This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Erikson / Mkhi / Mane / Willian / RLC
    Lukaku / Lacazette / Chicharito

Want to bring in Morata and Firmino... so would mean a 12 point hit.

Where does everyone stand on the Pogba vs Mkhi debate after this weekend?

    1. FDMS All Starz
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

Pogba had loads of shots but rarely hit the target, Mkhitaryan wasn't involved as much as Pogba but got his reward for being on set pieces...ultimately Mkhitaryan will be rested due to UCL against weaker teams so this may be a factor

I picked Mkhitaryan and am happy with the points/probably won't swap, but I think I'd rather have Pogba. Getting to play 90 minutes every match is a huge advantage, especially with how United have been going for the jugular after the first goal.

Same as me. I haven't felt that upset and angry about a defeat for since I can remember. Im a huge Arsenal fan and today I honestly came close to tears. Ive supported Wenger and never wanted him out but the team selection and tactics today was pathetic. Certain players as well don't look like they wanna be here anymore.

Putting a right back at left back when we've got a left back on the bench. Playing a left back at centre back when we've got a centre back on the bench. Putting our record 50 million pound striker on the bench for the biggest game so far this season. Its like Wenger is just sabotaging us with some of the decisions he makes.

        Absolutely agree.

Tbh I don't know why they don't just play Can In defence sometimes. Last season he started on the bench a lot but he'd already proved himself as a very capable defender when he played OOP when he first arrived at Liverpool.

Dunno why they don't do it...

I thought Can was brilliant in midfield yesterday.

I'm not sure i'd play him in defence personally.

Not sure why Robertson dropped out today or why Gomez is preferred to TAA.

They need two centre backs and a keeper.

Yes Can was fantastic. What i'm saying is that they actually have another very good CB who they can call on whenever they like with Can and when circumstances dictate...but somehow they've forgotten that he can play in both positions....in fact I bet he could play further forward as well if need be...as could Wijnaldum...

I don't know, may be Salah was the missing piece. Pace on either side of Bobby and Coutinho doing the creating. They also had Mane missing for a lot of last year, and besides the start last year when they were rampant, him and Mane didn't play too much together.

Well I have Jesus too, but could use the spare money to upgrade somewhere else, not sure is it worth for a hit?

      1. MTPockets

Seems to be first choice and not sure I agree with above on fixtures.
But if you think can do better with the funds should do so, although for a hit isn't so appealing.

    WC needed?

    Foster - Elliot

Jones - Mbemba - Bertrand (Daniels - Long)

Pogba - Ritchie - Ozil (Put him in for KDB last night) - Tadic (Carroll)

    Lukaku - Kane - Firmino

I was in a weird mood last night and put Ozil in for KDB which was a waste of time and one of the worst decisions I've made on this game. Dont want Kane anymore. Can get Cedric instead of Bertrand. Dont want Ozil. Dont want Ritchie or Tadic. Dont want Daniels.

    Should i do it?

why you put ozil in for KDB when the likes of alli and eriksen are around the same price is perhaps the greatest mystery to me

When CL starts, do we expect either of Salah or Mane to get more minutes in the PL than the other?

They'll all be rotated...as will players from all the top teams who seem to have larger squads this year.

Chelsea seem to have the smallest squad of all those so possibly less rotation.

Mane seems more undroppable to me but that's just a hunch based on very limited data.

    Hunme/gomez/yoshi/jones/Alons

    Gomes Eliot
    Dawson Cedric Valencia Suttner Long
    KDB Alli Mhiki Fraser Carroll
    Aguero Lukaku Mounie

1FT, what would you do here? Main issues:
    - KDB needs to be replaced
    - Fraser dropped by Eddie Howe and will probably drop in price
    - Aguero dropped but Sterling banned next game so he will play against Liverpool - still concerned about a possible price drop though.

KDB to Liverpool mid. Then Aguero to Kane the week after, if no other pressing issues. Maybe a hit to get rid of Fraser.

If I had I would keep. Can't be messing around with someone like him. Once he catches some luck/form he'll be off like usual
