Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to join forces with Fantrax for the 2021/22 season.

Fantrax is a free, draft-style Fantasy platform that offers managers the chance to set up their own mini-leagues with friends, family and work colleagues and completely customise their own league rules and scoring system.

Picture the scene: no tedious ‘template’ teams, no captaincy pot-luck misery, points for the long-overlooked defensive midfielders and not a single mention of effective ownership in sight.

Oh, and only one person can roster each of the premium assets such as Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane and Sadio Mane. Fantasy nirvana.

Sign up to Fantrax for free today and you could be in with a chance of winning a Premier League jersey of your choice, as you’ll be automatically entered into a draw upon registration:

What is ‘Draft’?

You may have played the Fantasy Premier League Draft before or perhaps Original Fantasy League – or neither.

Together with Fantrax, they’re all from the same family and start with the same premise.

At the beginning of the season, each of the managers in your mini-league will draft their 16-man squad from the pool of available players.

Where draft differs from regular FPL is that no two people in the same league can roster the same asset – so there will only be one manager with Mohamed Salah in their squad, one with Kevin De Bruyne, one with Jack Grealish. And so on.

The Draft Process

Above: The Scout team doing their draft preparation in pre-social distancing times

For anyone who hasn’t taken part in a draft before, it is a hugely entertaining and fiercely competitive event.

All the managers in a mini-league (FanTrax suggests 10-12 for optimum enjoyment) gather virtually to assemble their squads, with the draft taking place in a ‘snake’ format.

For example: if you’re drawn second in a 12-team mini-league draft, you’ll get second go in the opening round of picks but will have to go 11th in the next. That pattern repeats until everyone’s squad is filled.

Get your watchlist preparation in order, as your mini-league mates will soon be snaffling up the prized players at terrifying leg speeds. Trent Alexander-Arnold? Gone. Dominic Calvert-Lewin? Taken. Ollie Watkins? Just missed him.

Suddenly, you’ll have to think on your feet and draw upon your Fantasy nous – so you will need to know your Buendias from your Bissoumas on Draft Day to best your competitors.

The intense rivalry doesn’t stop there.

Once the season starts, you’ll be pitting your starting XI against a mini-league friend, family member or workmate every week in a head-to-head format.

And you’ll be able to tap into your potential to spot a differential throughout the campaign by dipping into the free agent pool, as you attempt to enlist the services of the next mid-season wonder like Raphinha or Ilkay Gundogan.

Why Fantrax over the others?

Fantasy Leagues on Fantrax Fantasy Basketball

In one word: customisation. You’re not tied to preset rules or a rigid scoring system with Fantrax and can shape your league in pretty much any way imaginable.

Want points rewarded for aerial duels won? Easy. Longing for successful crosses to be recognised by a Fantasy game? Done. Think successful take-ons should be as important as a clean sheet? Just point and click.

Or do you want to go back to basics with none of the above? Also fine.

Suddenly, the likes of N’Golo Kante and Wilfred Ndidi can become hot property having been a mere footnote in FPL.

The icing on the cake: if you’re coming from another draft service, Fantrax can import any of your current leagues and customise if needed.

Here are just some of the myriad other selling points for Fantrax over their competitors:

  • You are able to decide everything from roster sizes and how trades/ waiver claims are processed to when line-ups are locked for changes on match days – even which Premier League teams’ players feature in your league!
  • Squad make-ups are customisable: if you want to roster eight midfielders or trade a defender for a forward, the world is your oyster.
  • Live statistical data from Opta, which essentially means that anything that they report on, Fantrax can use. This means that the scoring system can be as complex or as simple as you like.
  • Trustworthy servers and real-time updates on the scores: as soon as a goal goes in, the points are there.

Which are the teams you trust to double/triple up right from the beginning of the season?

I don't pick players based on coverage, so the answer is simultaneously 'no team' and 'any team [that I happen to have 3 players from]'. The only trust I need is that they are not going to have a covid party.

      For defense, none.

For attack, just Villa since they are cheap. Bam-Rap double is not bad either.

As a team, I have triple from Brighton, double from Villa and Leeds, single from other teams.

Same logic as: isn't it better to own players from Top 4 teams. Well, not if the players are better value (in combination with the rest of the players).

You are forgetting I think that United will score 20 more goals this season thanks to Sancho, and concede 20 less thanks to Varane. Gotta have three United players

Reality check. If they concede 20 less they will concede 8 less than City last year.
If they score 20 more they score 10 more than City last year. Means United will run away with the title. Big smile.

my drafts have created these doubles/triples (not including 4.5 or cheaper players)

Liverpool - Salah, Trent, maybe Jota/Mané
Man U - Shaw, Cavani or Bruno, and/or Greenwood
      Leeds - Meslier, Raphinha
      City - Stones, Mahrez/Torres
      Villa - Grealish, Watkins

Sarrs obviously there because of his price and has a decent run of opening fixtures.
        He may do nothing though…

      Not bad at all.

Perhaps better with 1 mill less up top and more in midfield. Dubious about Sarr for anything more than very irregular returns. He looks to be the model of someone who will be the false early bandwagon. Haul in week 1 and then nothing for the next 6 weeks. That from memory is what he did last time.

      1. Galza
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 1 month ago

It seems like Sarr appears to be the weak link.
I can always switch to a 4-4-2 if the fixture favours a 4.5 def.

          Another option is ESR

He could be blinding value at 5.5 and otherwise a cheap mistake if not and Arteta does the Pep thing again. Unfair perhaps but the Ceballos bandwagon from a season or so back is what holds me back most.

I think I’d prefer to start with Sarr than ESR.
Easy out if ESR looks decent.

Sane - fixtures don't scream Arsenal from the off.

This is an unresolved question for me - what spots are the presumed transfer slots in my team? Think the 5th mid may be one so perhaps might take a swing there simply because I'm not expecting to hold long,

                Sarr’s fixtures are good.
I’d probably be looking at ESR from GW4 when Arsenal have a good run.

I myself tried Sarr in a couple of drafts, but I kept deciding that I needed to find an extra 0.5 for the like of Raphinha or Buendia who to me are safer long-term options.

          Yeah.

I've a strong inkling that both DCL and Bamford will be average this season.. could end up eating those words for sure though, especially with Bamford who is making a habit of shutting up the naysayers! DCL though I dunno, feel Carlo got the best out of him and he still had a poor second half of last season

The benefit being I can easily switch to one of the raft of 7.5s should I wish, than trying to scrape .5 from somewhere else to go up.

Had to check if it was in budget - a good sign!

Prefer Bachmann Foster combo if Lamptey is there but perhaps that is too negative of me. Mahrez could be anything of course but upside obvious. Marginally prefer Son in that slot and 1 mill less at back but given Spurs that may be off. My logic is that it will be easier to trade down than up.

      1. Jullepuu

Have looked at something similar and got the extra million by avoiding Digne.

Digne has been a nightmare for me. More rationally don't think those fixtures are that good at the start. Villa Brighton Leeds away in the first 5 is misleading if you look at colours. The worst 3 away games outside the top 6?

Cresswell - Coufal. Someone convince me one way or the other.

    Cresswell:
    > main set-piece taker
    > racks up bonus

    Coufal

    > 0.5 cheaper

I feel as a Creswell owner last season that him as a CB didn't really affect his points. still poured forward a few times, created well from set pieces, and the tackles, blocks and clearances he made at CB helped him get bonus as well.

I feel Cresswell over performed last season but both solid picks if WHU have another good season...I don't think they'll be as good though...Coufal of the two, attacking threat and the extra money can come in useful

I get the reasoning behind Pep Roulette but with so many well priced assets this season we can easily take a risk on at least one City asset surely? The best team in the league and their fixtures are decent!

that's what I mean by FFS GW1 blinkers...when they sober up after GW1 many will see that City have 3 home games in next 4 -Norwich, Arsenal and Soton - where they're easily capable of scoring a hatful of goals in and likely 3 CS!

You still have to guess which of the 7 attackers get a double return though... And then hope the nailed guy you omitted (with his gametime guaranteed before and after GW2) doesn't match the city asset you've managed to guess... And hope that city score 3 or more...

I totally get why people would avoid them

Totally get why people would try to guess Pep as well tbf, different strikes for different folks

People want to start season safely and avoid roulette at City & Chelsea - can't blame them especially when there is a lot of decent players to choose from in other teams.

Personally I can envisage Phil Foden becoming very important player for City this year and I may risk buying him from the start. Alternatively may go for Ferran Torres as at his price benchings will be easier to stomach.

With the Chelsea players all comes down to if they buy center forward or not ? If they do then I may get said forward or Mount, should Chelsea not manage to sign anybody then Havertz looks tempting albeit bit expensive.

agree...I really like Havertz and think he could be the main man up front this season...of course if the splash out on a striker that all changes...Torres could be the first player to rise 1.0 in price 😉

The amount of drafts on here is unreal full stop. Everyone will be getting in the Man City player who hauls in the Charity Shield due to FOMO, and that's without all the other transfers, injuries etc that will happen.

I get what you mean and I think people will end up with some Man City assets after the community shield. Although I have also seen people saying things like I won't start with such and such player, say Bruno for example as I won't be captaining him and he's too expensive to be sitting on my bench. On that logic will those people ever be confident enough to want to captain a City or Chelsea player?

      1. jia you
        • 10 Years

everyone has a different approach...if Chelsea don't buy a striker I'm planning on captaining Havertz in GW1 with or without Salah in my team (I know many would be unfortunately doing that)...I'm not going Bruno due to end of season form and fairly poor showing at Euros...prefer to put cheaper MUN attackers in for the early GWs at least

I agree with that, especially if Chelsea don't get a striker in Havertz looks that much better. Maybe my issue is I think too much in the big picture as I will say from the get go I would rather say a consistent points scorer in Grealish to start with than the more explosive Havertz. Cheaper Utd players could be great until european matches begin but personally I worry if Bruno starts off hot I'll be left behind but if you're right and he continues the way he finished it will be us that is left behind.

Face Maddison toward your front door then bend him over. This next part is important so read carefully - open your back door and go to the very edge of your property. Then run as fast as you can toward Maddison and kick him as far as you can. Then quickly shut the door.

He started in the top group, but I think now is most people's 4th or 5th choice striker.

At 7.5, I like Mount and Pepe
At 7, I like none, Barnes maybe.
At 6.5, I like Buendia and Raphinha. Trossard is also fine.
At 6, I prefer Gross. McNeil at EVE could be handy.

      Grealish
      Foden
      Barnes

Grealish was astonishly good last season and people have forgotten that on here it seems. Better Villa attack could even see better returns, Check them out.

Foden is more of a punt. But he will be a premium one day surely. If KdB is out early this could be the season he steps up.

Barnes is a risk with Leicester set up doubts. But he has improved season on season and was looking (and returning) brilliant when he went down midseason. 7.0? Seems all wrong to me.

Think Buendia and Watkins are more appealing for their price. Grealish at 8.0 is a tad steep when his role in the team to draw out defenders doesn’t really bring in too many points

I agree with your point of Grealish.
I do wonder whether he and Watkins are viable with their fixture turn after GW3.
        I personally have just Watkins.
