We start preparations for Gameweek 25 with the launch of our latest Captain Poll, assessing your views on the best armband options ahead of next Tuesday’s 6.45pm deadline.

Sergio Aguero (11.8) is again one of the strongest contenders after scoring a hat-trick and firing off seven shots in Man City’s 3-1 home win over Newcastle last weekend. He has another kind home fixture when West Brom drop by next Wednesday.

The number one transfer target in Fantasy Premier League ahead of Gameweek 25, Aguero has now scored 10 times in front of his own fans – joint-top with Spurs’ Harry Kane.

Before hosting a Baggies defence that have just one clean sheet in their last 11 road trips, City take on Bristol City in the Carabao Cup tonight and Cardiff in the FA Cup this weekend. Aguero started at Ashton Gate and, should he also get the nod in Sunday’s tie, then there may even be some concerns on his fatigue levels heading into Wednesday’s league fixture.

Raheem Sterling (8.9) looks another reliable Sky Blues option, with attacking returns in all of his last four league matches on home turf, including an assist for Aguero’s penalty against the Magpies. Over the campaign he has notched nine times in as many home starts.

City’s creator-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne (10.2) should also attract interest. The Belgian has delivered more key passes (46) at home than any other player and earned his 12th assist of the season against Rafa Benitez’s defence.

Another Belgian set to compete for the top of the poll is Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10.6), who dazzled against Brighton at the weekend, scoring twice and earning maximum bonus returns. A track record of five goals in six encounters against midweek visitors Bournemouth also weighs heavily in his favour.

Blues left wing-back Marcos Alonso (7.3) looks another attractive armband option: his clean sheet against the Seagulls was the eighth outing in a row where he has delivered a points return.

Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah (10.2), and Roberto Firmino (9.2), should also garner support, despite the Reds’ disappointing 1-0 away to defeat to Swansea City on Monday night.

They next travel to face a Huddersfield Town defence that has shipped more goals (nine) than any side over the last three matches, which includes a bruising 4-1 defeat to West Ham in their last home match.

The Egyptian winger looks the likeliest to challenge Aguero for top spot – away from home, he is ranked second for big chances (12) and goals (nine) and is joint-top with Kane for efforts on target (18).

Firmino, however, has returned double-digits in three of his last four starts in away matches.

Arsenal are the Swans’ next visitors and will be hoping to fare better than Jurgen Klopp’s troops after routing Crystal Palace 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

New arrival Henrikh Mkhitaryan (7.6) is expected to immediately command a starting role, and early adopters will be seeking a repeat of the initial form that harvested a goal and five assists in the first five Gameweeks for Man United.

Alexandre Lacazette was at last back among the goals in Gameweek 24, while Aaron Ramsey is expected to recover from illness to play some part. The Welshman has been limited to just 16 minutes due to injury since Gameweek 16, yet, away from home, he has still managed more shots in the box (17) and efforts on target (11) than any current team-mate.

Man United’s marquee signing Alexis Sanchez (11.7) faces a testing debut as Jose Mourinho’s side make their way to Wembley Stadium to face Spurs. With Toby Alderweireld potentially available to reinforce Mauricio Pochettino’s rearguard, interest in the Chilean and his new team-mates may be muted.

Similarly, votes for Spurs’ attacking assets could be curtailed given that Manchester United have kept two clean sheets from their last four away trips, conceding just three goals.

Nevertheless, Harry Kane (13.0)’s explosive potential can never be ruled out. The top captain pick in FPL in five of the last six Gameweeks, Kane remains the top-ranked player for shots (83), efforts in the box (50) and attempts on target (35) in home matches.

Alternative options include Stoke’s Xherdan Shaqiri (6.0), who hosts a Watford outfit without a clean sheet in 11 attempts. The playmaker impressed in Paul Lambert’s first match at the helm, firing off three shots in the box, all on target, earning an assist in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 25 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

What do you guys think of Ibe as a 5th mid, rotating with a 4th def in more difficult fixtures???

I think he is a solid 5th midfield option but would rather have a stronger midfield instead of someone like Ibe in 5th midfield spot

History this season (and previous) not exactly encouraging.
Good 3 fixtures after Chels though, although I’ll be staying clear

Going to take a risk and get Mhyki straight in my team if his expected to start Vs Swansea. I can see him hitting the ground running and at 7.6m he is great value

      Pogba Matic

      Mata Lingard Sanchez

      Lukaku

I'd imagine that is how it will look. Martial/Rashford at risk

      1. Zenith UK
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 5 months ago

        Not for me.
Given recent form Martial and Lingard safe.

Mourinho has not only dropped, but sold Mata previously, can imagine he's more than willing to do so again to make way for Sanchez.

        Past 5 GWs;
        Martial - 3Gs, 0As
        Lingard - 3Gs, 0As
        Mata - 0Gs, 0As

        Season;
        Martial - 9Gs, 5As
        Lingard - 7Gs, 4As
        Mata - 3Gs, 3As

        Martial Lingard Sanchez
        Sanchez Lingard Martial

        Either way. Hope this helps.

    2. Pranav Santhosh

Sanchez can play all attacking positions and I think lingard becomes a worse option as he should see less gametime. If for some reason he continues to start he will be a better option as Sanchez improves united attack

Im unsure of the correct term but wasnt Sanchez usually 'wide' for Arsenal?

For me its Martial, Mata and Rashford more under threat. But thats a guess

Morning! An annoying 0.1 away from my ideal move of Son to Mahrez

    Adrain
    Alonso Jones Christensen Kenny
    Salah son lingard sterling
    Kane aguero
Woodman Gomez ibe quarner 0.5 itb 1ft

Looking for any creative ideas??! Lingard to Stoke mid this, Son to Mahrez next? Not feeling the Stoke thing
Could be a save? Thanks for any thoughts

You could ride out the save and hope son and lingard get in on the points.
Perhaps just save if you don't feel the stoke love.
      Nice team btw.
I'm guessing with Kane and Agüero you've done well these weeks.

      I would save.
Lingard has two good fixtures after Spurs.
You could even consider plying Gomez this week if you really don’t fancy Lin this week. Or Son against Busrinho. Although Pool aren’t keeping a lot of CS away

Glad to hear. I'm having a shocker of s season.
Nothing seems to come to consistent points.
I'm helping a mate in our money league and he's thrashing everybody. I give him 3 options and he always chooses the good one.
All my mates think I'm cheating with a b team. But I'd never do that.
Point is I seem to be able to provide advice and not use it wisely myself. It sucks.

Dont give up. Over 8 weeks gone from 1.2M to 120k. Just been steady and not afraid of taking hits. Never owned Firm or Arnie, just look for some differentials in 2 or 3 spots and of course some luck needed

Yep. I still enjoy the game. It's weird its like the fantasy gods go against me every few seasons.
My year history clearly shows it.

Oh well. I'll just crack on and try to climb up the ranks with a steady template minus a differential or 2 here and there

          A or B.
Simply comes down to if you think Kun will be better than Firm + 8 points + cash over the next few weeks.
You already have 5 players that COULD miss GW 28, so Kun would mean 6.

Arsenal and ManCity will be blanked unless they can reschedule that GW (not likely).
ManUtd and Chelsea will blank if Chelsea wins over Arsenal (same with the rescheduling).

          Yeah thanks.
Yes, I could really have used Niasse point in a week where most of my mids blanked and no Kun :/
Hopefully by some miracle he will become first choice for 2nd striker.
Great goal per minute ratio so far!

That's true. Surprising points per price ratio.
If I was the gaffer I'd play him more.
Maybe its that he seems to of cone on the pitch when oppositions legs where tired he's had a good impact on most games.

Yeah I definitely think that has something to do with it as well. Wouldn’t keep it up if he were to play more minutes. He has same goal per minute ratio as Salah for god’s sake hah.
But would liked to have seen him at another club nonetheless

    Stones TAA Lascelles
    Salah Sterling Son Shaqiri Lanzini
    Aguero Kane

I'd just bench Lanzini this week and play Jones in a 4-4-2

      Nothing worth a hit.

      1. Licious Lizard (delete acc)

But TAA probably won’t play either. So it’s perhaps Duffy + 4 VS the Lanzini replacement

    Pope (Adrian)

This is my mid and attack

I can do Arnie and Firmino ----> Shaqiri and Kun for a -4 or downgrade Otamendi to Jones/VVD but can´t afford Mahrez after that.

      Selection of best tips....
In the first month.... Don't go with Kane. He doesn't score in August. I kept Kane.
In November.... Stick with Sterling he has better heat maps and is playing more forward than Sane. I switched to Sane.
In December... Don't dump Kane he is going to rack up some points. I dump Kane back to back hatties.
Also.... Don't get Ali for the DGW get Arnie and hold him for a bit he has good games upcoming. I get Ali.
Last week... Get Aguero in for Newcastle he loves to score against them. Could get 3 or more. Even if you have to switch Kane for him. I keep Kane and don't get Aguero.

      Hahaha epic.

I'm more concerned him keeping Danilo out as an option

"He is a talented player - we insisted he was aggressive in the duels. He is loved because he is very nice, he always has a smile in bad moments.

"Now he has a chance because Mendy is out for a while and Delph is too."

Rather than chasing last week's points (e.g. Aguero), why don't people try to get ahead of the curve and predict the next short-term template in advance? That's where you really make progress in this game.

Yes you could dismantle your team to get Aguero now, but Kane is Kane and Firmino has Huddersfield. Aguero only has 3 fpl games before a blank (plus cup games so rotation risk) and Jesus could come back soon. His hat-trick is gone. The time to get him was 3 GWs ago when Jesus got injured - if you jumped on that opportunity you had a run of great fixtures for him to repay you, and he has.

So now surely managers should be identifying the 'next Aguero'. Is it Sanchez v Huddersfield GW26 when other big hitters have poor fixtures? Is it a Leicester attacking double up? Is it Wilson in for GW26-28 great fixtures in order to free up funds for a huge midfield upgrade from Lingard / Arnie to any 9m+ mid you fancy?

The best managers are the ones who see these opportunities, like Aguero clearly was, and act on them before the points happen. It feels like this gets a bit forgotten sometimes.

Think this sounds like a decent plan. Although it will be a benching headache between Allen/Wilson/4th defender every week.
But you will need Depoitre out for someone who is playing 28.
Also be aware when Coleman is back, as you will probably need Kenny to play 28 too

I was thinking I should just get a cheap 4.5 or .6 striker for depoitre as I already seem to of cone 352.
Invest the point-mehh in upgrading kenny and of oggie later on.
Biggest fire to put out is vert with those tricky fuxtures

                8 years, 5 months ago

I can see what you mean. But it’s just really slim pickings in the cheap striker department.
                J. Ayew could be a shout (when is Abraham back?)
Don’t like Niasse if he doesn’t get a move. Crouch not nailed enough. And then there are only the likes of Quaner/McBurnie who aren’t even nailed and will only get you 1-2 points.
Kenny could go to Chilwell or someone like that. Ogbonna has okay fixtures, although not in 28.

I see why you would do that but GW28 makes me want as many starting attackers as possible. Doesn't seem like the time to downgrade to bench fodder. Kenny are Oggie are easy fixes because there are options in their price brackets - Bardsley (Burnley have great fixtures until end of season), Dunk/Duffy (also great fixtures), etc. I would personally get a decent 3rd striker and give yourself the option. But then again I probably wouldn't have bought Allen in the first place.

                  Yes. You are very right.
Need as many playing guys as possible to navigate to roughness coming.
Allen was actually bought with the idea of swapping between.j ayew and him
Stoke and swans seemed to have ok rotation fixtures.

Oh. Just pulled the trigger on rlc to allen as I thought he'd drop and mess up future ideas I had.

Save for this week then if you have no frees. Look above for next moves.

Might be worth bumping Dep up to Wilson, so take Vert down to one of those 'good' 5.4's?

          Indeed. Depo > Wilson
And vert > monreal looks good

Arsenal blank in GW28. You really need to be making transfers that support an overall GW28 strategy I think. You only have 3FT left.

              This.
I would go VvD as I prefer him to Maguire

Same. VVD looks like he has a massive haul on the way. Could have easily had 2 assists in Swansea game. Will get a goal at some point, will sweep up baps if they CS and he scores too. I'm trying to work out when the right time is for me to transfer him in.

Yeah me too. He already scored against Everton in the Fa cup.
I was honestly thinking about doing Ota to VVD. I know Ota is a great option as well, but the 28 blank, mixed fixtures and extra cash might swing it for me. Plus City just don’t seem to keep cleanies - even against Bristol they let in 2.
My only problem is that I mistakenly brought in TAA as a cheap 5th def and 3rd Pool player

And for what it’s worth: I prefer VVD over Maguire if you can afford.
VVD looked dangerous last game (Swansea I know 😉 )

VVD cost them buggers a fortune. He's bound to put in the effort

Maguire is just as dangerous as vvd and prefer his fixtures aswel

Yes. Maguire 2 goals and 4 assists so far. But think VVD will outscore Maguire.

              Very close between them both.
Maguire has 3 plum home fixtures in the next 5 but man city away in 27
Plum 28 though when plenty of people could get caught short of starters.
VVD has 2 away games albeit hud and sou sandwiching a tricky home game TOT
              Followed by WHU and NEW.
Lol I want them both now!!!!

Haha yup both great options. Maguire could be best in next 3, although after that I think VVD will runaway.

Yup. By then we'll know for sure who's blanking. By then it could be time to even ditch azpi.

                    Yeah true.
For now I think Otamendi will be the one to go for me before GW 28.
Good luck with the transfers, Skid V!

                      Ota is a beast.
Best of luck to you too and thanks a million for the chat.
It's given me plenty of room to plan ahead.
Lordylord knows I need to navigate the fixtures well and climb some rank. Worst season in some years.

It's gotta be mostly greens from now til the end 🙂

Good stuff too. !! Thx again
I was looking at okazaki on motd, looked lively. But nothing he's been underachieving
Me may be due done decent points.

The beauty of this game is the amount of possible permutations.
For an indesicive nutter like me it's all too much of s head scratch.
