With cheque books fluttering on the eve of the transfer window slamming shut, our Fantasy seasons could be transformed by some notable new arrivals. In this week’s ScoutCast episode, Granville and I chew over the latest fresh faces to crash the player list – United’s “Angel” Di Maria and Liverpool’s “Devil” Balotelli.

With just a single point between us and the comfort of top 100k placings, my co-host and I are more than just a little content as we the rule over the current bandwagons and preview another weekend’s action. It won’t last.

    Most WCs have this structure

    4.5, 4
    XXX 5, 4.5, 4, 4
    XXX, 9, 9, 8.5, 6
    12 XXX XXX

    which leaves around 29.5m for 4 positions. its safe to say, you'll choose one more budget option (5m) in one of the attacking slots (it would be madness to bench siggy every week), so that will leave approx 24.5m left for 3 players, of which 1 is a defender and 2 attacking players (which are either cheap5-6/midrange8-9/exp10.5-11.5)

    The main choice comes down to:
    1) Ivan/exp/cheap
    2) Ivan/midrange/midrange
    3) no-Ivan/exp/midrange

    Literally 90% of RMTs and questions are variations of this problem. The answer is there are no rights or wrongs, and probably any combination of the above will work.

    With option 1 there are 2 cheap attacking players in the front 8 in addition to Siggy, which is not ideal, note: JWP/Naismith actually rotate rather well.
    With option 2, you take advantage of the abundance of mids around 9m and get one of the inform strikers in ade or jov. It seems the best move right now, but could lead to more hits as 2 transfers required to draft in an expensive player later on.
    With option 3, its tempting to be honest, but no Ivan seems really unbalanced.

      It's going to be like that for long parts of the season now that big bank a/c's can't be built up. So casuals and regs alike will have similar enough templates

    What are the main options for Wildcarding?

    I started FPL last year, although I have followed football almost my whole life.

    Is it a good idea to keep it for international breaks etc?

    when should I be considering using it?

      You can use it during international breaks like GW3-4 to get price rises but to be honest this year I'm not sure it will work as well as previous. Still depends on who does well too.

      Other option is to keep it just until you really need it and your team is terrible.

      Another tactic is to save it for the double game weeks so you can either wildcard your team FOR the double, or use it to get rid of the players you don't want after the double.

      Keep it for an international break if a player like Walcott has a blinder this week.

      Then everyone will transfer him in, he'll rise by 0.2, transfer him out after he gets injured and that's 0.1 profit for you.

      But price rises are a lot less frequent this season, so may not work as well.

    My opinion on Costa is that he probably won't play this week. He has a history with a hamstring problem and Chelsea won't want to risk him for the long-term. Drogba is more than a suitable striker to fill the role for a game.

      Jovetic---Very much in-form right now IMO and I suspect he might get his first full 90min game this weekend.

      Rooney is still a solid shout. You'd have to suspect LVG is determined to start winning soon. Rooney is on some set-pieces and I have a sneaky suspicion, being captain means he's on PKs as well.

      Personally, I am going with Jovetic for now cos United look labored and their attack is just disjointed [was going to say non-existent but it felt too critical]--City however look like a kid strapping in for a roller-coaster ride. I wanna hedge my bets with the excited kid.
