Former Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town midfielder – and, it turns out, Fantasy Football Scout reader – Matt Holland joined Az over on our YouTube channel on Monday.

The Republic of Ireland international shares his love of, and frustration with, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in a half-hour chat with the FPL BlackBox co-host.

Matt talks about being part of a Fantasy-esque scoring system in the Charlton dressing room, discusses professional footballers playing FPL and reveals how he was instructed not make any changes to his squad despite being privy to early team news in the Premier League studios!

The Mark Sutherns devotee (who isn’t?) also chats about his Gameweek 1 set-up, FPL managerial style and commentating on games in which he’s rooting for Fantasy returns, before answering some questions from the Scout community.

Our huge thanks go to Matt for giving up his time and speaking to us.

It's certainly viable, but all things considered I think I'm still leaning on 'correcting' myself and getting Greenwood. Mbuemo and Lucas Moura are the other two, I'm trying to decide if there's an advantage in the cash saved.

Do you already have Benrahma? Him, Greenwood and Raph are the ones I’m looking at. I don’t trust Moura. Mbuemo looks good but I already have Toney and I’m not ready to commit to Brentford on that scale just yet!

    Sanchez

    TAA Shaw Tsimikas

    Bruno Salah Buendia Benrahma

    Antonio Ings Watkins

Roll. Looking at the CS odds, keep the defence as it is. Prefer an attacker over Cresswell. You may get him off the bench if Watkins isn't fit

        Cheers Tony

        Kind of my thinking.

Roll the transfer if you've no major changes needed. It's only one week in, better to bank the transfers for when there is more data imo.

Cresswell first sub is fine I think, Leicester could be a tricky game. If you want to play him, I'd bench Buendia or Watkins (probably the latter due to fitness issues).

Best Man City defender to bring in? Dias looked slow on the turn against Spurs and Cancelo looked more dangerous going forwards but the rotation fear is always there. Any ideas appreciated, cheers!

    1. Tonyawesome69
      • 7 Years

I would go with Stones. Laporte looking to move and Ake not good enough. Too much uncertainty with rotation in the FBs

Cancelo is frustrating, gets in great positions and certainly assist potential, but his finishing is poor. Dias is the safe option but I’d want some more attacking threat for the price. I’d wait for improvement in fixtures and then go Stones

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)

I like Stones. Great threat in the air and hopefully won't be rotated too much. Will likely move for him from Maguire when ManUtd's fixtures turn

Last season I had Stones and was happy if you are ok with the occasional benching. This season have gone with Dias but thinking I should have just picked Stones. I'd recommend Stones if you have a decent bench

If Gundo is out and you want a City player then Grealish is a good replacement. He should start

Tempted to do it this week. Although seems silly to lose Ings before good fixtures but I worry for how poor Villa were. My plan was always to do the move I just didn't know for sure if I'd wait until GW4 or not. Thing is I think I need to roll transfers for GW4 to give myself a good chance of dealing with possible missing players due to quarantine, and moving him in for Liverpool feels a little silly if I can do it for an Arsenal team that looks so poor so it'll either be this week or GW4.

Not sure what the question is. I would hold all 3 if you have them. If you want to bring in 1 of them then probably Greenwood but he is a short term pick. Cavani will return to training today. Greenwood may be guaranteed 1-2 starts until it becomes a concern

If Gundogan is out, which is better?

A- Play Ayling, keep Gundogan and use 2 FTs the week after
B- Gundogan > Alli or Moura
C- Gundgoan > Harrison or Raphinha
    D- Gundogan > Benrahma

    1. L4MPS117x
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 19 days ago

A - Nah, Gundo price likely to go down, and rotation may happen after Norwich game anyways.
B - Not terrible shouts although it's a wait and see for Spurs players other than Son, imo
      C - Can't go wrong with Leeds
D - Fantastic short term option although, always the fear the may switch to 5 at the back.

I have same dilemma. Best option for me is most likely to replace him with Greenwood, although do think that's potentially a short term move.

I think Gundo will go down in price so I will likely shift him out.

Do you think bringing in Sarr, benching him for 2 weeks and playing him once fixtures swing? That would mean playing both Veltman and Ayling for the next 2 which i'm not completely against but I fear Greenwood could punish me...

I am in a similar situation, either Barnes > Greenwood this week, or Mahrez > Son next week.

      Very much 50/50 right now

Assume holding a transfer here makes sense? Always done too many moves before so want to be more patient this year, wanting confirmation!

    Raya
    Trent Shaw Coufal
    Salah Bruno Jota Greenwood Sarr
    DCL Toney

Ayling first sub seems okay, with Jota not nailed.

Hold transfer possibly needing to deal with Jota/Greenwood in near future?

    What does everyone think?

Kneejerk Barnes to Greenwood? (can afford a straight swap as I have 0.5 ITB)

I didn't watch the Leicester match but heard he had a quiet game, but Greenwood looked sharp.

Only downside is I was keeping the 0.5 so I could do a Mahrez to Son move in 2 transfers next week..........

    Thoughts?

      Hold the transfer.

I have Greenwood as thought there’d be early returns, but I’m already thinking of exit strategy. If you buy him now, you’ll have a week less of him as a guaranteed starter, and potentially two transfers used signing and selling him within a few weeks.

Especially as you have an easy way to Son, which I would love to have!

If Gundo confirmed out should I replace him for a hit or play one of Ayling or White instead and shift Gundo out next week?

Sounds like what you're asking is what scores more:

      A) Ayling (EVE)
      B) Greenwood (sot) -4
      C) Benrahma (LEI) -4

My worry is that CTY are likely to get medieval with NOR so some investment is necessary. Not sure who though. Possibly Mahrez.

Not enough funds to secure Mahrez. Can only get Torres or Bernardo and neither is assured a start.

Barnes to Benrahma or hold the FT? I already have Antonio and I think getting Benrahma in now is chasing points. Team is all set otherwise.

    Thanks.

Hi littleb, I'm thinking the exact same ..Having Antonio as the only WH attacker is no benefit due to ownership , also I feel Barnes will be taken off at 70 mins and he maybe a player we should get later on in the season when back to fitness Also if Leicester move to 442 , his place might be at risk

Yes this is a concern for me too. I can see Iheanacho starting with Vardy at some point so there will be no place for Barnes.

Hi Jafal, yes I just worry we keep him for Norwich and he gets benched and then we keep him and then when we do get rid of him ,he starts scoring I'm thinking of getting rid now as Benhrama looks nailed for moment or perhaps Sarr or even Raphinia , who will come good and we will want for longer term

In the event that Gundo will be out, who would you be thinking of getting in as a replacement for the same price or less?
I currently also hold Sal/Fer/Barnes/Brownhill in midfield.
    Fwds are Toney/Ings/Wilson.
I’m already rueing a lack of Hammers in my attack…

I’m looking at someone 6.5 and below to create some money for son the following week.

Traore, Benny and Raph at the top of my list. Wanted Raphinha before the whole news about isolating, which makes me nervous.

I have Gundo and Greenwood. I also have Vardy on purpose. My thought has been to pic up Luku in GW 3 with 2 FT. Now with Gundo's injury, my thoughts have been answered on who to drop. For Luku, I will need an extra mil to do so. Thinking Benrhama this GW with back to back Home fixtures in GW 2 & 3. This move will free up 1.5 itb for Luku in GW 3. Benrhama has also been on form through out pre-season.
