This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Morning all DZ. What should i do with this lot?

    Foster
    KOLA, DANILO, Stephens
    Eriksen, Willian, RAMSEY, JWP
    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

    Elliot, Carroll, FRASIER, HUNEMIER

Players I need to lose in CAPS. Should I:

    A. Wildcard
    B. Kola & Ramsey ➡️ Jones & Mikhi -4
    C. Kola, Ramsey, JWP ➡️ Jones, Mikhi, Brady -8
    D. Ramsey, JWP ➡️ Mikhi, RLC -4

    Reasons to wildcard

    Forster, elliot
    Danilo *1, Bertrand, Hegazi*2, TAA*3, valencia*4
    KDB*5, willian*6, pogba, RLC*7, carroll,
    Kane*8, mounie*9, lukaku

    *1 - not nailed
*2 - could make a profit already and bring in someone who will definitely not be dropped
*3 - barely makes the team even without Clyne. + leaky defence
*4 - a lot of money for unlikely attacking returns
*5 - deeper than the mariana trench
    *6 - hazard
*7 - injured, prob drop in value soon, palace are pants
*8 - likely to drop in value any day now, amd would free up funds
*9 - really don't think he is as good as his first match suggests

Wildcarding is the right move, isn't it?

    Budget Mids

Need a replacement for JWP. Been extremely impressed with Can this season. Playing more of an 8 role than a 6 this season.

He's had to play all over the park last few years but feel he's nailed down this spot in the lineup now.

One assist already this season. Could have had 2 assists yesterday (his pass for the sitter that Salah missed was sublime)

He's got the occasional rocket shot in his locker and is getting in the box far more this season.

He won't play Arsenal every week but for me he's ideal 4th mid enabler.

Palace need to sack De Boer already don't they? Has one team looked so inept so early?

    Well, apart from Arsenal obviously.

Ozil is the easy scapegoat but Aaron Ramsey is one of the laziest players I've ever seen when arsenal don't have the ball. It has to be motivational issue because he is a different player for wales. He had that one amazing club season and since then seems to have rested on his laurels

I don't think he's lazy. I think he lacks discipline. He doesn't run in the right direction, ever. He wants to play as a number 10 and if he's going to play in the middle he needs a genuine holding player beside him, not a guy who just fouls people and launches long balls.

call it what you want but against Stoke and Liverpool the only direction he needed to run was towards the player who had the ball but instead chose to stop dead on his feet after 2 yards. saw it happen countless times

He's a good player. The entire team is clueless in this formation. Wenger has taken away the one skill they had which was to attack.

Now they're just set up to be beaten every match.

His continued employment is utterly perverse.

Was keen on saving my WC but now on 2nd glance i am not so sure

    What would you do?

    DDG/Elliott
    Dann*, Hegazi, Alonso, Stephens, Smith
    Ritchie*, Alli, Silva, Carroll, Pogba
    Gabi*, Jesus*, Lukaku

I have Dann, Ramsey, Willian, Kane and Kevin

      And I'm still not wildcarding

(just did Kevin to Pogba, might do Willian to Silva as well)

Calm down people. The fixture shift in week 6 is huge, try and hold on until then.

      definitely.
People looking at rank not score. People look 12 points separate 500k and 1m, about 38 pts separate 10k and 500k. Not a disaster.
Nowhere near enough info on how some of the key sides inc. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City & Arsenal are going to line up regularly.
Transfer window not closed so impact on starting line-ups not clear.
Obvious that some of the CL sides are going to have a lot of games & rotation between now & Xmas. Schedule is crazy.

I had a gw rank of 4.2m, it's hard when my team is losing value.

      But I will hold

Nice. Not sure I would bring in Haz just yet. Maybe save some cash to bring him in later? GK are too risky

Very nice team, but I'm with Toast on this. Too early to bring in Hazard - that said, see what he does during the IB.
