The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

A league in which Michael Chopra is a star name is a league not worth watching.

I didn't see the game today; why is everyone jumping off Walcott? Surely no one was expecting him to bang in a hatrick against Chelsea and he has proven FPL pedigree.

It's messy with Ox sting very well and Giroud improving the forward line when he came on.

He was always too big a risk for me but the extra doubt has exceeded must people's threshold when there are safer Arsenal options

Sooo all change after today? Or hold tight?

    a) Walcott + Sakho (current set up and there was an assist and a goal between them)

    b) Hendo + Benteke ( Not sure about how Hendo did but Tekkers got a goal)

    c) Other

I have Hendo + Benteke, but Milner is looking more of a threat than Hendo, he's been pushing forward much more, so I'd consider that. Might as well go for Chadli instead.

Any suggestions on how I could improve this team:

    Ruddy Butland
    Francis o'Shea Bassong Muniesa Huth
    Henderson Cazorla Hazard Ozil Anya
    Benteke Rooney Kane

Even though I know the defence is really cheap I am very pleased with the team. Noticed I have 5 penalty takers which cant be bad.

    Thanks for all suggestions!

Isnt zouma more a centre back? Azpi might get dropped for the new guy from augsburg, if the deal gets finalised soon

      1. Zouma is a CD, DM

      2. Azpi played every game he was fit for last year / until they clinched
(Also, did you watch any of the other pre-season games or are we basing his entire *form* off just one performance?)

      3. Costa has a hamstring injury so, we'll need to wait & see
(but, w/ Swansea at home & City the week to follow, wouldn't exactly expect them to rush him back)

          NO idea.
But, Che start SWA, mci & wba so if you're WCing early maybe best to avoid Che altogether & then jump on whoever you like for their home game v. CPL in GW4.

    Thoughts on Oxlade...?

If he was nailed down a position he'd be great.

If we're worried about where Walcott, Ramsey, Giroud & Cazorla are all going to fit longterm would be wise to include Ox in that group of 'maybe's' too.
