The Rate My Team Tool (RMT) for members, rolled out on January 1, has been updated with some recent UI improvements, browser compatibility fixes and now also reflects the latest transfer moves and double Gameweeks.

Following yesterday’s FA Cup victory for Chelsea, we’ve added their additional fixture with Southampton to give both teams a double Gameweek and this is now shown in RMT for the players involved. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba and Joe Cole have also been moved to their new clubs so you can start building them into your RMT lineups to see how they are predicted to fare in the coming weeks. We will be updating RMT throughout the week as more team news comes in and the FPL update their squads with new player arrivals and players have their departure to the African Cup of Nations confirmed. I’ll keep members posted on the major updates each week.

In terms of fixes and improvements, following feedback from those using the tool early on, we’ve changed the method of removing players in order to make the took compatible with mobile devices. There have also been fixes for Internet Explorer and Chrome users.

There are still some bugs remaining in the “My Team” section when building a team from scratch. We’re looking to eliminate those, although we do plan to re-write the UI code for next season, so we’re aware that, with the comments system development our focus, some improvements may be shelved until the summer.

Nevertheless, RMT is up and running and providing our members with a new method of testing their theories, future transfers and team selection. During these Winter Wildcard times, it’s hopefully providing a useful new guide.

If you’re not a member and would like some more information on Rate My Team and how it can help you, view our two part previews, with part one here, and part two via this link. Half-Season memberships remain available for £10 with full information on the benefits, in addition to RMT, available via this page.

One query that has been raised which, perhaps requires further explanation, is based on the My Team view which recommends players in your squad that should be benched as subs in each Gameweek. Some users have noticed that RMT sometimes recommends players to be benched, even though they are predicted to score more heavily than a player in your lineup.

This is because RMT uses a probability of a player playing in a given Gameweek to calculate the average score shown in the table. However, behind the scenes, RMT also looks at a player’s likely score assuming that the player takes part in the match – e.g: it ignores the possibility that the player plays zero minutes. On occasions when this value is greater, it overrides the displayed average points when it comes to recommending your starting XI. As an example, if Robin Van Persie was a major doubt for Gameweek 22, RMT could still recommend playing him above another striker in your squad, even though the value shown to the user in the RMT table might be lower. As we know, you would often play Van Persie in this scenario and let the auto-subs take care of the rest: this tactic is reflected as a feature in the tool.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Injuries/doubts affecting Clyne, O'brien, Cuellar, Gorkss are pushing me to triggert the WC

Any thoughts about this team? Using every dime of the 107.5 selling value

    Turnbull* Bego
    Gibbs* Shaw* Demel* Davies Baines
    Mata* Fell Walcott* Bale Guthrie
RVP Suarez Ba* (becomes Pod* next week)

0 left in the bank. In total, combining 8 DGW-ers, big guns and players (eve) with fixtures

    Thanks in advance

Well Baines definitely has the most upside by far but if you fancy Everton's fixtures (and they are great) for clean sheets then you'd be saving 2.2m (I think) on getting Distin...that's a lot of extra money to spend on what might be similar points. Just a suggestion.

I'd rather not have Baines.......He's been on a Barren spell for the whole season. One free kick last game doesnt change my opinion on him. Also really not a fan of Guthrie, I've seen his price and know he's there for your bench, but I used my bench player a lot so far. You cant stretch to Punch?

In choosing when to play the WC the number of days you get for price changes is worth looking at (all the more so once people realize they have a WC available and play it!).

If you play your WC for GW23 you get 7 days, for GW24 10 days, and for GW25 4 days. So GW24 offers the longest time for price changes and of course is immediately after both DGWs, allowing you to clean up your team if you've destroyed it.

The cost is that you miss out being able to WC after the transfer window closes.

I was initially looking at GW25, but depending on how the transfers (both in-game and real life) are looking in GW24, I might lean towards that.

Nothing like a tricky decision taken out of our hands....

Then it would become a short-term v long-term dilemma as those rotated in could well be sitting on the bench thereafter.

If it wasn't for the 10 days v 4 days to sort out your WC, I think I'd wait the extra week.

Also, both Manchester teams have good fixtures in GW24, as well as Everton, and I did plan to get more cover for all 3 of those teams in the WC.

that's a very interesting post but I don't agree with you

most weeks are likely to see roughly the same number of transfers unless a lot of people are wildcarding so I think that the number of days doesn't increase transfer activity very much

but years ago I remember Akers saying that it was best to WC on a Saturday when there were midweek league games...this is because you get another load of transfers in the second gameweek when people are still remembering Saturday's goalscorers...I think this makes sense

it all depends what happens in a particular gameweek

After xmas its not so much about the money anymore , its about using the money you have already built up to forge ahead. Its all about points from here on in
There not that many exciting fixtures after the doubles , nothing that really needs clearing up

All that could really help the late wildcarders is posponements and bad weather

Trying to make sense of that, you mean the next GW starts midweek, and you WC in Saturday's goalscorers in the previous GW? So people bring them in for the midweek GW? Yeah very shrewd observation.

Actually, on the topic of transfer behaviour, looking again at WCing for GW24 I see it's quite nicely set up for increased transfers relative to most gameweeks (in response to your point).

Since the previous GW is DGW23, they are playing on 4 separate days as opposed to the usual 2 or 3, so the transfers might keep flowing.

        Same applies to DGW22.

Memories of catching his hattrick against Norwich this year and the fact he scored a hattrick against them last year make it extremely difficult to sell him. Plus, fixtures still coming thick and fast yet he's guaranteed starts, which is an advantage over many expensive strikers.

I will simply have to monitor how him and Sturridge get on. Rodgers did say Sturridge would be eased in due to fitness.

    Begovic, Jaas
    Luiz, Rafael, Demel, Cuellar, Davis
    Sterling, Snograss, Cazorla, Walcott, Michu
    RVP, Suarez, Berba

    B) Just do Snodgrass -> Mata & Berba -> Ruiz (-4)?

Long term, probably yes, but for the next 4 fixtures I'm happy to double up on EVE.

        Baines (SWA, sot, WBA, AVL)
        Michu (eve, STO, sun, whu)

Also, delving into the stats one would expect Michu to regress and Baines the opposite going forwards)

The team I posted would be the WC team to go long term. I'm already on a hit going into GW22 with Zaba (pre DGW confirmation). I've got Mata, Ba, Punch, Sagna, Walcott, O'brien for the DDGWs coverage, I think it might be enough. I was asking if the proposed team would be suitable going long term.

Totally agree with you but at least you get more ARS coverage (with attacking potential) for the next DGW while not getting rid of Suarez. Other options would be Caz (bit overkill with Walcott) or Podolsky but would involve no Suarez, always a risk.

    Provisional Team:

    Bego, TURNBULL
R Martin, Davies, Demel, XXX, XXX
    Mata, Bale, Walcott, Fellaini, XXX
    RVP, Lambert, Ba

    A) Baines + Cuellar + Noble

    B) Gibbs + Mariappa +Michu

    C) Gibbs + Punch + Cuellar + 2.2 (allowing me to do Ba > Suarez next week)

Maybe. But Gibbs seems to offer a lot more attacking-wise and Sagna may be rotated with Jenks?

Also, unsure whether to keep or ditch berba for lambert.

I posted above, do you have transfer plans for that provisional WC team?

What are people looking at as a cheap keeper rotation from here on in?

Trying to cash in on the Jaask/Bego combo
