SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING
Share:

In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

SeasonGoalsAssistsBonus
2010-112012
2009-106217

Quite a significant difference then, let’s see what the OPTA stats show …

SeasonTouchesSucc Pass Opp HalfGoal AttemptsOn TargetPenalties ScoredEverton Goals
2010-111024 45812 5 013
2009-101094 4841612 225

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING thinks the world is just one huge maths puzzle waiting to be solved.

I honestly dont see how this makes sense, utd have kept 5 cs and have leaked goals even with Rio back.A cole has a better chance of scoring or assisting than any utd defender and with just 2 more games before essien gets back Chelsea will sort it out.I personally wont spend transfers swaping defenders unless they WON'T play but there seems to be a lot of vidic love and i just don't see why

I chose Kolarov over Vidic (mainly due to price mind!).
Not keen on Utd defence. I think he's getting all the love due to Alex injury and people having to make the change.

6 of Cole's 8 Clean sheets have come at the Bridge.
For the next 5 gameweeks Chelsea have 3 away and 2 home of which they are all against solid opposition.

I don't like their clean sheet chances especially without Terry and Alex who are going to be sidelined for a while. Their defense was all over the place with Ferreira and Ivan at the back.

I think most of those tansfers are chasing points. I think it's weird that Elmo and Brunt have been recommended to be traded in. One might not be selected and the other is injured! Scholes should not be near anyone's fantasy team either.

That site can sometimes be dead on and sometimes completely off. Brunt is out for sure then? I have Elmo but so wary of rotation I need to get rid. However, I have already made my transfers and need to bring in a keeper on a four point hit to replace one of my two who are out...

Yea lots of chasing points going on this week , not a good strategy , the games never work out as expected , especially this season , they can all beat each other.
Too many short term moves leads to problems , instead of cleaning out the worst player too many managers are just swapping between good ones based on a decent next fixture. Then when injuries and bans come along suddenly they realise their teams are full of dross

Would anyone mind terribly commenting on my current wc team. Cheers in advance.

    Gordon/ Krul
    Vidic, Kolarov, Krgiakos (Simpson, Bardsley)
    VDV, Nani, Fab, Bale (Albrighton)
    Rooney, Carrol, Gyan

I only plan to pick Rooney if we get a strong indication that he will play at least half an hour.

Krgiakos > Samba in 2 weeks time
Gyan > RVP once he has a couple of starts.

0.3mill in the bank after those moves.

    Any comments?

I know that people advise against doubling up on teams (ie spurs), but I would only agree with that if I planned to rotate my players. I prefer to have a definite stating 11 and cheap (but capable) emergency stand ins.

You're right of course. But I would be much happier about going ahead with the team if I had got some positive responses! I might do Jarvis instead of Bale and upgrade krul to jaask and kryiakos to Jagielka. Any idea what I could do with the .6 mill I would have left over? With that I could fit Torres over Rooney. But I do like the idea of a Rooney gamble! Decisions, decisions. I will probably change my mind a million miles before the deadline tomorrow.

I don't like the 2 spurs. The goalkeepers should be Gordon + Jaask.
Jagielka is a no-no for me, get Coleman. Jarvis is a good call.
I think Rooney is a gamble but if you feel lucky - go for it. 🙂

        Cheers for the feedback.
I know that spurs have tough fixtures, but I'm thinking that the two lads look fixture proof. I could get Jarvis and Cahill and look to get the spurs lads in later, but I already have a couple of trades planned (RVP and Samba).
Gyan would only be a stop gap until RVP starts firing. I considered the bolton two but I really don't see them scoring that many against us and man city.
Kyriakos is just a 2 game stop gap until Samba's fixture look sweet. Could do Cahill but worried about lack of clean sheets.
Sunderland have the 3rd highest number of clean sheets, and great fixtures. Newcastle would be cheap emergency fill-ins (and have kept 4 clean sheets).

I had 3 chelsea before the wild card. How many weeks can I give Drogba and Malouda "just one more week"? I'm sure they will have big scores between now and the end of the season but not big enough to justify the massive premium you have to pay over say Rooney or Nani. And their fixtures absolutely stink.

I've already pulled the trigger. Means it would make no sense to have drogba in my wc team as I would lose a load. Currently got Gyan and Elmander sitting in there as I was hoping to get a couple of rises before I fix my team tomorrow. Still hoping. The thing is, I don't regret getting rid of drogba one bit. A fully fit, fully firing drogba in an on form Chelsea team is definitely undroppable. But when was the last time you could say that about him?

    Current team:

    Bosingwa elmo Coleman (Dann Simpson)
    VDV nani fabs malouda (arteta)
    drog carroll varney

Got xtra free transfer so I need to make at least one change but I could also make three changes for 4 point hit

    Arteta > Albrighton
    Simpson > Vidic
    Elmo > Kolarov

should I do them all or just Elmo > Kolarov ?
Also, should I bench Arteta or Varney?

Adam - "I am a wee bit sore and stiff in the knee, but I should be OK for Saturday."

Gerrard - "It certainly looks like a significant hamstring injury. He's going to be out for a little while, I'm afraid. I'd imagine it could be three to four weeks."

    Hi All

Thoughts on the following transfers for a 4-point hit?

    Drogba ---> Berbatov
    Adam ---> Nani

A little concerned at having no Man Utd players in my side, given their next run of 3 game weeks

Due a goal is always a dangerous statement. I saw Arteta's first half against Arsenal last week and if he plays that way (deep, never shooting, never anywhere near a goal) he is no more likely to score than Jagielka.

Depends on what you bought Elmo for and how keen you are not to lose money. If you bought him at 4.5, he can drop 0.1 and you still make 0.3 profit on him. How good or bad is the rest of your defence? Do you maybe want to sit on Elmo a little longer just in case he plays?

True but keeping him gives you an idea of what Bruce is planning to do. If Elmo plays, you'd want him right? We just can't know if he will play until the match on Monday.

To be fair, I'm getting rid of him but I'm wild carding and I don't want too many risky players (keeping Coleman and bringing in Kolarov). If I wasn't wild carding, I'd be playing the wait and see game with Elmo.
