SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING
Share:

In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

SeasonGoalsAssistsBonus
2010-112012
2009-106217

Quite a significant difference then, let’s see what the OPTA stats show …

SeasonTouchesSucc Pass Opp HalfGoal AttemptsOn TargetPenalties ScoredEverton Goals
2010-111024 45812 5 013
2009-101094 4841612 225

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING thinks the world is just one huge maths puzzle waiting to be solved.

    Few questions:

    Any news on Hart?

Is Bardsley (SUN) secured a spot in starting lineup?

Who would you prefer Jarvis or Lee for the next five-ish games?

Is the Bolton defence worth investing in?

      Hi

      - No idea on Hart, think I read that he's winning his fitness race though. But not sure

      - Think Bardsley has a safe starting spot, he's had a few decent games.

      - Lee

      - No, they leak heavily although Cahill might get you a goal at some stage

Yeah agreed. I have had Jask since the start but not really playing him much since his red card.

You have to think their d will tighten up though. Looks alright on paper...

They might get it together sooner or later.

I wouldn't blame anyone if they had a punt, but Owen Coyle strikes me as a manager who rather wins 3-2 than 1-0.

I've said it before but I'd love a 'Time to Get Rid....' feature. Obviously it's all opinion but the aim would be to suggest a good time to get rid of a player so that profit is maximised with relative certainty that points will drop and thus price too. Mummy is the current example where this could happen.

Only swap could be Elmander for Nolan, but I would say your team looks good for this week.

I also have Hernandez and think this might be his last week unless he does something special. With Roo about to come back it feels like Little Pea's time on the pitch is about to drop big time...

I think Wilson will start, but will probably get booked early on and Sandro will inevitably replace him in the second half.

I think Sandro will be an excellent player someday. Not quite there yet, and this game may be too soon/big for him to start in.

Either that or Jenas will play. Eeuuurrrgh.

if elmo doesn't play against everton i think it's time to panic. the 2 games he's missed were tough away games, the everton game is back at home. also this season zenden has generally come in and played against the better opposition, just not at elmo's expense until these last 2 games when sunderland switched to 4-4-2. elmo was always going to be that little bit more unsecure in a 4-4-2 simply as there are the same number of players fighting for less places in midfield.

Ferdinand is injury-prone and a limited FPL player - goals and bonus points are a rarity etc.

Cahill is Everton's key player at present - Sunderland may yet yield a blank for him but Everton have two nice home games v WBA and Wigan soon.

Elmander is in red-hot form and could be trusted to score more consistently than Tevez who plays for just the most unpredicable team in the league at present. I am very interested in Balotelli when he comes back though.

          Id rather Drogba over Tevez.

Besides the top 3 games away to Fulham and Stoke on current form are tight looking low scoring affairs.

Odds are Chelsea will create more and score more.

i definitely want to do piquionne to elmander. i was going to do cahill to nani but brunts injury means i want rid of him

i just think its time to ditch drogba for a few weeks, its a gamble but people said i was mad getting rid of malouda weeks ago

You werent mad getting rid of Malouda.

Loads of us did it. Losing Drogba is much different I think.

Chelsea will score and score well. City we all have doubts about now.

    A. Malouda, Elmo to Nani, Kolarov/Ferdinand (4 pt hit)
    B. Arteta to Nani (no hit)
Leaning toward A cause I want to give Arteta one more week and I don’t see Elmo getting back in his side anytime soon.

A simple A/B answer would suffice!

    Good evening all...

With a defence made up by

    Krul / Foster

Konchesky / Jose Enrique / Cashley / Elmo / Touré

And money to burn from Malouda sale - where is a transfer best spent?

Bringing in a ManU defender for Elmo seems the obvious way to go. But would I in fact be better off bringing Foster out for a keeper w kinder fixtures? Such as Jussi.

I've got Berbatov in my team, think it's worth keeping him for easy fixtures or getting rid of him for either K Davies or Gyan?

Is a tough call indeed. I can't stand his inconsistency but if he's ever going to knock in a few goals, fair chance it'll be next few games. Big IF though. He could as easily do sweet FA.

Don't even know if he'll start, that's the problem, Fergie might go with Chicarito and Rooney, or even Macheda..

yeah, only so long he can get a game when not scoring - even with saf's love for the berb.

              I also need Nani in..

              So it's either:

              a) Malouda > Nani

              or b) Nolan > Nani and Berbatov > Davies/Gyan (4 point hit)

              ??

Neither. I'm still convinced Drogba will come good.

Chelsea aren't suddenly going to become this terrible team. All it takes is one good hammering. Maybe this weekend at Birmingham 4-0, and everyone will want their players back.

Current team, got one free transfer:

    Givet OShea Elmo (Simpson, Alex)
    VDV Nani(c) Fabs Adam (NZog)
    Carroll Tevez Drogs

Obviously defence is a joke, which option is best?
Alex to A) Bosingwa B) Kolarov C) Cahill
    D) Alex and OShea out for two of the three (4pt hit)

Or something else, defence in urgent need of repair!

I've stuck with Harper thru his injury and just played Foster the whole time, and aside from losing 0.2m on Harper, it's worked out pretty well.

Just did Malouda to Nani, and made Nani captain.

I have 3.6m in the bank, but I don't fancy a 4-point hit this week.
