Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Madness to go with Tevez over Aguero even with £3m in the bank?

      Aguero +3 or Tevez +5,5?
If so, go with Tevez and upgrade your team a bit, imo

Mr Blue, I thought the same as you. Had money sitting for GW2 or GW3 but in the end I spent the lot. Ended up with the team below.

            Fed (Jaas)
Clark (AVL) , Hangeland, ACole, (Clyne , McCartney)
Bale, YY Toure, Mata, Britton, (Noble)
            Torres, Aguero, Tevez

Just need to move a couple of the CHE players out before GW3

I wouldnt they rest their best player before a CL game? Surely the risk is atleast as high as them resting Tevez.. ?!

Love this "What if..." there are soo many great strikers in PL, so.. without giving my team away..
"What if..." Podski scores for fun? Suarez scores for fun? Bent scores for fun? Jelavic scores for fun? and so on..
The thing is, Van Persie MUST score loads of goals considering hes 13m (!!)

I think, judging from RVP's previous point per game ratio, that he has the greater chance of going on a serious run of high scoring games.

You are right though, there are so many good strikers and having some dosh left to get them when they come into form can only be a good thing right?

    My first RMT:

    Vorm
    Assou-Ekotto Kolarov Shawcross
    Sigurdsson Allen Kagawa Silva
    Graham Aguero Torres(C)

    Bench:
    Cerny
    Barnett

    Britton

Might switch out Kolarov for clichy. Thoughts on anything else?

      cerny won't play/start
      bench looks a bit weak...
not so sure how swans will do defensively this season
don't think shawcross is a good pick. theres better options in that price range such as hangeland, cueller (4.5) and fabio (4.5) among others. those are just my preferred ones.
why not a chelsea defender for the double instead of bae? you can always switch to bae later. and later on you will know which spurs center backs are nailed on and can get one for 5.0 or 5.5 depending who it is.
silva is not fit so will probably only come on as a sub the first gw or two (or three)
kagawa gametime and position uncertain after rvp signing
i'd get lamps with the double over siggy. especially cuz siggy will. probably drop into modrics role unless they get a replacement

Also, why are their defenders points projections so low? Surely sunderland will keep loads more clean sheets than the promoted teams. Martin O'Neill will keep them very tight, and they have rubbish forwards, so will have to concentrate on their defence!

What price do people think Kyle Bartley will come in at Swansea?

I'm thinking he could be a cheaper route into the Swansea defence and this year's Caulker. He wasn't listed as an Arsenal player but hoping he still comes in at 4.0-4.5 instead of 5.0 like the rest of their defenders!

    Definitely 1 to watch!

I will be honest, in the last 3 years whenever I have been a part of the pre-season here, you end up with a somewhat generic team. It just happens whether you want it to or not. Now the thing is that you get around 10 players who do as well as you predicted, maybe 2/3 of these 10 even exceed expectations. The place where we often go wrong on is picking the right emerging player using your free transfer each week, and getting rid of the Moses of your team. That's what gonna be really crucial down the line. Try to snap the right player and things will turn out just fine.

Carzola unproven in EPL and with no RVP on the end of everything his point return potential has shot down and also fixtures arent that great for first few weeks...I myself am steering clear of arsenal for the foreseeable future . B IMO Camzy, but I'd go with one of Larsson/McClean/Pienaar instead of Michu.

I'm avoiding new signings this year - it's just one gamble I could do without.

Plus I fancy Graham as being better value and I like the balance of my team with him in it.

I'd imagine at least one start out of the 2 games in GW1 but I would be surprised if he gets the full 180 mins. Perhaps 120-140 mins is more realistic

Hi all, hope your final tinkering is coming along well!

I usually don't like to do this but I've got to a point where I just don't know what to do with ONE position in my team! Long-term I have ideas depending on how it plays out in the United attack and once Silva is back to full-fitness and nailed on. However, short-term I just don't know what to do! I'm pretty happy with the rest of my team too.

Who do you think will be the safest pick out of these? Budget is £8.5-9m, the £0.5m difference being between picking Lescott (ideal scenario if he's fit) and Zabaleta.

    a) Yaya - not the most threatening player in the City team but nailed on. Probably not worth £8m but he'll probably be upgraded anyway after a few weeks.

    b) Lampard - DGW and a decent threat from set-pieces and perhaps the odd trademark late run into the box. Might not play 270 minutes over the 2 GWs but still should get a decent amount. Would mean double Chelsea attack (something I'm not keen on) and force me to do at least one transfer in GW2 to play 7 attackers.

    c) "6.5m mid (I already plan to pick 2 but I could always go with 3; Zog, McClean & Pienaar)

    d) other - any ideas would be appreciated!

    For reference:

    DdG (Federici)

    Zab/Lescott Cole/Ivanovic Hangeland Cuellar Demel

    Bale Zog/McClean Pienaar Noble -x-

    Tevez Torres Graham

Yeah, I thought so too. At least with Yaya, I know he will stay in the team long-term whereas with Nasri I'll probably be forced into a transfer.

        Cheers

If its just a short punt, u could go for Nasri I guess.. (I wont tho).
Kagawa/Nani/Valencia? U have no united cover...

I should have said, I've got the customary £2m reserved, perhaps to do Torres > Rooney but I'd be open to doing X > United mid (e.g. Valencia) in a couple of weeks once the picture is clear with United's attack

    Pick Team A or B

    A) DDG - Federici
    Lescott - Hangeland - Saylor - Demel - Barnett
    Nasri - Hazard - Michu - Maloney - Guthrie
    Aguero - Torres - Graham

3.5m spare for Nasri -> Silva and Torres -> Rooney

    B) DDG - Cerny
    Zabaleta - Hangeland - Saylor - Demel - Barnett
    Nasri - Hazard - Michu - Maloney - Guthrie
    Aguero - Torres Graham

4.5m spare for Torres -> RVP and Nasri -> Silva

I know I've weakened my defence to fund torres -> rvp in team 2 but I'm hesitant to stick with torres -> rooney out of fear that rooney will be playing in a cam role and rvp will play up top getting the majority of the points.

Bale, YY Toure, Mata, Britton, (Noble)
    Torres, Aguero, Tevez

    Hello all!

I'm finalizing my team and a short term plan lasting 3 GWs. Think I'm all set to go. Just wondering now if Tevez is captaincy material if I am to have him in my team. 'cause with Aguero, you can afford to captain him every home game.

I have the same question, but as i can't afford Aguero, i'll cross my fingers and captain Tevez in GW3.
