We start preparations for Gameweek 25 with the launch of our latest Captain Poll, assessing your views on the best armband options ahead of next Tuesday’s 6.45pm deadline.

Sergio Aguero (11.8) is again one of the strongest contenders after scoring a hat-trick and firing off seven shots in Man City’s 3-1 home win over Newcastle last weekend. He has another kind home fixture when West Brom drop by next Wednesday.

The number one transfer target in Fantasy Premier League ahead of Gameweek 25, Aguero has now scored 10 times in front of his own fans – joint-top with Spurs’ Harry Kane.

Before hosting a Baggies defence that have just one clean sheet in their last 11 road trips, City take on Bristol City in the Carabao Cup tonight and Cardiff in the FA Cup this weekend. Aguero started at Ashton Gate and, should he also get the nod in Sunday’s tie, then there may even be some concerns on his fatigue levels heading into Wednesday’s league fixture.

Raheem Sterling (8.9) looks another reliable Sky Blues option, with attacking returns in all of his last four league matches on home turf, including an assist for Aguero’s penalty against the Magpies. Over the campaign he has notched nine times in as many home starts.

City’s creator-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne (10.2) should also attract interest. The Belgian has delivered more key passes (46) at home than any other player and earned his 12th assist of the season against Rafa Benitez’s defence.

Another Belgian set to compete for the top of the poll is Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10.6), who dazzled against Brighton at the weekend, scoring twice and earning maximum bonus returns. A track record of five goals in six encounters against midweek visitors Bournemouth also weighs heavily in his favour.

Blues left wing-back Marcos Alonso (7.3) looks another attractive armband option: his clean sheet against the Seagulls was the eighth outing in a row where he has delivered a points return.

Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah (10.2), and Roberto Firmino (9.2), should also garner support, despite the Reds’ disappointing 1-0 away to defeat to Swansea City on Monday night.

They next travel to face a Huddersfield Town defence that has shipped more goals (nine) than any side over the last three matches, which includes a bruising 4-1 defeat to West Ham in their last home match.

The Egyptian winger looks the likeliest to challenge Aguero for top spot – away from home, he is ranked second for big chances (12) and goals (nine) and is joint-top with Kane for efforts on target (18).

Firmino, however, has returned double-digits in three of his last four starts in away matches.

Arsenal are the Swans’ next visitors and will be hoping to fare better than Jurgen Klopp’s troops after routing Crystal Palace 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

New arrival Henrikh Mkhitaryan (7.6) is expected to immediately command a starting role, and early adopters will be seeking a repeat of the initial form that harvested a goal and five assists in the first five Gameweeks for Man United.

Alexandre Lacazette was at last back among the goals in Gameweek 24, while Aaron Ramsey is expected to recover from illness to play some part. The Welshman has been limited to just 16 minutes due to injury since Gameweek 16, yet, away from home, he has still managed more shots in the box (17) and efforts on target (11) than any current team-mate.

Man United’s marquee signing Alexis Sanchez (11.7) faces a testing debut as Jose Mourinho’s side make their way to Wembley Stadium to face Spurs. With Toby Alderweireld potentially available to reinforce Mauricio Pochettino’s rearguard, interest in the Chilean and his new team-mates may be muted.

Similarly, votes for Spurs’ attacking assets could be curtailed given that Manchester United have kept two clean sheets from their last four away trips, conceding just three goals.

Nevertheless, Harry Kane (13.0)’s explosive potential can never be ruled out. The top captain pick in FPL in five of the last six Gameweeks, Kane remains the top-ranked player for shots (83), efforts in the box (50) and attempts on target (35) in home matches.

Alternative options include Stoke’s Xherdan Shaqiri (6.0), who hosts a Watford outfit without a clean sheet in 11 attempts. The playmaker impressed in Paul Lambert’s first match at the helm, firing off three shots in the box, all on target, earning an assist in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 25 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

I feel like saying that to 80% of the questions on here 😉 but Chopou doesn’t have a cup game and Aguero likely to be rested. That said others in his team can get injured

I don’t understand early transfers in a two week GW with lots games before the next FPL fixture, a bit mad really

Will not trigger transfer until the last day before the next GW, obviously. But curious already is Aguero worth a hit or stick to Trollmino!

    Walcott or Willian punt maybe?

Willian can only be short term. Not sure why spend a transfer only to later find a replacement for him. Everton are not attacking much for Walcott to be a good option. I would rather find funds to upgrade him or downgrade him completely to upgrade another player

If Cheslea win tonight I’m in for a nightmare GW28.

    Pope/Elliot
    Jones
    Alonso
    Christensen
    Otamendi
    Sterling
    Lingard
Add to that DCL, Niasse & Wimmer

That’s 10 non starters for me.
Ideally I’m looking at Pope, Ota, Christensen, Lingard, DCL, Niasse & Wimmer out to give me a starting 11. But that means -16 over the next 4 gws.

If United vs Cheslea is on I can breathe a little and can field a starting 11 with -8.

Yes I do have FH. But I don’t want to use it for this week as Pope, Ota, Christensen, Lingard, DCL & Niasse are the players I really don’t want to keep and will be looking sell them from GW27-28.

Valencia, Salah & Firmino are the key to my success.

Very unlucky move I must say.

It was rash really having held him for so long whilst injured. I think I thought he was more uncertain and I really fancied Danilo vs Newcastle!

Fair enough re free hit. Hope you manage to sort your team before then 🙂

There is too much planning and focus on the upcoming blanks for game week 28. Still three whole game weeks to go. There are still lots of points to be had by the teams with a blank.

Agreed but I can understand the hesitation to now bring in new players from teams that may blank

I'm looking at bringing Sane in as i think he's a great differential and potential to score big until then. Happy if no one else buys him because he will blank in 28.

And therein lies the danger for me. If you hesitate to bring in a city attacker for example, they could score 30 points before the blank and you have to wonder if anyone else can make up for that, or wether it is just better to accept that you will get some 0's in that one particular gameweek which could well end up being low scoring anyway!

Tonight will reveal all, but considering many have 7 or 8 potential (maybe?) players that blank, one injury and 2 dodgy subs that don’t play, then 4 transfers before 28 will not be enough.

Tentative planning can never be too early? keeping the likes of Son & Kane but bringing in Mahrez over potential blankers seems like very sensible planning ?

Not enough for what? If Chelsea, Man united, Arsenal and City don't play that week, who will you bring in as cover? There will be plenty in the same situation.

It will most likely be a low scoring gameweek.

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 10 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

          Schmeichel or Pickford for DGea
          Maguire for Ota/Christensen
          Mahrez/Mane for Pogba/ Sane
Milivojevic (or many others) for Lingard/Willian
          Keep Son
          Keep Kane
          Keep Firmino
          Get a playing bench

Any of the above are good options rather than bringing in or keeping potential blanking players ... good to tread lightly and go for the non blanker in any 50:50 decision

You just need to open your mind and step away from the FFS herd mentality? 😉

I am likely to bring in Aguero 🙂

      3 City, 1 Utd, 1 Chelsea, 1 non-playing bench player.
      City also play Chelsea GW29.
      Got 4 FTs.
Will bench Sterling & Ota - too much cash tied up.
      Aguero will go GW28.
      Lingard can go anytime.
      Bench Chelsea.
But still fancy Arsenal to beat Chelsea tonight.
GW28 doesn't look a big points week if there are the 2 blanks. Goals maybe Liverpool-West Ham, Palace - Spurs.

had a bit of a nightmare. first and second in my two money leagues but a lot captained aguero last gameweek. kneejerked and did 4 transfers (-12!!) to get aguero in on saturday evening before the price rise. dcl, lingard, daniels and sterling to aguero, arnautovic, fraser and goldson. current team for next gw:

    fabianski (elliott)
    alonso jones kenny tomkins (goldson)
    salah pogba arnie (fraser rlc)
    kane aguero firmino

    0.1m itb

now arnie who i brought in is injured, should i wildcard to sort out this mess? could do with replacing rlc and would like to sort out keepers. feel like it’s way too early to wc

Why wouldn't you wait until all games have been played? Did you think you might get Agueros hatrick if you made the move quick enough?

    2. Reiko
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

There is no such thing. If u feel ur team really needs a WC then go for it. The points u accumulate with and without WC from now until the BGWs & DGWs also can make a big difference.

      1. nothingbutgreen
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 1 month ago

it’s not that it particularly needs it.. it’s than i’ve gone -12 for the first time this season and one (poss 2) of the players i brought in ain’t playing. feel like the hit wasn’t worth it so i could claw the 12 points back and replace arnie but obviously my wc will be gone. it was an avoidable error! it was all about getting aguero in before the price rise.. more of a blocking move. my own fault for not playing my own game...

    3. Aston-villain
      • 10 Years

Dont wc. The team is decent.

      • 14 Years

You could hold out and move Arnie on next week. Alternatively you could use free hit which would mean you miss out on Kuns price rise but at least you can bring him in next week for free if you so wish and still keep your wildcard for dgw. I think this is preferable and youd still have Sterling to captain v WBA.

My current team is literally the exact template and I'm finding the game incredibly boring at the moment as I can't celebrate any of my players scoring or keeping a CS. Looking to try and shake it up

    Thoughts?

If u wish to shake things up, I would get Sane over Sterling. Can downgrade Ibe or Pickford if no funds.

Sterling is more expensive than Sane and I have too much tied up in Sterling to want to sell him at this moment in time. He hasn't really done anything wrong to warrant selling IMO

I just swapped Ibe to Obiang and did Lascelles for TAA. Chilwell I think will play as will Obiang. Obviously not a very inspiring bench but I'm finding it really hard not to pull the trigger for that midfield :')

TAA to Dummett who rotates Home and Away with Chiswell might be worth it.

Oooo that could be better actually! Thanks! I look at it and just think Hazard Sanchez could be such powerful differentials and I'd rather have them than say put Lingard in MF and Aguero/Kaku up top

You could be ahead of the game when others are taking hits to get those two in. Looking at that midfield makes me want to wildcard. Must resist!

Sanchez 3% ownership Hazard 6.9%. Over next 3 as well will be captaining either of those 2 as differential options given Kane's tough fixtures. I'm this close to hitting "play Wildcard" lol

Going into the final game of the week and wanting your prize FPL assets to blank because everyone else has them .... surely that is not what the game is all about ?

I'm finding this to be the case at the moment. I'd rather have players that very few players have so that when they do well I can actually celebrate them scoring. Finding the game rather tedious at the moment

What do you lot think of these transfers? Only negatives I see are Willian rotation risk and getting in 2 DGW blankets.

Depoitre*, Arnie*, Son -> Kun(c), Willian, Shaqiri (-8)

    Thanks.

    Ota Ogbonna Mee Christensen (Holgate)
    Salah Arnie* Sterling Son (Atsu)
    Kun (C) Kane (DCL)

    2 FT and 0.2 ITB

Willing to go -4....so 3 FT to use. Arnie will go.

But should i give my midfield or defence priority with the other TF's?? Suggestions? Won't get Alonso though...

Pretty exciting week when it comes to captaincy. Could possibly be a lot more diverse than recent weeks.

Kane could still score well vs United (although I think Mou will arrive with a huge bus)

Aguero in form and ownership still quite low.

Salah/Firmino I think can have a big week. They will look to bounce back and Huddersfield is the perfect opponent for that with their recent form.

    Hazard against Bournemouth? Tasty.

I predict a lot of tears after the next gameweek. Seeing so many people considering Firmino and Kane out, whilst not many are opting for Hazard just because they've been burned by him very recently.

I can definitely see the appeal in Kane out right now. Although last time that was discussed it didn't end well. The opposition is different this time around, but I think there are plenty of goals in the Arsenal and Liverpool game. So it's really only the Manchester United game that poses a problem for me...

The blank in GW28 for City means it's probably best to ride it out without Agüreo - if not planning on using FH chip that GW

Mkhi at Arsenal is definitely an interesting option. I thought this would be Mkhis season and he still has time. At 7.6 he could be a mega bargain if he is a starter and gets the form

While I like KDB, I don't think he is the best fantasy option right now. He rarely outscores Sterling or Sane by a large margin and Aguero is the most explosive player in the team. He's just not great value at all compared to at least two of his teammates. And then there's Silva to consider again.

Hazard gets a lot of stick these days on FFS, but he is to me kind of like what Kane is to Tottenham. When they play well and score goals a lot of it goes through him.

    Adrian - (Elliot)
    Alonso - Mee - Ogbonna - Ota - (Mbemba)

    Kane - Aguero - (DCL)

Stupidly took Hazard out for Arnie last week.

Very tricky position i'm in now. After getting bored and mucking about spunking transfers for the first half of the season and basically 'doing a Jonty' i'm now setting about trying to repair my season. I've been rising since I started taking it seriously again 6 or 7 gameweeks ago, so up from a ludicrously comical 2m to a merely comical 800,000. No WC or FH. Just TC and BB. My team is:

    DDGea
    Jones, Otamendi, Alonso, Azpi, Stones
    Salah, Sterling, Mahrez, Lingard (Doucoure)
    Kane (Ayew, Quaner)

    0 ITB, 2FT

What are my best options here. The biggest mistake of the year could end up being using the FH earlier in the season (to little effect) because i've so many potential blankers

    Should I

    A) Carefully plan and prepare for the coming blanks
    B) Carefully prepare for the coming DGWs
    C) Ignore both and concentrate on just getting the very best team out each week
    D) some other option? Ignore the blanks then spunk loads of hits of DGWs, or vice versa, or spunk hits on both

You have litrally mirrored my last season in rank fall from grace.

I got to about 800K about this time too. Got to 82K at the end. Chips are vital, also avoiding hits.

I recommend careful planning for the blanks and dgwks. Have a sprinkling of blankers though as you will lose out by swerving them.

Also make sure you are flexible. So for example Son is good from GWK 28 so get a good 8-8.5 player now that is dumpable then - Sane or Pogba perhaps?

yeah i figured if I put the time in I should make top 150,000 or 100,000 at a push

the blanks news has just potentially made this planning a touch easier, or at least extended the time i have

Stuck between Mahrez or Sane. If I go Mahrez I am set up nicely for GW 28 with only Otamendi, Sterling and Jones with no game as I will punt Lingard > X for that GW.

    A) Arnie > Mahrez
    B) Lingard > Mahrez
    C) Arnie > Sane
    D) Lingard > Sane
    E) Hold FT and bench Arnie

    Pope Elliot
    Otamendi Jones Kenny Duffy Ogbonna
    Salah Sterling Son Lingard Arnie*
    Kane Firmino Quaner
