“A template” – something that serves as a model for others to copy.

Thanks to the painful international break, we’ve had a testing fortnight during which time we’ve appeared to witness a trend that has seen the birth of a “cookie cutter” Fantasy lineup – much to the frustration of those quick to seize on the merits of Eden Hazard, Michu and company.

Back from our enforced holidays, Granville and I aren’t exactly international bright young things – more jaded, grizzled old grumps who are hoping that somebody steps forward to shake things up. As long as it’s not Gareth Bale – I sold him for Michu. Yeah, busted: I’m as bad as the rest of ‘em.

Wildcard played before the break, I attempt to get Granville to admit its failure, whilst thanking him for his calming words which cooled my boots as my finger hovered over the squad refresh button. I still can’t quite work out why he talked me out of it – a cunning long term strategy perhaps? Surely not?

Break the mould by listening in via this link or use the handy player below to stream the goodness…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    G'day DZers
One for the brains trust. Pretty happy with front 8 but in a conundrum over my defence. WC is active.
    Do you prefer
    Jussi, Bego
    Rangel, McAuley, Baines, Cuellar, Clark

    or
    Jussi, Begovic
    Baines, Ivanovic, Clark, Gorkss, Clyne

is it worth having 2 weaker defenders to accomodate Ivanovic or go for more depth with option A?

    thanks in advance

I'd go with A too. Don't bother upgrading defence too much as it won't be your greatest source of points... Unless there's real value to it.

would appreciate some more opinions on this.

how does my team look and what do you think of these transfer plans?

    foster, begovic
    baines, rangel, jenkinson, demel, clyne
    hazard, cazorla, yaya, michu, sterling
    rvp, tevez, graham

i'm going to keep jenkinson until sagna is back, in which i will do jenkinson+rangel -> sagna+clark leaving me with 0 in the bank

I have just thought of an alternative wildcard strategy

If we can agree that baines is really a midfielder in disguise (and great fixtures then

How about having Guthrie 4.4 and Pog 4.9 and most weeks playing neither but going four at the back . There the added bonus that sometime soon reading will have a double fixture By going this route i can also afford to upgrade a keeper and or defenders

Trigger I floated this theory last season, however was quickly responded to with I don't understand. And basically peole thought if u r considering Baines a midfielder you should still only play 3 at the back and capitalize on this fact, hence still playing a 3-4-3, 3-5-2, as in general midfielders & forwards score more then defenders giving u essentially a 2-5-3 or 2-6-2. Hope that makes sense.

    Mign (Fed)
Cole Zab Williams (Cuellar Mc Cartney)
    Kagawa Dyer Guthry Yaya (Noble)
    Bent RvP Tevez

Got 1 transfer n 2.3 in the bank. I feel my midfield is but short so 1 possibility is Kagawa> Hazard. Most other options include taking a hit n taking out Bent too in order to get some extra money in.

My final idea is to leave it and save for a double (even triple) transfer next week. See what Kag does and Bent before taking them out.

Any other/better/new ideas. Would be much appreciated:D

I like Ridgewells fixtures and WBA's form, but I understand that Ridge may move to CB if there new lads gets a start and thaat might affect his attacking potential.

Not so keen on Chelsea fixtures however Ivanovic seems to be scoring for fun. However I hear his place might be under threat?

Problem with not having van persie is the captaincy.

If there were no captains in this game i wouldnt get him. But if you dont who you going to risk the armband on?

I know this is the main argument. Along with the fact that its too much of a risk to go without because EVERYONE has him. But I can captain tevez, torres or carzola at home against average teams pretty much every week, and i'd be happy with that. Rather than captaining RVP home and away regardless of the fixture.

Trust me pal, you dont wanna be missing out on RVP, He's scored 52 goals in his last 58 prem games & now Rooney is out for a while, The only reason why RVP shouldnt be in anyone's team is only if the fella is injured, else we all gonna regret for not having him

WOW!! That's pretty consistent. Good going.

I just feel that RVP was essential because he was under priced. This season he is at best priced correctly (after factoring in the captain element), if not overpriced, so I don't see how he is essential.

I might still bottle it, and get him because EVERYONE has. But I really think if you manage your no RVP properly, you could be onto a winner

Ben Arfa. Toure is decent, but if you own him, you depend on Mancini switching him to an attacking role during each game (starts as DM). You could easily be stuck with the passing, tackling Toure instead.

Thats true, The DM role that Yaya plays is the only thing that keeps me thinking about transferring him out for Arfa, Now that said, does the arrival of Barry give license for Yaya to push forward?

If i had Yaya from the beginning, then i would definitely keep him, but the trouble is, the likes of Nasri, Silva & the arrival of Aguero would mean that Yaya would be a DM again, He sure has got a great run of points for the first 3 GW's, Can he keep up tho?

    RMTP (Rate My Transfer Plan)

    Vorm, Federici

    Ivanovic, Zabaleta, Hangeland, Demel, Clyne

    Bale, Cazorla, Yaya, Michu, Dyer

    Torres, Tevez, Petric

    0.8 in bank

    The plan would be:
    GW5: Zabaleta to Ridgewell/Olsson/Saylor/Boyce
GW6: Ivanovic to Baines (due to rotation risk and fixture swing, and hopefull Baines' still affordable)

I'm pretty convinced on the second transfer, but unsure about the first, and reluctant to spend so much transfers on defence.

Any issues more pressing in my team? Save the GW5 transfer to cope with Baines' price rise (more flexibility)?
    Other ideas/thoughts/comments?

Clarke has pretty much said Popov will have to wait to prove himself. Ollson is probably the safest of the back four and has an attacking history, but I'd go for Ridgwell.
