The Rate My Team Tool (RMT) for members, rolled out on January 1, has been updated with some recent UI improvements, browser compatibility fixes and now also reflects the latest transfer moves and double Gameweeks.

Following yesterday’s FA Cup victory for Chelsea, we’ve added their additional fixture with Southampton to give both teams a double Gameweek and this is now shown in RMT for the players involved. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba and Joe Cole have also been moved to their new clubs so you can start building them into your RMT lineups to see how they are predicted to fare in the coming weeks. We will be updating RMT throughout the week as more team news comes in and the FPL update their squads with new player arrivals and players have their departure to the African Cup of Nations confirmed. I’ll keep members posted on the major updates each week.

In terms of fixes and improvements, following feedback from those using the tool early on, we’ve changed the method of removing players in order to make the took compatible with mobile devices. There have also been fixes for Internet Explorer and Chrome users.

There are still some bugs remaining in the “My Team” section when building a team from scratch. We’re looking to eliminate those, although we do plan to re-write the UI code for next season, so we’re aware that, with the comments system development our focus, some improvements may be shelved until the summer.

Nevertheless, RMT is up and running and providing our members with a new method of testing their theories, future transfers and team selection. During these Winter Wildcard times, it’s hopefully providing a useful new guide.

If you’re not a member and would like some more information on Rate My Team and how it can help you, view our two part previews, with part one here, and part two via this link. Half-Season memberships remain available for £10 with full information on the benefits, in addition to RMT, available via this page.

One query that has been raised which, perhaps requires further explanation, is based on the My Team view which recommends players in your squad that should be benched as subs in each Gameweek. Some users have noticed that RMT sometimes recommends players to be benched, even though they are predicted to score more heavily than a player in your lineup.

This is because RMT uses a probability of a player playing in a given Gameweek to calculate the average score shown in the table. However, behind the scenes, RMT also looks at a player’s likely score assuming that the player takes part in the match – e.g: it ignores the possibility that the player plays zero minutes. On occasions when this value is greater, it overrides the displayed average points when it comes to recommending your starting XI. As an example, if Robin Van Persie was a major doubt for Gameweek 22, RMT could still recommend playing him above another striker in your squad, even though the value shown to the user in the RMT table might be lower. As we know, you would often play Van Persie in this scenario and let the auto-subs take care of the rest: this tactic is reflected as a feature in the tool.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Was thinking of doing Aguero > Lambert but I'm having doubts.

It'd be mainly the Villa game you would hope he'd do well in.

But there are probably other strikers capable of matching his score despite the DGW.

    Names I'm looking at:

    Berbatov
    Benteke
    Fletcher
    Defoe
    Jelavic
    Papiss

Any help at narrowing it down? Or thoughts on whether I should go Lambert?

    Thanks

If I get Lambert it allows me to do Pienaar > Walcott next week for the DGW. That's why I'm swaying towards him or Benteke.

That's why I included Jelavic. But the added bonus of getting a cheaper striker is I can grab Walcott for the next DGW. I would need to go sub 7.3m to achieve this.

So I think realistically Benteke, Berbatov, Fletcher and Lambert are the best picks. Which would you go for?

What's the other transfer you'd be making in scenario A to make it a hit? (Because in a way a -4pt hit is -2pts from the first transfer, and -2 from the 2nd. That's the way I look at it anyway...)

Hmmmmmm. Baring in mind the double you make the -4pt hit up purely on minutes (providing Giroud gets the minutes!). You might also end up captaining one of them I presume. It all adds up to it being more than worth the money IMO. TO have berbs v wig

Ooops - lost on previous page.

    Current squad:

    Begovic - Foster
    Clyne - Vertonghen - Demel - Nelsen - Gibbs
    Walcott - Puncheon - Michu - Pienaar - Bale
    RVP - Suarez - Berbs

    1 FT: £1.5m in bank

Any opinions on these potential moves?

    A: Berbs > Ruiz & Pienaar > Mata (-4)?
    B: Suarez > Ba & Pienaar > Mata (-4)?
C: Vert > Luiz & Suarez > Ba (no Mata)?

So I've done a complete u-turn and decided I should probably wildcard this week and have lots of DGW players! I know people hate doing this but I could really use some help or at least confirmation that I'm not mad.

    Jaask - Begovic
    Azp - Wilkinson - Gibbs - Demel - Davies
    Michu - Mata - Puncheon - Walcott - Hazard
    Suarez - Tevez - Lambert

3.8m left in the bank to either upgrade Lambert or try to get RVP in for Suarez after all the DGW nonsense. Any opinions?

If I wildcarded for GW25 the midfield would look like Bale, Walcott, Michu, Fellaini, Puncheon. If I wildcard this GW then replace Walcott with Mata or Hazard to cover Chelsea and straight back to Walcott next week.

If everyone thinks that Torres is 100% the main striker and Rafa won't let a striker play twice in a few days gap,

would that not mean that Torres is less likely to play against Southampton as it is Arsenal a few days later?

Repost. Just done a bit of tinkering with my WC team, I hit it before the DGW was announced…

I am just questioning if I have too much DGW (caps) in the long run?

    Begovic TURNBULL
    Davies Zaba AZPI DEMEL SHAW
    Bale MATA WALCOTT NOBLE Michu
    Rvp Suarez LAMBERT

I will do Azpi—>5.1M defender after first DGW (perhaps Sagna) as this will enable me to have a .3 cushion to do Lambert + Noble —>Fellaini + Pog after the second DGW. When I have a spare transfer Bunn comes in for Turnbull

            ...No offense taken...

As far as I'm concerned it's no different to asking many people their opinion and you deciding whether you place a value on that opinion and as a result you deciding if you want to act differently based on that opinion.

By fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion and your are entitled to say what you think.

Just seems a bit clinical to me, that's all. If I post an RMT, it's to talk through the options, not just to get an actual rating, if you see what I mean.

Like you say, though, people can choose to use it, but I think it leads to less diversity between teams.

I think though it boils down to what type of person you are. Lots of people would rather hear that Fellaini is expected to get 5.2 points more than Yaya Toure in the next 4 weeks, then hearing someone else just tell them, 'yes, sell yaya buy fellaini'. It's all about information; the numerical approach, if you are comfortable with it, carries alot more information than the standard RMT post replies. Surely, a more thorough analysis is better? The numbers are still based on the opinions of Mark and the betting market, so it's no crystal ball, coming to ruin the game!

I had a league set up with people who used ratemyteam last year and there was just as big diversity in their teams as any other league. People always like to have their own opinion on things and people always play their tactics differently. Also, there is no 'right' team that ratemyteam suggests and once people pick different teams the variance gets larger and larger.
