After weeks of negotiations, Norwich finally completed the signing of Hull’s Robbie Brady for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £7 million. The Republic of Ireland international penned a three-year deal with the Canaries and joins Graham Dorrans, Youssouf Mulumbu and Andre Wisdom in making the move to Carrow Road this summer.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Brady spoke of his happiness after dropping a division with the relegated Tigers:

“The feeling of being wanted is something I’m so grateful to the manager for, and to everyone who’s been behind it. It’s another opportunity to play at the highest level, which is where everyone wants to be. I’ll relish it, and will hopefully play as many games as possible. It’s a new chapter for me at Norwich now and I’m raring to go.”

THE HISTORY

Born in Dublin, Brady was spotted by Manchester United scouts playing for local side St. Kevin’s Boys. He joined the club’s academy shortly after his 16th birthday in January 2008, and made his debut for the reserves just months later. Brady played under-18 and reserve team football for the next few seasons, before graduating to the reserves on a permanent basis for the 2010/11 campaign.

The Irishman was sent out on loan to Hull City ahead of the 2011/12 season, and went on to make 39 appearances during the campaign, registering three goals and a couple of assists. Brady returned to Old Trafford the following year but he only managed one senior appearance for United, however, coming on as a late substitute in a cup win over Newcastle in September 2012. An initial loan return to Hull was made permanent in January 2013, with Brady’s four goals and 13 assists in 32 appearances guided the Tigers from the Championship back into the top-flight.

Brady went on to star for the Tigers on their return to the Premier League, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 16 appearances, before undergoing surgery to cure a hernia problem, missing out on the club’s run to the FA Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Arsenal. Last season, Brady made 27 league appearances, registering two assists, but the Tigers two-year stay in the Premier League came to an end as they finished 18th.

Having represented the Republic of Ireland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels, Brady made his international debut in a 4-1 win against Oman in September 2012, scoring once and setting up two of the goals. Brady has since amassed 12 caps for his country, scoring three times.

THE PROSPECTS

Having featured in several different positions for both Hull and the Republic of Ireland, Brady should provide Norwich boss Alex Neil with plenty of flexibility. Speaking about his big summer signing, Neil revealed Brady would primarily feature down the left flank:

“I’m really pleased to sign Robbie. As everyone’s aware, we’ve been chasing him for quite a while, He’ll be an absolutely perfect fit for us. Hopefully he can go on and show everything that we think he’s capable of. He’s dynamic, he’s got good energy to get up and down the pitch, and he’s got a fantastic left foot which makes him a real danger at set-pieces. He’s got a lot of things in his locker. It gives us good competition down the left side.”

In terms of tactics, Neil tended to operate with a lone striker system after taking the helm last year, rolling out 4-4-1-1, 4-1-4-1 and 4-2-3-1 formations. Bradley Johnson shone on the left flank, racking up 15 goals, but with Martin Olsson likely to miss the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer, Johnson has been occasionally fielded at left-back in pre-season. Brady also has plenty of experience in the position, particularly at international level, and offers an alternative until Olsson is ready for action.

The Swede is expected back shortly, though, and his return may well see Brady oust Johnson down the left of midfield. Certainly, he possesses greater pace than Johnson and is more of a natural wide man, with his cultured left foot able to deliver great quality into the box. Alternatively, Neil could utilise him centrally in the role in “the hole” behind a lone striker.

Coming in at 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Brady sets you back the same as Johnson and Nathan Redmond, whose place looks secure on the right of midfield. Neil’s words suggest he’ll be handed a fair share of dead-ball duties, whilst Brady will be also hoping to climb up the spot-kick pecking order, having occasionally taken penalties for Hull.

The Canaries have been handed a kind start to their return to the top flight, with their first six home fixtures (CPL, STO, BOU, LEI, WBA, SWA) particularly friendly. Away trips to Sunderland and Newcastle in the opening nine Gameweeks are also reasonable match-ups, so Brady could provide Fantasy managers with a decent budget option. Given that he’s joined with just over a week until the season starts, he may need time to settle into his new surrounds before some consider taking the plunge.

Ineffective in the 10, better on the wing. Looks a good box of creative tricks but one to monitor IMO. Not as great as an option people make him out to be, as of yet.

      He's been OK pretty much.

Quiet at times but been making good runs. He's been playing centrally a lot though and I'd prefer to see him play left of front three.

Depay has flashes of brilliance but hasn't put it together yet. Playing in the hole behind pig. I could see the two of them being great together, they look for each other a lot, LVG commented even too much. Depay sent a dipping curving set shot wide of the goal, and missed another, talent is there, when it eventually connects is anybody's guess. Wooney is a little off too, should sharpen up by GW1, I hope. I have them both in my current team but based on last night seems overkill & will prolly keep just Wooney for now. Depay is gonna be a world beater someday soon though.

      He is not a #10.

      Shoot first, pass 2nd mentality

If LVG insists he will need a few weeks to adjust, but now he is talking about 4-3-3 so who knows where he will put him.

            This, mets man.

I've got Aguero, and am building around him (and Hazard). If at last minute prior to gw1, it's clearly uncertain (bit of an oxymoron there I guess) that kun will play, I'll move Aguero to Rooney. However, I don't have Rooney as one of my other 2 forwards as of now.

I will end up with 2 premium strikers whatever happens. Aguero/Costa or Aguero/Rooney. Depends on Costa's fitness and their early season form.

I'd argue that this is the best midfield United have had in years with the additions of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin adding steel to an already good midfield.

The most solid midfield defensively that Rooney has played in front of anyway.

    Quick quesiton:
Is it worth spending an extra 0.5 to have 5.0/4.5 4th and 5th defenders, considering I will be playing Azpi, Kos, and Cedric every week? or should I just downgrade Cedric?

    I really like Huth/N.Taylor rotation.

    Ruddy,Butland
    Azpil, Cedric, Huth, Francis, O'SHea
    Haz, Wally, Sterling, Mane, Fletcher
    Rooney, Pelle, Deeney

    0.5 ITB

Pelle/Mane double up too much? Could go Pelle-> Benteke or Mane->7.0 Mid and improve the defense. ALso torn between Wally and Ozil; will see how what happens sunday.

Yep, that's exactly my point. I feel Pelle will outscore Tekkers in the first few weeks, until I get Kun in. Can't see Beneteke waltzing right into a new system with many new players and bagging the points off the bat.

I'm certainly not alone in this team composition. Many ways to win. My strategy in fantasy sports is to usually have the proven "big hitters" and surround with value players. It's worked well for me.

If Mane is a better choice than Pelle, should I just swap them into 3-5-2?

Or it isnt equal due to flexibility?

    Would make it

    Myhill Henn

    Walcott Ozil Sterling Cesc Mane
    Rooney Tekker 4.5m

Yeah, the flexibility is an issue. A cheap striker bandwagon will emerge like all seasons, and with Kun having to be in there you're choices will be very Limited.

Looks very good. I have Pelle as well, but he doesn't seem to be a favorite with this lot. West Ham have a difficult opening fixture and will be coming off an away Europa league match (even though Sakho wont play in it, the others will), so not crazy to bench him.

This is a pretty weird question, but I'm currently running me and my pals £20 mini-league for the second consecutive year.

I came 2nd last season, came 2nd in our Sun Dream Team game for the champs league and won our world cup game at a canter, pretty much thanks to the guys on these boards/FISO Forums.

My question is pretty much everyone in my league without meaning to sound rude is pretty clueless when it comes to FF.

Like I've seen RMT's with Ricky Van Wolfsinkel/ James Collins/ Falcao etc.

My question is, is there any immorality for me having this monetary league against friends knowing I have a pretty big edge, and whilst they discuss strategy/how good each others teams are/ etc I don't really divulge things such as Defensive rotation/price rises/ optimal Bonus Chip timings etc.

    So yeah, is this wrong?

It's definitely immoral earnings if you don't have any real competition.

      Can I enter?

Not wrong at all. You use your initiative and did some research on the game.....they did not. So its tuff luck for them

Well, here it is lads and lasses.

    Hennessey
    Azpi - Ivan - Huth
    Hazard - Cazorla - Ozil - Mane
    Rooney - Benteke - Wilson

    (Butland - King - Mings - Targett)

    GW3 transfers: (Ivan / Hazard -> 4.5 / 9.0) and (Rooney -> Kun)

Not happy with that defense at all mate to be honest. Targett very unlikely to see any game time. Is it worth having both Azpi and Ivan. Why not Koscielny? Is Hennessey nailed? Rest looks decent though. Maybe not Ozil since you have Cazorla.

It's mainly looking at the first 4/5 fixtures. Ivan is likely to drop down to a 4.5 like Holebas or O'Shea after the first week or two, as I'll want to get Kun in as soon as he's 100%.

Azpi is my long term premium defender at the heart of my team every game, I'm basing my whole defence around him, with the resulting 3 x 4.5 defenders taking up the other 2 spots in a 343 or 352. Targett is bench fodder.

Hennessey isn't nailed either but I'm happy to go with Butland every game and save the extra 0.5m. If Hennessey nails down a spot, thats a bonus.

Ozil could become Walcott, but Wenger has been saying some encouraging things about Ozil, and I feel that Arsenal will spread their goals amongst the team, so I'm looking to get the players that will get the most assists, whilst still chipping in with goals.

I think Wenger is likely to talk up Ozil to justify the amount of money he spent on him. From what I've seen of Ozil he blows very much hot and cold. I'd be inclined to look at a player from another team rather than buy two tickets to the Arsenal midfield lottery.

Surprisingly not much else in that bracket though..

Mata / Depay = I have Rooney, so I don't particularly want to double up on that, especially with LVG rotating.

Eriksen = The definition of hot and cold. Frustrating to own.

Firmino = New to the league, have Benteke.

Yaya = Tougher fixtures than Arsenal's, plays deeper than Ozil.

I could downgrade Ozil to Chadli and upgrade Targett to Mertesacker, but then my front 8 looks quite light..

Planned transfers are silly. Don't like the double up on Chelsea defense. Bench looks very light.

Well I could go with a 4.5 defender instead of Ivan, and upgrade Rooney to Kun from the off?

Yep, I want my money on the field.

Anyone thinking against Huth & Cedric?
I quite like the look of Sunderland + Newcastle rotation at the back?

I know next to nothing about Cedric Soares so will be avoiding. Seems like a card magnet.

Only 5.0 defender route into their defense, though. Probably the play over a 5.5 dude, even if he likes himself a card.

Cedric and Huth offer good attacking potential too, currently have both.
Went for Panti for my sunderland cover and not liking Newcastle tbh.

    Guys...

I have spent 6.0, 5.5, 5.0 so far on 3 defenders....anyone know the best 4.0M defenders who are first choice?

    Many thanks

      None are first choice!
Targett will play the first 1 or 2 games after that!
      Good luck

Who is this Stanislas lad? Better option than Wanyama for a 4.5 mid?

Well he's looking good pre season but not been featured in predicted line ups. Shipstontrev would be the man to ask - which I think I will next time I see him.
