SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING
Share:

In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

SeasonGoalsAssistsBonus
2010-112012
2009-106217

Quite a significant difference then, let’s see what the OPTA stats show …

SeasonTouchesSucc Pass Opp HalfGoal AttemptsOn TargetPenalties ScoredEverton Goals
2010-111024 45812 5 013
2009-101094 4841612 225

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING thinks the world is just one huge maths puzzle waiting to be solved.

    Gordon
    Bosingwa Coleman Konchesky Carr
    Fabregas Bale Nani(c)
    Carroll Tevez Drogba

    Bench: Hahnemann N’Zogbia Elmohamady Adam

Seem ok? Perhaps I should play N'Zog instead of Carr?

Hey guys, this keeps getting lost in old pages, i have to make a decision tonight. So what you guys think of the below transfers?

    Option a:
    Elmohamady - vidic
    Malouda - cahill
    Piquinne - elmander

    Option b:
    Elmo - rio
    Malouda - nzogbia
    Piq - tevez

I like option b, with a look at getting rooney in a few weeks for tevez

Please have a look at my team and let me know what you guys think!

    Cool 🙂

He is actually one of Arsenal's best players this season.

Very consistent, and now that he's playing in a forward role and on set pieces, he's definitely worth considering.

His last 4 points have been a blip. He shared those bad results with Fabregas, and came on for 1 min in the game second to last.

I thought you might have been persecuted about it! 🙂 A bit of positive news from Fergie tomorrow and I'll be binning Drogba for him. Berbs has gone right off the boil and for all of Little Pea's endeavour he's not hitting the back of the net.

It was going to be Torres but I have a big bias here; and Gerrard's injury will restrict that supply a hell of a lot from midfield.

Hey guys, just joined this website so first post here. Am playing my first full season (even though I've watched for 12 years) and have bets with two friends.

    Here's my team :
    Foster, Krul
    Coleman, Clichy, Zhirkov, Boateng, Salcido
Arshavin, Arteta, Nani, Adam, Ben Arfa
    Torres, Chamakh, Dembele

So quite a few injured/ out of form. Trouble is I've already stupidly played one wild card. However, been on this site for last two gameweeks and I think it might give me an advantage to read the articles and comments here, track fixtures, etc. So I wonder if I should just play my 2nd wildcard and then carefully make transfers here on in. Or just stick to two transfers and take a -4 hit. In which case I was thinking Dembele -> Elmander and EITHER Foster -> Gordon or Salcido -> Knight. What do you guys think? Play the wildcard or not?

Definitely Dembele to Elmander but I wouldn't bother with any more now. You can put a decent full defence out and you'll have to take a punt on the keeper this weekend. No need to take a hit in my opinion.

There is obviously a lot to do but you can plan it over the next few weeks, gradually transferring injured players out.

You can bench the two injured players you have in DF and MF this week plus one other (more difficult to choose but a defender)

the only wolves player you want is milijas, not a fancy-dan winger who does nothing until the match is essentially over!

i have to disagree with arteta (for the moment) love the guy in previous seasons but so far this time round he's been relying on BPs. I mean 13 games gone, not 1 assist, what the hell.

Yes, I got him in a few weeks back but he's done owt since.

My problem is whether to take him out this week for Jarvis or give him one last hurrah on Monday night. I feel like I need some Monday night representation and I can't rely on Elmo to start or make any meaningful contribution.

However, Arteta to Jarvis (who I think is going to be a huge differential over the next 6 weeks) gives me plenty of cash to bring in Vidic this week.

Arteta really is too much money for what you get at the moment.

Have 2 transfers. Struggling to decide, best options (I think):

    A) Berbatov, O'Shea -> Elmander, Vidic
    B) O'Shea, Mummy -> Cahill, Coleman

    Cheers.

brought this up 2 weeks ago about my rival with 4 top end defenders on his team.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=1496097&event=12

while now he is sitting at 20th in the world
beats me by a wee bit.

noticed 4 of the top 5 in the game have at least 2 top defenders

I do like a good serb'd up defence as much as the next guy but think id prefer to wait and maybe do 2 transfers next week, depending how Rooney does this weekend. (que major Kolorov points haul)

I play nzogs every week because wigan heavily depend on him and he racks up the bonus points on a bad day,lee is a gamble that may work because he has the ability and 'fixtures' but for me I will always choose the Zogbia....oh and I put fixtures in inverted commas because I don't believe in chasing them.A lot of people are benching Nzogs because he is playing utd but utd have been leaking goals and Nzogs I believe can score on any team
