicked with possible attacking points to come.

          Mata has the double and form from last year. Gerrard has bad fixtures and can't be counted to play every game anymore 🙁

          N'zogs did get allot of points from the old BP system, not sure about him , esp with Lamberts rotation tendency.

          Well I would not have torres if you don't believe in him. Not so sure Chelsea with keep two clean sheets either!

    Ahhhh China! Just as I thought I was close to being complete you made me ponder over Marveaux again...surely Guthrie will outscore him GW1 and when he's my fifth midfielder, the next worst being Pienaar he's not going to see much playing time so then is his limited gametime after first few gameweeks really worth putting him into my team?
