A star turn from an in-form striker makes history for Bournemouth as Arsenal’s defensive fragility is exposed once again.

Callum Wilson helped Bournemouth to their first ever Premier League win over the Gunners and boosted his increasingly strong claims to be our third forward for good measure.

The striker hit the equaliser and then set up Jordon Ibe’s winner, grabbing maximum bonus for a 12-point return.

Injury kept Wilson out of the team until Gameweek 10 and he then scored in just one match, although that did involve a hat-trick against Huddersfield, up to Gameweek 19.

But his current form has been well worth the wait for his 2.4% ownership, with strikes in three of the last four fixtures.

Priced at 5.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Wilson has the form and some favourable fixtures (whu che STK hud NEW lei) to be a strong third striker candidate.

He’s certainly got the attacking numbers to back up his claims. Only Harry Kane can better him for goals (five to three), shots (22 v 15), efforts in the box (14 v 12) and attempts on target (12 to eight) over the last four Gameweeks.

Ibe has also been producing the figures – as we detailed in yesterday’s Spot The Differential article – to warrant interest and he duly obliged with a first ever league goal for the Cherries.

He’s had more shots (19) and efforts on target (nine) than any other midfielder in the last four Gameweeks, while only four have bettered his 11 key passes.

Ibe thrived alongside Ryan Fraser, who provided the other assist, in a central support role in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

His 4.8 price and 0.4% ownership mark him out as a budget differential in a side showing some serious attacking intent – Bournemouth continue to rank top for shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks.

Bellerin boost for owners

Just one Arsenal player, Hector Bellerin (12.6%), is currently enjoying double-figure ownership in FPL and he delivered in an otherwise dismal display from the Gunners.

Having failed to score in the first 21 Gameweeks of the season, the Spaniard has now netted back-to-back goals, with the assist today coming from Alex Iwobi.

Bellerin is finally starting to translate attacking statistics into points – among defenders, only Marcos Alonso has bettered his 24 shots so far this season.

Defensively, however, it’s another matter for him and his team-mates.

Arsenal’s nine clean sheets this season is bettered by just five teams, but they’ve now gone five matches without a shut-out and have kept only three in the last ten.

Injuries to key personnel such as Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal haven’t helped, although Sead Kolasinac was fit enough to return to the squad today.

However, the summer signing was consigned to bench-warming duties as Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ continued at left wing-back at the Vitality Stadium.

Mesut Ozil’s knee injury seemingly kept him out, while Alexis Sanchez was omitted from the starting XI and edges ever closer to the Emirates exit. However, Arsenal’s attacking depth was at least boosted by the return of Aaron Ramsey, who was handed 16 minutes from the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Welsh international averaged 5.4 points per match prior to that problem and he will now be pushing for a return to the starting XI, particularly with the Sanchez saga finally nearing its end.

Arsene Wenger had this to say on the Chilean’s situation post-match

“He’s [Sanchez] in a mode where he doesn’t know what’s happening to him. That’s why I decided to leave him out, because he could have moved today, or not. I didn’t want to come down with him here travelling away from the team.”

The 2-1 defeat today made it just one win in five for Arsenal, yet their attack has ticked over, scoring 10 times.

And their medium-term schedule remains one of the kindest – the Gunners play just three of the top eight over the next 12 fixtures, facing Spurs in Gameweek 27, Man City the week after and Leicester City in Gameweek 31.

Who to C? Kane vs team that he destroyed last time or Salah vs Swansea or Sterling vs terrible team away?

Newcastle only conceded over 2 goals away when Lascelles out injured. That said haven't played City Spurs Pool Arsenal away yet

What should I do with DCL? Is he losing his place?
Double home matches tempted me to keep him but I am afraid he wouldn't play both or play as subs.

If you have a tranny to spare, then he's defo worth getting rid.

For me personally, I'm keeping as I've adequate cover on the bench and plenty of other transfers a bigger priority.

If I get a spare transfer then I'll swap to JAyew or Wilson for sure

I am still thinking between Alli or DCL to out, I have Son+Kane and they are enough for me but the clash against Southampton next week still looks to strong for Spurs.

DCL to Wilson looks promising but Bournemouth would play double away matches at London, and I think that's not good

I spared a tranny on the weekend.

Feel better for it, but wished I hadn't.

Just after some advice please. 1ft & 0.4itb.

    Pope (Elliot)
    Alonso, Otamendi, Jones (Ogbonna, Mee)
    Salah, Sterling, Son, Arnautovic, Lingard
    Kane (c), Firmino (DCL)

I want to replace 1 of my gk's as both have poor fixtures this week:
    (a) Pope out - Schmeichel in or
    (b) Elliot out - Adrian in

I'm liking (a) atm as they have very nice fixtures on the horizon except for mci in gw27 (WAT, eve, SWAN next 3) & they should have good defensive confidence from their cs in this current gw.

    Thoughts & thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! I have Salah and Sterling. Just trying to figure out who is better to go along side the other.

Full disclosure: Despite Son's form, he just isn't the same away from Wembley, and if I sell him, I could bring in KDB. But I also have the funds to bring in Firmino. Thus, my question.

I will ship out Lukaku even if he scores a hattrick tonight, lol. I really miss Alonso, getting behind in my mini league without him. To afford him, Lukaku is the nice option. Other option may be Ota to Stones, then Christensen to Alonso

Probably C as Chelsea have good fixtures for defensive returns so double up could be good short term. Then look to move on Christensen in GW 28 especially if they Chelsea have a blank obviously.

Players you are moving out are as good as what you want to move in.
Sideways IMO and -4 just is not worth it.
I have taken a hit for Richi/Arnie and DCL/Wilson to tidy my team up moving forward.
No reason to make a move until next week.

I'm considering holding son through his touch fixtures. I definitely wouldn't ship him before Southampton (away). I can see spurs winning that 4-0 and him contributing something

Any reason not to do these moves presuming Lingard makes it through v Stoke with no issues.

    Eriksen-> Lingard + Kenny -> Alonso. (Leaves 0.2m).

    Lloris.
    Christensen, Kenny, Otamendi.
    Sterling, Salah, Richarlison, Arnautovic, Eriksen.
    Kane, Firmino.
    Speroni, Ogbonna, Mee, Calvert- Lewin,
    2ft, 0.3m.

    1FT 0.5itb

    Adrian
    Jones Alonso Otamendi
    Sterling Eriksen Son Arnautović Lingard
    Kane(C) Vardy

    Speroni Quaner Dunk Dummett

Team is looking strong for the next week, but no Liverpool is obviously an issue. I'm 0.1m short of doing Vardy>Firmino (besides, I like Vardy's fixtures so not keen to sell) and I also can't do Eriksen>Salah for free.

If you were me, would you

    A) Save
    B) Get Mane for Eriksen
    C) Find another way to generate funds and get Salah for a -4?

Exactly.. that rules implies x2 when switching defenders from the same team.. would most likely mean that Salah had to outscore Eriksen by four points... could be done, but it would be chasing points...

I'm making the same decision and leaning towards A. Just not sure on who to put in midfield as 5th mid if I do. Currently have loftus cheek but not sure I should absorb the price drop when I have a free trade

      1. Venom Snake
        • 12 Years

I’m feeling the same way mainly because I have DCL who I really want to get rid of. RLC is cheaper and likely to return to the side to play his fantasy role as bench fodder.

Whereas there isn’t a cheap forward who can play the same role (Quaner?)

With Wilson, his fixtures are good enough to play every week without needing to rely on that 5th mid. But rotation could be looming with King and Defoe getting back to fitness

Quaner can yes.. bournenouth fixtures arent mouthwatering.. but that being said it still a close race.. lingards.form.slightly edges it for me.. would wait andfor see what happens.tonight though

Completely agree. I don't mind having Quaner in my team if he's going to get 20 mins most weeks but rarely a zero. I just don't have confidence in him getting that sort of game time. Wilson looks good for 5.7 too and I think he's in the rank for penalties too (could be wrong). I don't mind RLC as a bench fodder just not sure I want to lose the 0.1 sell value on him for that role. I could trade to Ibe but again I would never bench Wilson for him and he would only come on for blank weeks or if someone else doesn't play.

    352 or 343

    a) 343 -Niasse > Wilson
    b) 352 -RLC > 6.6 mid (have Lingard)

    1. La Gazzetta
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

If I had Niasse I would hold be tempted to hold him to see if he gets a move. If he did he could be the best 3rd forward option. Maybe B with Ibe and upgrade elsewhere for now?

I could see him playing at palace but that’s pure speculation. If anyone actually buys him I think he will get games. I know it’s slim but cheap forwards have so much uncertainty. Maybe that’s the answer though and just get Wilson and keep RLC

Currently have DCL and RLC and thinking of replacing both but maybe just 1 this week. 1.4 ITB 2FT.
    A) Wilson & Ox (one on bench every week)
    B) Wilson & RLC + 1.0 ITB (save other FT and likely take price drop and loss of 0.1 sell value on RLC)
    C) Crouch (or other 4.9 or less striker) & Lingard
    D) Wilson & Ibe + 0.8 ITB

I have wanted Wilson for a few weeks just not sure how I can make him work. Looks like I'll have to hold RLC. Thoughts appreciated.

Out of those B makes the most sense, purely because the cheap strike options are rubbish, and more expensive than a 5th mid at 4.5
