Our next members article assessing the previous season takes a look at Sunderland’s campaign, with most of the focus on the impact of new manager, Dick Advocaat.

Following a 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa in March, the Dutchman replaced Gus Poyet at the helm, with his side sitting 17th in the league, just a single point clear of the relegation places. Advocaat guided the Black Cats to a 16th-place finish, after picking up three wins and three draws from their final nine matches, with their survival clinched in Gameweek 37 after a goalless draw at the Emirates. After initially turning down an offer to stay on at the Stadium of Light, the Dutchman signed a one-year deal to remain in the North East.

Should Lukaku start for my first week? Why are so many people recommending him?

I already have costa and Rooney for the first week.

2 of the goals from the hat trick were penalties. :S

He'll play loan striker, he and everton will be sharper with no Europa, no one else looks like they will score the goals for everton and I think he's on penalties. I think he's a great shout at 8.0 imo

A slight tweak to a previous question...

    a) Ruddy + Butland + Huth and Richards

    b) Schmeichel + Butland + O'Shea and Mings

    c) Ruddy + Rudd + Huth and Cedric

    d) other 18m combination for 2 keepers and 2 defenders

It's just whether having a Norwich keeper + Cedric will outscore having a rotating keeper pair and rotating cheap defenders.

        I just can't decide

Well what I have for the bracket you are talking about is:

          Kasper Hennessy (subject to transfer)

          Cedric Francis Richards.

The rest of my defence is Ivan and Shaw.

Couldn't quite do that as I am 0.5 short (one of those 4.5 def need to be a 4).

It's all about sacrificing the versatility of being able to choose both the keeper and defender with the better fixture each week or having Cedric.

No need of delay as u have Rooney upfront if u want to double up then go for Mata.
Other plan looks good ! Give time to tekkers for settling into new system u can change him and have Henderson / Milner as ur pool player insted of ritchi !

      Anyway best luck !

If Utd sign Pedro then can we start talking about them as serious title contenders for next season?

    ........Scweiny....Scneid.........
    ......Mata.....Depay.....Pedro..
    ...................Roon..............

That is some front 6 with Carrick, Afro, Herrera, Young, Januzaj to be rotated in as well. It's going to be an exciting season IMO.

Still question marks over Central DF of course but Blind looks like he can do a great job there, Smalling, Jones & Rojo are improving all the time and of course Darmian can play CB too so it's not all doom and gloom in that area of the pitch

Agreed that a team like Chelsea have a better DF but is Utd's back five THAT bad?

        .................DDG
        Darmian - Smalls - Blind - Shaw/Rojo

I think it's decent (if not amazing)

          darmian - unproven
Smalling - doesnt start for england
          Blind - shakey at best
          Shaw - overweight/unfit
          Rojo - headless chicken

          Try again:

          Terry - captain, leader, reliable
Cahill - perfect foil for terry
Zouma - arguably the best young defender in Europe
Azpi - if mourinho could have a team of 11 dave's - he would!
          Ivanovic - a Serbian machine

Swap Pedro to RW, Mata to CAM and Depay to LW and that is how they should line up if going with a 2-3-1 set up.

      Sounds tasty.

However, if Rooney gets injured, Utd won't have much cover. Still think Utd need a direct replacement for RVP/Failcao. A striker who is always a threat even if the rest of the team are under-performing.

As Van Gaal has said, Utd are lacking a game-changer like Hazard or Sanchez. Is Pedro that guy?

    Butland, Ruddy
    Azpi, Merte, Cresswell, Richards, Yoshi

I have a spare 0.5m should i use it to upgrade my 3rd striker from a 4.5m to a playing 5m such as ighalo to save me subbing a defender (if any of my top 8 dont play)or upgrade my 5th defender to a 4.5m to give me better rotation options?

    Thoughts?

Too risky to go with 2 non playing players. I would downgrade a player somewhere to get at least 14 starters.

Is a financial motivation the only consideration for a rotational pairing or are there examples of players that score way more points at home than away? I know that teams will score FF points at a greater rate at home than they will away, but have there been any players in previous seasons that dramatically exceed that ratio?

I'd be tempted to not think of it as a rotation but a choice- go with the form team's defender who are earning clean sheets rather than trying to anticipate the other defender getting a clean sheet just because the fixture is supposedly easier- it's very easy to concede a goal in 90 minutes whoever you're playing, so pick the team showing they have the metal rather than the easiest fixture I say.

First pick get a forward after that leave forwards.
Most of them get rotated too much by the end of the season and aren't worth it.

Winning your draft is about getting great and reliable last picks.

Think about people like Ki (swansea), Goalkeepers ( I had 3 last season) and really nailed on defenders (Azpi, Kosc, Lescott) . In short go for boring (people who scored more than 120 last season hopefully)

One of my favourite players (as a person) in the Prem. and one that has always had consideration, based on optimism, in previous seasons. Nowhere near my radar at this point though. That Arsenal midfield is a goldmine and a minefield at the same time as far as selections go. I'm currently with Özil as he looks the most rotation-proof candidate at the moment.
