While I’ve been providing some informal updates on HomeCrowd (our new comments system), I thought it was about time I provided an official update on developments.

We’ve been testing the new comments system behind the scene for a couple of weeks, using it to discuss Scout Picks and other site matters. With a few more tweaks to come, this weekend we should be at the point to allow a number of community members to get access and help us move that testing on.

Ed is worked today on adding inline admin tools (to allow the moderation of comments in the list view rather than via the admin panel) and completed the recent comments widget to mirror the current version. Once these are in place, we’ll be looking for a small group of community members to help offer their assistance.

Testers will see a very similar look and feel to the present system, which is intentional of course, with the notable addition of comment voting, stickies and fixed elements like email notification of replies to comments.

For testing purposes, we will be displaying the comment rating and discussion rating that votes creates – in basic terms, the reputation of a user is added to the comment rating when a vote is cast (or subtracted if it’s a downvote). Discussion ratings are the sum of the comment rating and its replies. We’ll be hiding both numbers when we go live, although we may represent comment rating graphically and users will be able to sort comments by discussion rating in order to view the very best discussions for a given article.

There are new features to be added after this phase of testing, notable profile pages for recalling user comments and replies, the follow function to allow you to filter threads for comments made by your favourite posters and the full sticky comment feature that will list recent stickied comments as “Hot Topics” in the sidebar for easy retrieval alongside the recent comments widget.

These are all features that will be applied and tested in the coming weeks, by which time we will have hopefully got the basics of the system tested and ready for rollout to the live site – with your help.

I’ll be posting details of how you can volunteer to help test HomeCrowd on Friday, in time to let some users loose on the test servers at some point this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Christ - imagine the rating system take affect during the ICC!!

Banter this last few days...ratings be so low i'd be relegated to posting via a Spectrum ZX (those in 30s will understand).

from nasty posters within the ICC area?

I did see a few yday which may have been meant to be "banter" but stepped over the line - it has seemingly been much more light hearted today?

The David Silva of the 2011/2012 season will be back next season in my opinion because he will actually get a few months off in the summer this season instead of going to a major tournament.

ICC fans are on the ICC thread, not here. ICC has got its own entire thread which I reckon is ample enough, There is no need to pollute this thread and fish for more attention here. Its really unfair on regular lurkers like me who dont give a toss about the ICC. There's even more ICC discussion two posts above yours. ugh..

Do you expect me to post my opinion on every single comment about the damn ICC? I saw yours and I commented just like I might have on any other post about the ICC. So it's irrelevant if you had posted 3 words or even 1. Every post just adds to the total number of annoying ICC posts.
Do you see us post endless RMT's or nonICC stuff on your thread? No. So why not give back some of the respect we give you.

No offence Mr. Lurker but I think you might need to stop and reassess whether your reaction and the insults is warranted here?

            In answer to your questions...
            - No, I don't expect you to post your opinion on every comment about the ICC.
            - Why not give back the respect you gave me? I'm not sure you have really shown me any respect. Even your initial response was disrespectful in its tone (polluting the thread, fishing for attention) if not in its content.

I gave a very brief link here as I figured it's extremely quiet and even those without direct interest in the ICC might find my effort mildly amusing. I hold my hands up, I was wrong to do that but your reaction is OTT. Relax.

If my first post was "Oh please dont post ICC stuff here." It would have gone ignored just liked the tens of other posts by others. So my only intention was to have a good go at making that very point myself. But now that I think about it, I wanted impact but not insult. So yes my first post sounded quite rude which I admit and I am sorry for that. As far as my second post goes, I reckon it was fully warranted considering the response I received.
Anyway, this is the internet, and this isn't going anywhere further. Thanks (honestly) for considering my opinion and I hope we have come to a conclusion. I have nothing personal against you. Thank you, and good luck with rapping 🙂 Good night.

This season I've waited until the last minute to transfer and have only a mediocre team value to show for it so next season I'm going to start transferring early up until the Jan wildcard so I can have approx 2-3m more to spend which should mean a better overall rank.

This. Transfer early first half to build squad value, then you can afford to consider your moves later. Pretty much what I've done this season.

I tend to go late, I think I've made one early transfer all season and still have a perfectly decent team value. I don't think there's anything wrong in principle with early transfers as long as you're sure and you're prepared to come a cropper once or twice over the course of the season.

Mixture of both, sometimes transfers are really obvious so do it early, threat of injury is exaggerated, how often does it really happen to the player you chose. But if you are jumping back and forward between decisions I think best to wait.
Though there is a lot to be said for building up cash early season via early transfers

I've seen a lot worse. Giroud is punty and might not do much but conversely could explode, Wenger seems to love playing him.

There are plenty of arguments favouring one over the other but I'd go Giroud. Berbatov the better player, playing for a team but they're mid-table. Giroud more fixtures in the next 3 and there has to be Arsenal goals in those.

Evening. Am looking to load up for the run-in and am actually thinking that if I want to take a hit/hits the sooner the better so I have more time to make back the points/play with the extra money? Is this at all sound thinking or a massive rationalization because I used my WC in September?

Hmmm, what I'd do for a WC right now 🙂

Well you're making sense and that's something I hadn't thought about too much. Maybe tweaking your side early on with hits is the best idea.

But then there is uncertainty about who has DGWs and who has fixtures in which GW etc etc.

For me I think I'm just going to take each GW as it comes and be prepared to take multiple hits for those DGWs...which goes against my style all season but there might be sense in doing it this time round with a lot at stake.

The main thing with the DGWs though is the potential for INSTANT gains from hits. While it might be sensible to load up on future DGWers right now, you could also argue that some of the elite attackers from teams like Arsenal/Man Utd/Chelsea would be worth a 4 point hit in a DGW situation.

An example this week though is the interest in Cazorla. A player who not only has a good immediate fixture but also the DGW to come. So it looks like a sound investment that will hopefully pay off and you don't have to worry about him once he's in. So that looks like a decent long term transfer and might even be worth a hit this week itself...if you consider he may instantly return against Reading AND give you excellent DGW coverage.

Anyway...hope I've sort of answered your question...sorry for rambling 😀

Thanks for the response -- agree with much of what you said. In principle, I don't like taking hits for punts, except elite dgw ones, but if I want new keeper or budget defender with a dgw in his future, am considering just bringing him in now and hoping that he pays off over time.

The other move/hit that I would have looked at as absurd even a few short weeks ago is RVP out for Rooney in. I think they will probably be close to even from here on in, but the extra cash spent on an elite defender (esp one with a dgw) might actually be worth the hit now so I can earn the extra points.

Cazorla will be my 2nd FT unless injury beckons -- he becomes Silva quite nicely in the mid 30s after his dgw.

Thanks. Certainly not looking for that! More so, I am just trying to work out the value in a sideways move/hit. With plenty of season in front of me, I hate them, but with less time to get return on investment, the unthinkable deserves consideration. Might actually spend this offweek counting my likely hits and just figuring out when I'd take them.

The Rooney move gives you that extra room to manoeuvre. This is something I took into account when getting him in last week. It allows me to have an extra expensive heavy hitter in midfield. For instance I can do Michu > Caz now whereas if I'd got RVP that move would have been impossible.

    So no "lurkers" badge/medal then?

The only comment I have is regarding the idea of being able to sort comments by rating. This might be useful for those just wishing to read the comments, but if someone sorts this way and then comments, it may be difficult for a converstion to follow if others are using a different (default?) sort order.

Just my 2 cents worth 🙂

Hey TM, you know I love your game but I think any sort of complexity or increase in scope will take away from the fun...I personally won't be around on Friday so it probably doesn't matter what I think, but I know that I enjoy picking cheap players that would otherwise never be on my FPL team and see what happens. Good luck anyway.

P.S. What college team in the US do you support?

Got sidetracked, but thanks guys. Will not be a big increase in volume or complexity -- I will simply slot the gw33 picks into a bracket and let them play themselves out over the course of the season. None of the drafters have to do extra work -- I don't want much either.

Hey TW. We can keep the usual weekly picks going but agree, would be happy to find out interest and alert regular posters in advance of gw 33. Was thinking of just doing the bracket draft on that Friday, but can be flexible if we want to choose earlier.

For the tourney, your players would be put into the bracket itself:
--16 drafters with usual teams of 5/30M
--Top 64 players ranked by FPL pts and seeded accordingly in each bracket
--None of the 16 drafters have 2 players in same region
--Each gw, player with more FPL pts advances to next round/GW -- Sweet Sixteen, Final Four, etc.
                --GW38 would be the championship
--If your player doesn't play, you have 1 autosub
--Biggest issue is how to break a tie -- was thinking higher seed advances.

Might read very confusing but it makes sense in my head. Thanks for reading.

No new players picked -- if your guy wins he moves on to the next round. So your draft picks are focused on the long haul as well.

Who strategy would you employ with this front 8:

    Kagawa, Bale, Walcott, Sissoko, Mata

    Suaz, RVP, Lambchop.

Got no idea what's happening with the dgws.

Will certainly need an EVE mid at some point but may as well wait for Fellaini's price to drop first.

Is there any point getting Rooney when I have The Man?

downgrade an attacker and upgrade in defense ;).

think you'll want caz for the dgw in gw 33. and the good thing about him is you can then shift him to hazard and silva for their dgw's (whenever they end up being).

you'll have to decide if you want any everton dgw coverage (fellaini, pienaar, osman, jelly, and/or anichebe) or not.

think you should plan for the gw 33 dgw first and then adjust for the later dgw's (especially considering we still don't know about some of them)

          no problem Jafa.

:D. was only joking cuz I know how much you love big defenders ;).

          you going with afro?

tbh I think i'd rather get caz than afro (or other everton coverage) if I had to chose. might also opt for a cheeky punt on giroud but not sure about that one.

jenks and fabianski could fit in perfectly in your defense and be good dgw prospects if it seems they'll be nailed on

Caz doesn't make too much appeal in FPL (he's the exact oppo in Metro) and Fell is cheap.

Jenks-do Arse keep enough cleenies to make it worthwhile?

I think he's worth it for their next couple fixtures + dgw. would try to get both if you can. maybe lose mata + kagawa?

not sure. but he's dirt cheap and has a dgw.

he plays for arsenal. has started the last two (including the crucial CL second leg vs bayern) and kept cleanies both games and has apparently played quite well

I did Fellaini to Lampard last GW, should have done Michu, oh well, Michu to Walcott for me this week

Lampard for his price, penos and league minutes will do for me and if Chelsea end up with a blank in GW 33 I can make him into many Eve options

unless you decide you'd rather have hazard and/or lamps over mata, then it could be a good idea to ship him as you'd avoide rafatation this next gw with the replay just a couple days later.

do you think kags will be nailed on? if not, he's the easiest to lose for a dgw mid from eve or ars

i'll probably keep mata myself (though am starting to convince myself to lose him). cost is part of it, also i'm fearful that he'll come on for a 1pt 15 min cameo this next gw with the cup replay so close afterwards. and i wonder if hazard and/or lamps could be better dgw options. especially hazard who has done well recently while mata has gone off the boil a bit.
