We assess the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) fallout of Jack Grealish‘s (£8.0m) move from Aston Villa to Manchester City in our latest Premium Members article.

Grealish was City’s first major signing of the summer transfer window on Thursday, joining the reigning champions on a six-year deal for a British record transfer fee of £100m.

The player said upon his move:

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City. City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club.

Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe. To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want.

The facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.â€

City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, added:

We are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome Jack Grealish to Manchester City. He is an incredible talent.

Jack’s development over the past few seasons both for club and country has been plain for everybody to see. His natural talent together with his commitment to improve as a player, has seen him become one of the most exciting attacking players in world football today.

I am certain that the fans are going to love seeing him in our team. Pep loves the way he plays, and we all feel he is an ideal fit for Manchester City. Our style and his style are a perfect match. I’m excited to watch him over the coming years.

A boyhood Villa fan, Grealish predominantly featured on the left side of attack in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 under Dean Smith, but what exactly will he bring to Pep Guardiola’s side, where does he fit in at City and where does it leave Villa’s assets?

We’ll attempt to answer those questions and assess his potential FPL worth in the article below.

Only subscribers can read the piece in full – sign up today and receive 20% off a full-year subscription.

PROFILE AND STATS

Grealish is a player with real natural ability and flair, especially when carrying the ball from deeper areas.

Statistically, he is one of the very best creators in the Premier League.

He was among the top three players for chances created in each of the last two seasons, while his total of 12 assists in 2020/21 was bettered only by Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m).

What’s more, he missed almost three months of the campaign due to a shin injury and hit those numbers while playing for the 11th-best team in the division.

2020/21’s top chance creators

In terms of goals, he is by no means prolific but has improved in recent seasons.

Grealish ended 2020/21 with six Premier League goals, averaging 0.18 expected goals (xG) per 90 minutes, while his total of 37 shots in the box ranked 21st amongst all midfielders.

It’s also worth noting that his dribbling ability often leads to the winning of free-kicks in dangerous areas. In fact, Grealish was the most fouled player in the final third of the pitch in both 2019/20 and 2020/21. That could be good news for Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m), who is City’s primary set-piece taker.

SEASON-BY-SEASON STATS

I think there was an option because mine didn’t auto-renew, and I seem to recall making that choice when I signed up.

The issue for me is when you have to opt out of auto-renew instead of opting in. Not sure if that’s the case on here but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.

Best thing to do is take out a monthly sub, then cancel it straight away that way it won’t auto renew

Personally I use Transfrmkt, fired & understat as much of not more than the members area here, so you’ll often find yourself saving weeks & weeks of subscriptions during times you don’t use the members area

Then if you really do need to use it, just take out another months sub & cancel again etc

You might be a cheapskate parasite, but we pay the damn subs. We've paid - the FFS team have coined it off us. After that greed sets in. Either it's free for all such as carpetbaggers like yourself and the ads/gambling product placement is justified, or we pay for articles on the free-to-enter fantasy premier league game and we get what we believed we were paying for.
Too hard to understand? I'm embarrassed for you.

731k in cash and assets from the last company return, up from 546k the previous year. It doesn't look like anyone is going hungry or struggling to pay bilss.

Seems Mark sold up or reliquished control in January 2019 so perhaps that is why there are more gambling promotions the last couple of years.

Just to be accurate here, there are not more gambling promotions now than previously. We actually worked with paddy Power for c.6 years in the past and had more presence/articles than recently.

So the reaction last year did come as a surprise. But we respect the community and are listening and actively working on ways to address concerns raised.

Appreciate the feedback Elfozzie. I dont really notice the gambling promotions too much myself as there are so many around sports websites and tv, I tend to zone out from them. At times feel like there are may be more, but pehaps it is because there is more variety of sponsors rather than from a single sponsor. As FFS and paddy power share a similar green colour scheme that may have made them a little more subtle previously.

Subscription doesn't really affect me as a non-subscriber, but a simple notification at the top of the page when the subscription is due for renewal may be a way of notifying if emails aren't read.

Hey guys. Just wanted to drop in to mention we did very clearly say last year on the sign up details that we were moving to a subscription model.

There is nothing dubious about this, it is the standard in the space (and most online services these days). We were one of the last to do it to be honest and we are still the best value (i.e. lowest price) in the space despite offering more than competitors and continuing to invest ever more in content, tools, etc.

Obviously you can cancel at any time if you don't like the service or don't want to support the site, but we'd love you to stay with us and help us keep improving!

It was on the sign up page and again the paypal/ stripe process. Happily take on board feedback here to see if we can make it clearer.
Tbh most people don't respond to mails (even when we send links to new features) so that's an inefficient way to communicate.
We're working on an update to profiles next so will see if we can make it clearer in there.
We do always listen to your comments, even if it sometimes takes a while to act on them (tech is hard!) so thanks for feedback.

Currently on Toney as my *risky* pick. Not a popular option, but around his price Chris Wood (7m) is a reliable pick and from news I gather is set to start the season and should has match fitness from the Olympics. Burnley fixtures aren't great, but Wood is one of those players that just ticks along isn't he?

So basically go with the masses and take the risk or go with the safety 1st option?

My mistake, I read something here saying it but see that's not the case.

As for your question, if you get Wood at the right time he could do really well, although I don't love their fixtures. I don't think they're bad but I also don't think they're good either

Mixed bag alright, which kind of sums up Woods as a pick. He will get you c.130pts and plod away, which for his price point is probably acceptable.

There are a lot more fails with promoted forwards than successes. Even Vardy never hit form until the tail end of the season when he got promoted

    Salah Bruno Son Buendia Harrison

    Foster | White Ayling Obafemi

I have both TAA and raphinha. To a certain extent he is, since he can score, assist, clean sheet, get bonus points. But if that extra 0.5 allow you to have raphinha, then i would say do it. Robbo can do the same job but at notch lower than TAA

          1. Thinkering like a Boss
            • 8 Years

Yeah. However, Raphinha more explosive than Harrison, and if he's not, could easily transfer to 6.5m mid (eg:Saka).

I think its got the right balance of risk vs reward. Greenwood could be an early differential. Im not a fan of Toney myself but most of the pundits have him, so what do I know, and theres next to no other optins at that price

    Friends,

    Meslier (4.0)
    TAA / Shaw / Coufal (White, 4.0)
    Salah / Bruno / Raphinha / Barnes / Buendía
    Bamford / Watkins (4.5)

Too crazy of me to keep Watkins? Would you bring in Ings for him? If so, how?

Interestingly Dean Smith has been talking about moving to a 3-5-2 with the arrival of Ings. I have Watking,Ings and Toney as a front 3.....think Villa will be a cracking attacking unit this season.....and that is as a Leeds fan.

The same Dean Smith that said Grealish should be back every week for 2 months?

Take that with a *Mahoosive* pinch of salt he doesn't have three high calibre centre backs (Kourtney Hause 😆 ), and 3-5-2 means he can only field 4 attacking players

He will likely revert to how he used Watkins at Brentford - out side, Bailey other side, Buendia central, Ings up top, then Luiz McGinn centre midfield

Basically he's almost certainly not dropping one of Luiz, McGinn, Buendia, Bailey, Watkins, Ings for a centre half - certainly not unless he's going into a game against city/pool/utd/Chelsea

        Martinez
        Cash, Mings, Konsa, Targett
        Luiz, McGinn
        Bailey, Buendia, Watkins
        Ings

Targett, Mings and Hause are perfectly capable centre backs

Tuanzebe could also be arriving from Man Utd on loan which would confirm to me the 3-5-2 intention

I still think MBP's suggested line up is more likely.

Ings hasn't been bought to warm the bench (at least until he pings) plus big money on Bailey and Buendia.

          2. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

Targett has literally never played a premier league game at centre back in 109 appearances

Tuanzebe is a 23 year old prospect who has made 19 premier league appearances, 5 of those at centre back

            Hause is dogshite

Moving from the tried & tested Cash-Mings-Konsa-Targett back 4 makes zero sense

Especially when it means he has to drop one of his front 6 of:

            McGinn-Luiz,
            Bailey, Buendia, Watkins
            Ings

    4-4-2

    Bachman
    TAA Shaw Digne White/Ayling
    Salah Fernandes Grealish Barnes
    Ings Wilson

    Foster Ayling Brownhill 4.5

The front line is a walking sickbed, but hopefully they can last until i get in Richarlison and/or Bamford. Barnes is my punt to start the season, but could easily become Bowen or Raphina if i want the extra 0.5

I like Robbo but the pool double up in defence isn't for me personally.
