Gameweek 37 finally comes to its conclusion this evening as Arsenal take on Sunderland at the Emirates. Tonight’s match remains crucial for both sides. The Gunners need a win to clinch third and potentially allow Arsene Wenger to rotate at home to West Brom on Sunday ahead of the FA Cup final, whilst Sunderland need a point to seal their survival for another season.

Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at United saw all of their big-hitters fail to deliver the goods in the first match of the double. Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey were afforded significant investment prior to the deadline and their new batch of owners will be desperate for the Gunners to turn on the style. All four start this evening, although Arsene Wenger does make two changes – Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs come in for Francis Coquelin and Nacho Monreal. Laurent Koscielny is fit to start in central defence, despite a recent flu virus scare.

Sunderland arrive on a four-match unbeaten run, though, and have conceded more than a single goal just once in seven matches under Dick Advocaat. Can the Black Cats record a third straight shut-out for the first time this term and reward owners of Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt again? The Black Cats make just one change – Adam Johnson starts on the flank as Liam Bridcutt misses out through injury.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    PvA - success
    Pantilimon - success
    Sanchez (C) - fail
    Cazorla - fail
    Koscielny - success

Decent GW...I think 40 pts going into the last GW should wrap up my ML.

Aguero the safe choice, Benteke or Hazard alternatives - or punt on the likes of Gomis/Ulloa/Vardy/Lukaku if looking to climb the ranks

    Current BPS : Koscielay 36 Bellerin 36 Gibbs 31 Mertesacker 31 Pantilimon 30
Pantilimon was stand out MOTM but looks to get nothing - is that likely to change?

Looked at your team...not sure how you count that as a +17. You'd been better off making one FT for PVA. Do that, play Schmeichel, Hazard and McShane and you have 76 points, not 71. Basically, two of your moves got you 0 and the Panti move got you +7, so spending 12 for 7 gets you -5.

Not that I care, but was trying to figure out how your team could have ended up +17 by taking 3 hits. Not nearly enough points scored for that to occur.

          They deserve it.

Had a chance to send Sunderland down too and didn't bother turning up.

We could end up having the greatest escape and the greatest capitulation in Premier League relegation history both in the same season.

      What would Yoda do?

      Krul
      Bellerin - Jagielka - Terry - Kolarov
      Haz (C) - Özil - Silva
      Kane - Kun - Giroud

      Panti, Bolasie, Morgan, Albrighton

Costa/Lukaku for Giroud? Some other, perhaps more brilliant, move?

I'd wager Özil is most likely to be rested. Unfortunately, Bellerin has a fair chance to get rest too. Cazorla and Giroud maybe the 3rd 4th in line despite their importance to the team play.

Rosicky and Walcott could both start, may be their final home game for the club.

              Just speculating but:
              Walcott in for Giroud
              Rosicky in for Ozil/Cazorla
Coquelin in for Wilshere/Ramsey/Cazorla (could even see Flamini for one of those 3)
              Chambers in for Bellerin
              Gabriel in for Mert/Kosc

Wouldn't expect all these changes but individually each change is possible. Heck, even Diaby isn't flagged 😯

i think he said it assuming they would have won today

even with a minimal chance of coming 4th (united might score 4-5 and they lose ) he would field mostly a strong team imo

ManU actually has to win by 6 unless Arsenal manages to lose by 2 or more at home against the weakest attack of the league at the moment.

Maybe I still wouldn't take that risk if I was Wenger.

Maybe, but even if he said that expecting a win vs Sunderland he couldn't have assumed any points against Utd.

What are you talking about? Assuming a win against SUN and losing at Old Trafford, they would only be 2 points ahead of ManU, and would need a win against WBA to secure the 3rd place.

That's my point, he couldn't have assumed any points against Utd so talking about rotation before that game must have been regardless of whether 3rd place was secured.

They will get blown out of the water by a rampant Chelsea.

Sunderland have clawed their way to two 0-0 draws in 4 days and are safe. The amount of mental and physical energy they will have used up this week is considerable and there will be no escaping the relief of having achieved what they needed. Everything is against them and it doesn't matter.

Chelsea, on the other hand, will be in front of their own fans in a carnival atmosphere prior to the PL trophy presentation. If they don't score at least 4 I'll eat Paddy Ashdown's hat. 😉

Costa often takes a few games to get match fitness after a break, he's one of those that needs to be playing every week. If you want a Chelsea punt, think about Willian.

Personally I'd go for B with Gomis or possibly Austin.
