Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata maintains his impressive form with a goal for Spain as he continues to promote his Fantasy CV.

Here are the notes from Saturday’s international fixtures.

Morata the merrier

Alvaro Morata needed just 18 minutes to confirm his continued fine early-season form as Spain completed a convincing 3-0 win over fellow European football royalty Italy.

The Chelsea striker had to make do with a place on the bench as coach Julen Lopetegui opted to play with no recognised forwards at all, preferring instead to use Man City midfielder David Silva as a ‘false nine’.

But when Morata finally made it onto the pitch, he made an immediate impact, scoring Spain’s third goal a mere five minutes after replacing Andres Iniesta.

The strike means that he now has three goals and two assists from four matches this season, explaining why only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is ahead of him in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings.

It was widely anticipated that Morata would take time to adjust to his new surrounds at Chelsea; a theory that clearly played a part in deciding a modest 12.5% ownership.

Chelsea’s tough opening schedule also dampened early enthusiasm – the Blues have already played Spurs and Everton and still have to face Arsenal and Man City, albeit both at home, before Gameweek 7 is done.

But after their shock opening day defeat to Burnley, Antonio Conte’s side are starting to look every inch the defending champions, and Morata has clearly settled into his new role as their spearhead.

His goal and assist returns in both home matches to this point have sparked massive interest. More than 196,000 FPL managers have drafted in the Spaniard and, with 40,000+ making the direct trade, Morata has proved the most popular Harry Kane replacement ahead of Gameweek 4.

Of the strikers with two or more goals this season, only Romelu Lukaku can better his attempts (9), his minutes per chance average (20.9) and penalty box touches (15), while he and Firmino are the only strikers with two assists.

With Eden Hazard closing in on full fitness, Chelsea’s attacking threat – and supply line for Morata – is surely only going to improve, even if the Belgian is likely to regain penalty duties.

And based on current form, the forthcoming visit from Arsenal is not the test of old, which makes the Blues’ short-term schedule more palatable – (lei ARS sto MCI cry WAT bou), Man City notwithstanding.

Should he be given the chance to make hay in Spain’s Tuesday night trip to Liechtenstein, Morata will return to domestic duty for Gameweek 4 with form on his side, Hazard potentially supplying chances and with the fixtures more favourable than anticipated.

Elsewhere…

On a quiet night for Premier League players, Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s superb winner for Wales against Austria demonstrated the wealth of attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Elsewhere in that encounter, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey shook off doubts surrounding his fitness to play 90 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool, Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were held to a goalless home draw with Burkina Faso. They will now play the reverse fixture – a vital clash for the Senegalese – on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Man United centre-half Eric Bailly supplied an assist in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Gabon. Spurs’ Serge Aurier completed 90 minutes for the visitors.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in Georgia, only for Martin O’Neill’s men to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle United’s suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for the third match running in all competitions as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0, with Man United’s Nemanja Matic playing 77 minutes for the hosts.

Finally, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson managed a second consecutive full 90 minutes of the season, but couldn’t stop Iceland slumping to a 1-0 defeat in Finland.

One thing that's actually needed is in-site reply notifications, I don't want to have to open my mail everytime I check if anyone made a reply. Also the reply notification should be there by default with an option to check out if you don't want to be notified, not vice versa.

Keep Kola, the ox has been sold so should play. Nobody has emerged around Sterling's price bracket so providing you have sufficient cover I'd be tempted to just bench sterling for this gameweek.

Wasn't it a recurring theme with Hazard last season that he would run the show without getting many fantasy points? Also remember him doing better fpl-wise in bigger matches rather than the smaller ones (troll). I'd personally rather get Morata.

This, if getting him you'd have to make a long term commitment or you'll likely miss his hauls

Nah, a long term commitment with a 10m+ player without captaining him is poor value, imo. Will see if he's more predictable this season or he's staying out of my team 😛

Morata's cheaper price tag may swing it for him particularly for those who got him at 10.0 whereas he will likely be 10.2 vs Haz 10.5 for GW4 & steadily creep up to about 11.0 by Christmas if he keeps going the way he has

I wonder would both be an option? If you're not getting Kane it could be ok on the budget. Or maybe it's better to have Alonso +1 of them as triple Chelsea may be overkill (especially if it's a 27.5m triple)

        1. We Will Klopp you
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 10 months ago

Wouldn't want to triple up on any team this early double at most. As for Chelsea I'd want Alonso + one of them if doubling (Morata in my case)

Fair point, not saying he's a bad option just not a good captaincy option because he lacks what is key to making someone a good captaincy option: predictability.

Really struggling on who to bench in GW4.
    Currently have:
    Luiz-hegazi-cedric,lowe (lejeune)
    Alli-mki-Willian (ritchie+xhaka)
    Lukaku-Morata-Abraham
2,9 itb (for kane in GW5)

Tempted to add both ritchie+xaka in the team, but who to bench in case?

    1) Is Stephens no longer nailed for Saints

How would Liverpool attack be affected with Coutinho ? Coutinho at 8.8 is a very good option, anybody considering it. And his position could affect Firmino in a big way. I hope Coutinho doesn't spend his time sulking ,looked good for Brazil after recovering from "back injury".

    1. LarryDuff
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

Coutinho will move into midfield completely not effecting Salah, Mane and Firmino imo. plus with Can, Wijnaldum and Hendo doing well he may not return instantly

      1. ONE PUNCH MAN
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 10 months ago

true ,but atm Firmino is the creator with Mane and Salah running into box to be feeded. But if Coutinho is back,I am pretty sure he would be the creator,he is their best player so can't keep him on bench for sure.

        1. LarryDuff

klopp has shut down cry babies before, id say Wijnaldum is at risk as can is on his best form and hendo is trusted with defensive duties. Either way Cout back is a plus to the front three not a bad thing

why would coutinho affect firminos position in any shape or form?only sturrige orgi and that new kid solanke would affect firminos spot but thats not likely(more like hoping 🙂 ) while salah likes the right and mane the left coutinho will sit just behind those boys and would have and affects on all the other CM's like henderson, can etc.but not firmino imo

VVD what? not trained with the team dont want to stay at SOT, imo he gonna warm the bench for quit some time and Hoedt gonna be slowly introduced into the team, the pairing right now is working well so what would be the rush to change it.

Pay attention to the punctuation I used in the previous comment (Cedric.) 🙂 I think slowly VVD should be introduced back into the line-up, he won't be warming the bench forever or he might, anyway Cedric is the best pick imo.

You know that good feeling when you're on a WC. It can last for a whole week. Chasing price rises, tinkering and being able to press "confirm transfers", not giving a damn about drops coz those guys are out of your team... Just a beautiful overall feeling.

That's why a WC should be played in an int. break - to feel that feeling for 2 weeks instead of just 1.

I'm not actually going to play the WC just to get a longer "high" in an int. break. I'll play the WC when my team needs it. I could've also done it this GW, but decided against it.

I'm pretty sure all those that used it this GW had their reasons.

    Foster Elliot
    Alonso Cedric Hegazi Mee Rosenior
    Eriksen Salah Mkhitaryan Pogba RLC
    Kane Firmino Abraham

Not so sure about the 2xTOT, 2xLIV, 2xMUN attack, but they're the ones performing atm so it makes sense. Also gives room for flexibility if I want to change any in the near future.

      Overall its solid.

Personally I wouldn't go for both Mhki and Pogba. Although there's not many other options at that price point. Hegazi also might not keep his place and I think the value is gone from him: having Foster is enough WBA anyway imo. I think I'd punt with a cheaper defender such as Dunk, Holgate, Naughton.
