Fantasy Premier League assets from Mexico and Uruguay continued their involvement in summer tournaments.

Both nations are faring relatively well in the Copa America and CONCACAF Gold Cup and look likely to go deeper into the competitions.

We’ve rounded up the latest action.

CONCACAF Gold Cup

Mexico 3-1 Canada

Raúl Jiménez may not have come out of Mexico’s 3-1 win over Canada with any goals or official assists but he was still pivotal to the result.

The Wolves striker would have earned himself a Fantasy assist for his country’s opener as it was his first time shot in the box which was rebounded into the path of scorer Roberto Alvarado.

It was his hard work in a high press that led to the second Mexico goal after half-time.

His tackle on an unwitting defender pushed the ball to Andres Guardado who fired in a thunderous effort from range.

Finally, it was Jiménez’s brilliantly won header which released Uriel Antuna down the right flank to square for Guardado, who made it 3-1 with ease.

The FPL favourite already scored a brace in Mexico’s 7-0 win over Cuba and has been arguably one of his country’s best players at the tournament so far.

Wolves fans and Fantasy managers alike will be hoping he keeps up his form and can carry it into 2019/20 with full fitness to boot.

Copa America

Uruguay 2-2 Japan

Lucas Torreira got his first start of the Copa America in the second round of Group Stage matches.

The Arsenal midfielder featured only as a substitute earlier this week as his country beat Ecuador 4-0.

For the clash with Japan, Torreira came back into the central midfield of Oscar Tabarez’s 4-4-2 formation for Matias Vecino.

He was largely anonymous as Uruguay twice had to come back from a trailing position but had one moment of brilliance as a skilfull flick set up a chance for Luis Suárez.

Got a feeling Jimenez new price will be off putting, but hoping otherwise.
    Feel the same about Wilson.
Who do people think are worth considering in the 6 - 8 bracket.
    Murray seen his best?
    Deeney going to start?

Arnie and Zaha if they stay

I'm not sure we will have as much choice as we did last year. Maybe Arnie, King, DCL or Mitrovic if a premier league club buys him.

Ignored King because similar price, so always went to Wilson.
Might be worth considering now if 1.5-2m difference.

'Less choice' might not be such a bad thing. I think we were spoilt at times last season, and as a result often had the one who didn't haul.

At the moment I'm thinking Vardy, Rondon and a bench fodder.

Rondon was brilliant to own last season, particularly near the end. I reckon he'll easily be £6m.

The way I see it both Vardy & Rondon are main (affordable ish) strikers who are playing for teams that are improving.
I can see Leicester really smashing it under Rodgers.

Yeah, I think Vardy will be at least £9m though. I do tend to agree with your comments re: Leicester & Rodgers though. I'm also monitoring Maddison. His price will be one of the first I check.

You reckon Newcastle will buy Rondon?

Imo if Ashley stays he hardly fits the under 25 rule. But if mega bucks owners appear they’d likely aim higher.

Oh I’d buy him in a heartbeat.

My guess is Ashley stays and he’s hardly renowned for this sort of pragmatic decision.

If Ashley dont sell the club he will need to make sure they dont get relegated - why would you look elsewhere for a striker if you already had him there & proven ?

If Newcastle gets a new rich owner then is anyones guess what will happen.

It's very very unlikely that Rondon comes back to NUFC, the best we could offer at this stage would be another loan swap deal with Gayle, we won't buy a 30 year old striker for 16.5 million (reported buy out clause.)

I'm surprised more clubs aren't linked with Mitrovic.

Seems only West Ham are linked, but you guys and Everton need a striker of his ilk too.

Why would they give what seems to be a popular service like Hangouts on Air the axe unless it is part of the big 4 tech company's crackdown on freedom of speech and they do not like some of the discourse that takes place on HoA?

Whoever Jimenez is patterned with up-front should thrive. Terrific player.

I'd take Jota as a 7.0m striker, depending on who Wolves buy.

Most chances from counter attacks in the league last season (28).

            Adama (6), Jiménez (6), Diogo Jota (5).

I wonder how many of those came after they switched from the 343 to the 352. Jimenez and Jota worked so well together after the switch.

I would suspect quite a few, Nuno adding Dendonker in midfield allowed Jota to stay up with Jimenez and feed off his hold up play. Not to mention how good Moutinho/Neves are in playing quickly in transition. Lethal combination if they have the space to play into, hence why they continued to struggle against the lesser sides sitting in a deeper block.

How tough are those fixtures though? Chelsea and United at home aren’t plum of course but they’re not exactly frightening either given the uncertainty at those clubs.

The bigger worry for me is EL fixtures. But just as Wolves set a new standard for a promoted side I’m prepared to gamble on their getting the EL and PL conundrum right.

If Jota comes in at 7.0 as a forward I’m very definitely interested.

            Assuming gw19-38 Everton I guess.

But if you take Wolves as a counterattacking side then it doesn’t look so bad. On last seasons form I’d still take Wolves to score and both Jim and Jota from memory had over 50% goal involvement - part of their charm.

The worry for me is still EL and whether we’ll see some rotation variation in Wolves line ups.

There were rumours flying around that Wolves were considering making a bid for Rondon. I'm not sure how that would have panned out having Rondon and Jiminez upfront together.

Smart. Probably just to add depth to their squad now they are in the Europa League. Jimenez played a lot last season in the PL and didn't miss a match. Only Mitro had played more last season among forwards.

    Hi G-Whizz or Torresmagic,

I just signed up for membership there, looking forward to a new season 🙂

When does the number change on your ‘number of years’ being on FFS?

    Many thanks,
    Joejitzu

The reason I ask is I see you (Torresmagic) have moved from 9 to 10 and I’m still stuck on 5 from last year.... cheers!

      Oh well that’s that

Still Afghanistan cricket must be close to the most heart warming story in sport - not least because they’re so good. This result was no fluke - they tied with India last year after beating SL and Bangladesh.

Not sure how they can be overrated when everyone accepts they are easily the worst team in the tournament, but their development in the face of such adversity has been quite remarkable. It’s all relative.

Their development has been staggering, true, but many were expecting them to pull off at least 2-3 upsets.

They've still got a long way to go and were ridiculously fortunate to qualify. Would still put 2-3 teams not playing this wc above them

Thinking about writing one about Sterling Vs Aguero and Salah Vs Mane. Already done the research.

I’d be very interested in that, particularly Kun vs Raz

It’s seemed to me for that last two years that Raz will outscore Aguero over a season yet most everyone still goes Kun, even HoF top tens and this doesn’t make sense to me, why go for the worse player?

I can only imagine that it’s because Kun is more reliable at returning something as a home game captain.

If you can rotate home captaincy between Kun and someone else then you can look at their value based on a price of £8.5-9m or so.

I’ll probably go Raz again this year though.

If talking about the cricket then it was unlucky, but really Brathwaite has been put into a rubbish position by the West Indies top order. They still haven't learnt that 50 over cricket is not about trying to hit every ball for 4 or 6. Even though it is theoretically possible it just doesn't work in practice.

It's when the bonus points are opinion based. Some guy "in the stands" watches the game and awards them to the best players. A bit like man of the match except 3 players.

To be fair - this season in Eliteserien hasn’t been as wild as last season in terms of man in the stand bonus - closer to FPL this season - but still fun all the same!
