Sky Sports Focus – Fantasy Football Scout League Details

As we mentioned yesterday, the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game is now up and running ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

After winning top spot in the League of Leagues for the past three seasons, we’re looking to defend our crown once again and hope to make it four times running this year.

For those playing the Sky Sports game, we’ve set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league – the name is FFScout and the pin number to join is 8009000.

Last season, we handed over a cool £1,000 to the Fantasy manager who finished at the summit of the Scout league and hope to offer prizes once again this year – which should be incentive enough to assemble a team and get involved.

Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out Player Price List analysis articles, breaking down the options position by position and offering insight into each player’s potential.

Once the season gets underway, we’ll be bringing you hints and tips in our weekly Friday afternoon “Sky Sports Focus” articles, analysing the market trends and looking at transfer tactics for the Gameweek ahead.

Our regular contributor d1sable will again be at the helm to offer his expert advice – he’ll be looking for yet another top 100 finish after a storming end to the previous campaign.

We’ve set up a new community article to exclusively deal with Sky Sports Fantasy teams. Those looking to get involved with the discussion should click this link.

RMT with a superstar front 3!

    Schmeichel - Hamer

    Azpi - Alderweireld - OShea - Mings - STaylor

    Ozil - Henderson - Chadli - Ritchie - Wanyama

    Aguero - Costa - Rooney

it works. serious points from the front. the big problem i see is ozil. that 8.5 slot . . . . . of all the 8.5's is mata not the best? other mids are all grand and worth wait and see. defence is solid and i dont give a toss about gks

As expected with this fromt three, one of your other positions is lacking heavily. In this case its the midfield.

GW1 Henderson + Chadli + Alde have tough fixtures and Kun may be unfit after copa america.

        Forwards should rate 3/2

This way of scoring out of 10 doesn't work at all. Why are the same amount of marks available for 1 playing keeper as 3 playing forwards?

I can't find hazard or fabregas anywhere in your midfield?

You'd be better of with a 433 or 523. Lots of quality defenders with a higher PPG then mid-priced midfielders.

    Ruddy - Butland
    Ivanovic - Coates - Williams - Francis - Whittaker
    Hazard - Cazorla - Depay - Ritchie - Wanyama
    Pelle - Aguero - Deeney

now its costa then go aguero when fit
if Depay a huge risk, i change to mata or eriksen

criticize dis as hard as u can 😀

When you need it, imo. I don't like fixing myself to a WC if things are going well. However, the change of rules certainly favours an early WC, possibly in the international break.

  11. Promoted attackers
    NOMONEY
    • 8 Years
    8 years, 9 months ago

For those interested as to how key attacking players performed in promoted teams before and after getting promotion, here are some stats:
    --------------------------------------------------
    Leicester (1st in championship 2013/14):
David Nugent - 20 league goals 12 assists
Jamie Vardy - 16 league goals 10 assists
Leonardo Ulloa - 14 league goals 4 assists (*playing for Brighton)

Leicester (14th in premier league 2014/15):
David Nugent - 5 league goals 2 assists
Jamie Vardy - 5 league goals 12 assists
Leonardo Ulloa - 11 league goals 4 assists
    --------------------------------------------------
    Burnley (2nd in championship 2013/14):
Danny Ings - 21 league goals 6 assists
Sam Vokes - 20 league goals 4 assists
George Boyd - 2 league goals 2 assists

Burnley (19th in premier league 2014/15):
Danny Ings - 11 league goals 4 assists
Sam Vokes - 0 league goals 0 assists
George Boyd - 5 league goals 2 assists
    --------------------------------------------------
    QPR (4th in championship 2013/14):
Charlie Austin - 17 league goals 3 assists
Bobby Zamora - 4 league goals 4 assists
Matt Philips - 3 league goals 2 assists
Leory Fer - 3 league goals 2 assists (*playing for Norwich)

QPR (20th in premier league 2014/15):
Charlie Austin - 18 league goals 5 assists
Bobby Zamora - 3 league goals 4 assists
Matt Philips - 3 league goals 8 assists
Leory Fer - 6 league goals 4 assists
    --------------------------------------------------

So this might be helpful if you are planning to bring in attackers from the promoted sides (e.g. Wilson, Deeney, Ighalo). As expected, results show that most of them will not be able to maintain their goals and assists records in the premier league. Although there are exceptions like Austin, it will be interesting to see if we can find a someone similar this season! Lets hope so..

Austin really was a bit special in terms of promoted strikers.

If you can find the next Austin early on then you're onto a winner! Looks like that will be a struggle though. At least fixtures are kind,

I think it's very unlikely to find someone as productive as Austin in one of the promoted sides. A drop-off is to be expected. But still, if the likes of Deeney or Ritchie produce a total of (goals)+(assists) around 15 it's great value.

P.S. George Boyd played for Hull in 13/14, so his production shouldn't compare like the others

The following players from promoted teams were among the top ten highest scorers in the championship that season:

Charlie Adam (Blackpool 2010): 16 in Championship, 12 in Premier League.
Andy Carroll (Newcastle 2010): 17 in Championship, 11 in 19 matches in Premier League before his injury and transfer.
Kevin Nolan (Newcastle 2010): 17 in Championship, 12 in Premier League.
Grant Holt (Norwich 2011): 21 in Championship, 15 in Premier League.
Adel Taarabt (QPR 2011): 19 in Championship, 2 in Premier League.
Scott Sinclair (Swansea 2011): 19 in Championship, 8 in Premier League.
Rickie Lambert (Southampton 2012): 27 in Championship, 15 in Premier League.
Glenn Murray (Crystal Palace 2013): 30 in Championship, 1 in Premier League.
Danny Ings (Burnley 2014): 21 in Championship, 11 in Premier League.
David Nugent (Leicester 2014): 20 in Championship, 5 in Premier League.
Sam Vokes (Burnley 2014): 20 in Championship, 0 in Premier League.
Charlie Austin (QPR 2014): 17 in Championship, 18 in Premier League.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester 2014): 16 in Championship, 5 in Premier League.
Troy Deeney (Watford 2015): 21 in Championship.
Callum Wilson (Bournemouth 2015): 19 in Championship.
Odion Ighalo (Watford 2015): 20 in Championship.
Cameron Jerome (Norwich 2015): 18 in Championship.

I haven't checked how many assists they got, or looked at players who were not in the top ten Championship goal-scorers, but you can see from the above that 7 out of 13 players promoted in the years 2010-14 scored more than 10 premier league goals the following season. The average player in this set scored 20 goals in the Championship and 8.8 goals in the Premier League.

Charlie Austin was exceptional, but Bournemouth and Watford are the highest scoring teams promoted in the last six years, so it is quite possible that one of the promoted strikers might be the next Charlie Austin or Andy Carroll.

I think it has to be taken into account how they did in the seasons leading up to their promotion season as the numbers from their respective promotion seasons could be misleading due to the great team effort it takes to gain promotion.

For example, Austin scored 16, 25, 17 in his last three seasons before entering the Prem. He followed that with 18 goals in the BPL. Vokes, on the other hand, was a disaster waiting to happen as he had 3, 4, 20. His 20 goal season was, as you can see, a freak season.

Now let's put the promotion assets from last season with at least 10 goals in their promotion season into a table. I'll only count goals to make it as simple as possible, so it might be a little misleading:

      Charlie Austin:
      16, 25, 17 (prom), 18 (prem)
      Sam Vokes:
      3, 4, 20 (prom), 0 (prem)
      Danny Ings:
      3, 3, 21 (prom), 11 (prem)
      David Nugent:
      15, 14, 20 (prom), 5 (prem)
      Jamie Vardy:
      *, 4, 16 (prom), 5 (prem)
      Leonardo Ulloa:
      **, 9, 14 (Brighton), 11 (prem)

      * Vardy played in the Conference up until the 2012/2013 season.
** Ulloa played in La Liga up until the 2012/2013 season.

As we can see, Austin who had a record of scoring goals over many seasons managed to deliever in the Premier League as well, while players like Vokes, Ings and Vardy who only scored 15+ in their promotion season dipped off (though Ings did fairly well). Ulloa never delievered extremely high numbers, and remained at his level in the Premiership aswell. The only one who doesn't quite fit the system is Nugent, but given he had 34 BPL games under his belt where he only managed to score 3 goals, he was always going to be a risk.

Now let's see how the most popular promotion assets of last season did in their two preceeding seasons aswell:

      Troy Deeney:
      19, 24, 21 (prom)
      Matt Ritchie:
      3 (L1), 9, 15 (prom)
      Callum Wilson:
      1 (L1), 21 (L1), 20 (prom)
      Cameron Jerome:
      3 (BPL), 2 (BPL), 18 (prom)

So by the looks of my numbers Deeney will be my pick of the bunch, and be 'the next Austin' if you will. The other three comes with a huge risk, though IMO Ritchie is the second best option as he has done well in both his Championship-seasons and is on set pieces. Wilson played in League One just two seasons ago, and although he has great numbers from his last two seasons I feel like he could easily be failing to take the step. Jerome is a light version of Nugent. I won't be fooled.

Hi everyone! I've only joined Fantasy PL last year but I already feel how addictive it is. Last year I played just to have some laughs with the guys at work but this year I want to win my mini league.

Based on last year's experience but mostly on the wisdom shared on FFS, I came up with the team below and I'm curious what you guys think of my plan.

      GK
Ruddy / Butland - because 9.0m and decent rotation

      DEF
      Iva / Morgan / Coates / Francis / Ward
chances for points even if Chelsea concede
good rotation and are v likely to start unless injured
I picked Coates over O'Shea bc he now has less ownership so it is more likely he will keep value Ward I don't know so much about but a comment here made me consider him.

      MID
      Haz / Wallcot / Mata / Hendo / Fletcher
Eden is one of my favorite football players atm
Walcott I dont trust so much but I'm hoping to upgrade him to Sanchez as soon as fit and I find a decent cheap 4th MID to replace Mata or Hendo
I really don't like Mata but I think it's good to have a MU MID and the rest don't seem as nailed or PL ready
Hendo is a player I like, good with points last season and pretty good with set pieces also
Fletcher is just to keep value as too many people own Wanyama

      FWD
      Rooney / Lukaku / Wilson
Wayne will be my captain for the first 3 GW and I'd like to replace him with Kun after this.
Lukaku is what I believe you guys call a "punt" - I think he kills Watford. Will probably change him as soon as possible after.
Wilson - I like his Championship stats

1.5m ITB to help get Kun

Sorry for the long post. What do you guys think? Any better option from MU other than Mata?

To include Aguero, Hazard, Rooney and Ivanovic in my team, I needed to find 4 x 4.5M defenders who rotate. Is there any better out there than Leicester-Sunderland-Norwich-Bournemouth rotation?

Thinking Morgan/Huth, Bassong, O'shea/Coates and Francis. Here's their fixtures when rotated from gw 1-10:

SUN AVL, NOR sun, STK SWA, LEI avl, BOU AVL, SUN bou, stk whu, WAT LEI, new wba, WBA NEW.

    Not too shabby, eh?

I think Van Gaal will play 4-3-3, but in that Mata's best chance of starting is on the right-wing. Hope he picks Schneiderlin-Schweinsteiger-Herrera in midfield. Maybe Carrick rotating with the former two at times

Di Maria staying muddies the waters though, when he returns from injury.

If you look at the above, there's more or less a consensus on 4-3-3 with Mata-Rooney-Depay as the front three.

Luckily Stoke away is not in my FPL-mind just yet 😉 Depay is set as a MID, but might play as an attacker. I'm tempted to play him the first six GW. It'll be interesting to se who will be the set-pieces. I've to check the stats of him a bit more, set-pieces vs open play goals.

It is tempting, so many options in that bracket though. Would require me going without Chelsea or Arsenal (or downgrading Rooney/Ivan).

LVG said he wanted to ease him into the first team and not throw him in right away. Things might change during the summer but i can't see him starting 100% right now.

    Thoughts?

    Schmei/Hamer
    Terry/Cedric/Richards/PVA/R-Bennett
    Fab/Silva/Walcott/Ritchie/Hoolahan
    Costa/Rooney/Deeney

First round 3-4-3 with Hool, PVA and Bennett on the bench.

Pending on pre-season indications if Walcott isn't going to play up front then I'll probably swap him for Deepay or Mata, Rooney -> Giroud and terry->Azi to free up funds for Fab-> Hazard
