The Rate My Team Tool (RMT) for members, rolled out on January 1, has been updated with some recent UI improvements, browser compatibility fixes and now also reflects the latest transfer moves and double Gameweeks.

Following yesterday’s FA Cup victory for Chelsea, we’ve added their additional fixture with Southampton to give both teams a double Gameweek and this is now shown in RMT for the players involved. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba and Joe Cole have also been moved to their new clubs so you can start building them into your RMT lineups to see how they are predicted to fare in the coming weeks. We will be updating RMT throughout the week as more team news comes in and the FPL update their squads with new player arrivals and players have their departure to the African Cup of Nations confirmed. I’ll keep members posted on the major updates each week.

In terms of fixes and improvements, following feedback from those using the tool early on, we’ve changed the method of removing players in order to make the took compatible with mobile devices. There have also been fixes for Internet Explorer and Chrome users.

There are still some bugs remaining in the “My Team” section when building a team from scratch. We’re looking to eliminate those, although we do plan to re-write the UI code for next season, so we’re aware that, with the comments system development our focus, some improvements may be shelved until the summer.

Nevertheless, RMT is up and running and providing our members with a new method of testing their theories, future transfers and team selection. During these Winter Wildcard times, it’s hopefully providing a useful new guide.

If you’re not a member and would like some more information on Rate My Team and how it can help you, view our two part previews, with part one here, and part two via this link. Half-Season memberships remain available for £10 with full information on the benefits, in addition to RMT, available via this page.

One query that has been raised which, perhaps requires further explanation, is based on the My Team view which recommends players in your squad that should be benched as subs in each Gameweek. Some users have noticed that RMT sometimes recommends players to be benched, even though they are predicted to score more heavily than a player in your lineup.

This is because RMT uses a probability of a player playing in a given Gameweek to calculate the average score shown in the table. However, behind the scenes, RMT also looks at a player’s likely score assuming that the player takes part in the match – e.g: it ignores the possibility that the player plays zero minutes. On occasions when this value is greater, it overrides the displayed average points when it comes to recommending your starting XI. As an example, if Robin Van Persie was a major doubt for Gameweek 22, RMT could still recommend playing him above another striker in your squad, even though the value shown to the user in the RMT table might be lower. As we know, you would often play Van Persie in this scenario and let the auto-subs take care of the rest: this tactic is reflected as a feature in the tool.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On my WC, how's this look to you?
    Bego T'bull
    Gibbs Collins Demel Clyne Distin
    Bale Mata Walcott Michu Puncheon
    RVP Ba Berba

Gone with gut feeling on this; firstly that WHU will do defensively and that Everton are due some improvement defensively. Any obvious flaws you can see?

Not sure Collins will score like he did against Man U again and would prefer O'Brian over him if he's fit. Otherwise looks pretty solid.

Finally decided not to use my WC (could blow up in my face so badly lol)

    Begovic (mannone)
    rafael hughes cueller (demel davies)
    michu fellaini bale walcott (sterling)
    rvp suarez berbs

since i have no chel players...here are my options:
    A: cueller + suarez >> luiz + ba (-4)
    B: fellaini + suarez >> mata + ba (-4)
    C: sterling + suarez >> mata + lambert (-4)
    D: fellaini + berb >> hazard + lambert (-4)
    E: rafael + sterling + suarez >> luiz + hazard + lambert (-8)

Sooo confused...leaning towards A or E...the only problem with E would be who to bench.

Definitely Enrique to a Chelsea def... probably Ivanovic although he could be due a rest... Suarez could do well against Man U defense but think it'll be more fun having Ba in your team in case he plays 120mins+ and explodes...

it will be more fun! which is why i'm so tempted. this game has ceased being fun for me the last few weeks. although it would just be torture if Suarez bags 2 against a dodgy United defence and Ba plays only 1 game against Stoke and does bugger all...

Let's talk about Berb v Lambert.

Most posters seem to think it's better to keep Berb. I am inclined that way because I would really like to come out the other end of these DGWs with Berb in my team. But consider this:

Lambert is in good form right now; he has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last three matches. Also, he put two past Villa last time they played this season. Now he has a DGW starting with Villa and following with Chelsea (and Lambert has scored against big teams this season, although not in a while).

Berb, meanwhile, is at home to Wigan. He has 2 goals and 1 assist in his last three, preceeded by a string of 2s.

So why is it not a good idea to bring in Lambert for the DGW? I am really interested in your thoughts.

Yeah, I see your point, but it doesn't change things unless you are focused on the "string of 2s". the point is that Lambert has been every bit as effective in the last three weeks as Berb since Ruiz has returned, and Lambert has 2 matches including Villa. I just want to know if people think this is a coin-toss or if there are really strong reasons for sticking with Berb,

Hi EJ - I have Berba, Suarez, Rvp and I suppose even after wc that's where I'm at - unless team value allows me Ba ( I know risky ) in - basically I don't want to take a hit at the moment for Lambert but something also tells me there might not be much points difference between both at the end of year and 1m ish in the bank.

Hey--I think my question only makes sense if you are on the WC right now. I definitely prefer Berb to Lambert long term, but just trying to see if there are good reasons for thinking he will score more during the DGW. If not, then I have a real problem: is the Lambert gamble worth needing to use a transfer to get Berb back in? In your position I would stick with Berb.

If I was wc now - it looks a no brainer , but as you say I think you need a viable exit strategy,
If you were to keep tho he might allow someone like Baines into your team whom I feel is on the up.

I'm one of the unfortunates that owned Berba for all the 2's only to sell him right before his renaissance. I'm going to go Lambert as a gamble and like you said he's done a great job thus far (quite consistent)

This site is clearly pro-Berbatov but I don't think any player has ever been defended so fervently as Berbatov despite terribly poor form. People will tell you to get Berbatov over Lambert 9/10 on this site and that's a fact. Whether it's based on anything other than excessive fandom I'm not sure.

Jelavic could be a great differential..almost went for him vs Wigan (H)
Cheers...given Dzekos form at the moment compared to Tevez, and the fact Mancini doesnt like Tevez, Id be confident in him being first choice until he messes up with Aguero there anyway. Mancini normally leaps at an opportunity to not have to play Tevez.

Leftfield long-term Ba idea - apply the Kolarov solution. Ba will clearly play *some* league games. And when he does, he's likely to do well. So as long as your bench is good enough, he's ownable.

I can just about manage owning Ba with Snodgrass as 5th mid.

The risk, of course, is 20 minute cameos. Are they very likely? I know it's too early to say anything but we're only half way through the EPL break and I'm bored.

Ros, sounds like you really want him in your team mate! 😉

I agree with you, but I reckon 20min cameos are VERY likely. Especially if Torres is having one of his sulking episodes on the pitch when things aren't going well. Plus Ba is more like Drogba in terms of how he plays etc. My point here is that a lot of that Chelsea squad are used to someone who can hold the ball up. If they are chasing a lead or a draw and Torres is playing like dirt, I can see Ba coming on and having a good potential of involvment in any goals from then to the final whistle.

Haha! I've actually been very anti-Ba but I've come round to seeing that he's going to be scoring a lot of goals for Chelsea.

I don't want to do my usual thing of missing out because I go for more expensive options instead.

Yeah, I've got a lot invested in Suarez so I want to see if he and Sturridge hit it off. Could be extremely profitable.

And of the much-touted "terrible fixtures" people talk about, only City away looks bad for Suarez goals.

I like your idea in theory. Keeping Ba is something I would love to do as a) he is one of my favourite strikers and b) he's now upgraded to a better team and still scores when he wants. The potential is frightening and I'm glad we have this DGW to think it all through as I'd hate to just rashly sell him knowing he is such a great source of points.

Please Torres, I don't mean no harm...but please go on holiday for a while, thanks.

For those looking for different rotation at the back, Everton Norwich is a good one for GW25 WC teams.

AVL, FUL, EVE, RDG, SOT, MCY, STK, SWA, QPR, RDG, FUL, AVL, WHM, che.

    Distin, Martin for 9.4 mil

Maybe. We should know by GW25 what the back line looks like with Whittaker back

Not looked at that one. Not bad considering you can get it with Davies

Won't be looking at Norwich defense until ruddy is back at end of March I think. He makes all the difference for them.

I'm so reluctant to get rid of Baines at this stage as the next 4 look so promising so he could kick off big time. But it's leading to problems getting in the likes of Azpi+Sagna, or Walcott/Berbatov.

    Currently got Baines+Azpi and Fellaini/Ruiz.

15,000 fools played their wildcard last week. I'm guessing they thought it was the Jan WC 😆

Dead teams woke up or new teams going for the weekly high score.

New teams wouldn't count as wildcards would they?

No, I meant new teams from GW20. They would get the hat-trick of WCs this week.

Ah yes. Would there really be 15,000 people doing that though?

    Turnbull (bunn)
    Gibbs. Shaw, demel (Sagna, o'brien)
    Mata(c) michu. Ramirez. Bale. (Walcott)
    Lambert. Ba. Rvp.

Transferring Rameriz for Nolan. any thoughts. Too much?
