SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING
Share:

In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

SeasonGoalsAssistsBonus
2010-112012
2009-106217

Quite a significant difference then, let’s see what the OPTA stats show …

SeasonTouchesSucc Pass Opp HalfGoal AttemptsOn TargetPenalties ScoredEverton Goals
2010-111024 45812 5 013
2009-101094 4841612 225

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING thinks the world is just one huge maths puzzle waiting to be solved.

Anyone remember how's Robert Pires doing at FPL away back then?
I think he got double-double at goal & assist in his prime years so it must be tons of point a season from him.

How about him joining Astin Villa, still valuable pick if his price is around 5-5.5?

Has to be Toure. I dont understand the interest in Kolarov myself. I think one person mentioned it and then everyone jumped on board not wanting to be left behind.

Mancini has been rotating the left back all season between boateng, kolarov and Bridge. He has even had Zabaletta and Boyata playing left back.

I would stay away from every City defender apart from Kolo.

I thought the reason kolarov hasn't been playing is cos he was injured. surely this is why the lb position has been rotated? didn't they pay something like 22m for him?

Anyone who has actually bothered to do some research will know that Kolorov will be clear number one . His absense has been a big reason why Mancini has had to change his tactics from those he will of wanted to use.
He wants Kolorov bombing up the wing

Impossible to say without seeing the rest of your team. Why don't you link it (see FAQ). Based on the info you have given above, Dempsey because he is at home. Of the other three, I can't see any of them keeping a clean sheet.

The MF choice is tricky and not one I'd want to have to make. If Wigan score at Man U, N'Zog will probably be involved. BennyB89 is correct below on the basis of some City matches but not all. Defensive choice is OK despite them all being away.

Advice for the future: You can't play all that top eight. Scale down Dempsey or N'zogbia to someone you basically keep on the bench and improve your defence with the extra cash.

Dempsey faces a a City side that often play 8/9 defenders. I think Fulham will find it difficult to score against City.

N'Zogbia is fantasy league gold. He always rakes in the bonus points and is at the pinnacle of any attacking move that Wigan thread together. United have been notoriously shaky at the back this season.

      For me, its Zog.

Carson is at home to Stoke. Playing Green would be a gamble. It's neither stupid or smart, it's a punt which is very difficult to advise on. Will Gerrard's absence mean that Liverpool won't score? Who is more likely to keep a clean sheet? Carson or Green? If you think Stoke will score at West Brom, perhaps Green in goal might be an idea.

I am having to move JT and Adam (wolves) out this week, wanted to bring Nani into my midfield, however this leaves me with £5.5M for a defender. I was contemplating Ridgewell (BIR) however there defensive run looks to be on the decline.
Is this a good punt, based on the remainder of my defense being rather cheap?
Should I go with a better defender and a cheaper midfield replacement to even it out more?

Not especially, but he's got to come good eventually. Who would you bring in instead? Have Nani Fabregas Adam and N'Zogbia already

You obviously don't want VDV. Coming good eventually isn't a great reason to get him. Waiting for that time has been painful to many lately. Haven't looked at midfield opinions as my team is injured plaqued.

Maybe I'm not the first to think of this, but there are a couple of ideas to think about around the second wildcard.

I expect we'll all be wildcarding in gw27. It wouldn't make much sense to use it before you have to, or before your rivals do, and then you might as well use it, otherwise you lose it.

That means we'll all be wildcarding at the same time. The site's going to go mental, not only in selecting your wildcard team, but in playing the money market. So, I expect there'll be a lot of speculation about which players to buy and sell on the basis of transfers and their implications, but also on prospective risers and fallers.

But I'm also thinking there's an opportunity to co-ordinate the buying and selling behaviour of thousands of site visitors, or at least all those that want to play that game.

lol! yeh this site is going to be crazy

I wonder if it will be beneficial to play your 'January Wild Card' in one gameweek and ONLY get players who have a good chance of scoring big that week and then the week after immediantly using your 'Season Wild Card' to change your team into something which will do well for the rest of the season.

Could easily be a low scoring week when you use the January WC. A DGW would be a better time.

my theory on selling drogba is simple

i wouldnt even think about captaning him in his next 6 games, therefore 13.1m is far too much to have tied up in a player

seems simple to me, anyone care to agree or disagree?

i will have 9.1m to spend on a striker for the next 3 weeks before i switch to torres, who would u go for?

        im thinking gyan or berbatov?

Berbatov is a terrible idea. He may get benched after recent performances/roon returning. Gyan looks very good. I wonder how bent's return will effect the team though? Cannot see Bruce playing 2 strikers and cannot see him changing a winning side. Also, cannot see Bent not starting!

i do think bent will be sub monday tho

plus i expect gyan to maybe rise by 0.4 over the next 3 games

yeh as i want to upgrade brunt to nani

sounds reasonable, but who to get in for him? Maybe Torres, but he has't hit form yet constantly, Rooney might need a couple of weeks as well as RVP. So the only option is Tevez, whom you have already. That leaves you with a Sunderland, Bolton forward or Carroll. I think none of them will outscore Drogs. Sure, you will have more money to do Brunt>Nani but that's too much money in the midfield for my thinking...

See what ur saying in a way but if he bags a couple at the weekend and looks fit again which is more than feasible then he would be a captain choice again the week after.

Personally, losing all Chelsea players off the back of a couple of results is FF suicide IMO, still the best side in the league.

the plan was always drogba to torres and bosingwa to konchesky for that gwk, liverpools fixtures are just too good from there to turn down and they run into wildcard period so i can easily shift them out after
