Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

          Especially with RVP entering the fray! RVPs creativity and passing will help Rooney score, and Rooney will get more assists. An assist is only 1pt less than a goal remember.

      I certainly hope he is. He was very good in La Liga, had a great pre-season and seems to be linking up very well with Graham. Swansea look like they will be more attacking this season, so I see points for him.

    Curse my obsessive tinkering! Must have made about 100 transfers since my inaugural team. Would very much appreciate everyones thoughts on these fair polar opposites.

    There's not been a lot of love for Podolski or Arsenal's early fixtures on these boards but the big scores against Sun and Sot alone could be worth it. Liverpool look shaky at the back with Rodgers' high line and Stoke are without the mighty Huth (aren't they?)

    Many might also be questioning Gerrards inclusion over Mata or similar, but the strength of opposition for Gerrard (and Liverpool in general) usually works in their favour. The same reason I'm staying clear of RVP/Rooney is why I'm staying clear of Mata, Yaya, Kags. You just don't know out of all these front lines bursting with talent who is gonna grab the points yet.

    When its a fair bet Gerrard will nab something even when Liverpool lose.

    So have I convinced anyone?

    So what's the verdict on the Cashley/Ivanovic conundrum?

    Me thinks Ivan might be the better pick as there's no competition for his place with the Azpilicueta deal stalling, while Cashley could be rested ahead of Super Cup with Bertrand emerging as a viable alternative.

    Anyone playing the Sky Sports game? I am struggling with these rules particularly the following:

    "In order to be eligible for scoring, transfers must be made before the earliest kick off that day; transfers made after the earliest kick off will start scoring from the next day. For example: If you transfer in Rooney before the earliest kick off on Saturday he will be eligible to score points immediately.
