Robin Van Persie’s stock continues to rise. The Dutchman’s form that’s brought him 6 goals in his last 5 league outings has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership rise dramatically, while his price has now climbed from 9.5 to 10.0 over those 5 Gameweeks. He’s on everyone’s Watchlist, part of everyone’s Wildcard plans.

Outstanding form isn’t the only factor behind his popularity. Arsenal boast a run of opponents in the coming Gameweeks that look set to provide Van Persie with ample opportunity to keep the goals, assists and FPL Bonus Points flowing at pace. A double fixture in Gameweek 27, with both Wolves and Stoke poised to arrive at the Emirates, is without doubt the main draw. However, there’s one major caveat that needs to be considered that, up until now, may have gone unnoticed.

With Arsenal about to restart their Champions League campaign with a titanic tie against Barcelona, Arsene Wenger must surely be considering his rest and rotation options – Van Persie looks to be particularly vulnerable. This directly threatens the striker’s potential for the double in Gameweek 27.

Arsenal are due to host Barcelona in the first leg of their tie on Wednesday February 16. They, like Spurs, play their tie one week earlier than United and Chelsea who face their opponents on February 22 and 23 – this could prove to be a crucial factor.

While United and Chelsea have their FA Cup tie prior to Champions League involvement, Arsenal’s clash with Barcelona falls directly in between their double Gameweek fixtures. Significantly it follows the first match, a home clash with Wolves, by 4 days. The question is then, will Wenger rest and rotate for the Wolves game with Barcelona in mind?

With Samir Nasri sidelined, we should expect the creative promptings of Cesc Fabregas to be untouchable. He may well be withdrawn early should Arsenal establish a lead, but would seem a likely starter against Wolves. The same can’t be said of Van Persie.

Wenger has viable alternatives available – Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner are straining at the leash – the former has proved himself a reliable scorer and a capable foil for Arsenal’s surges from midfield; Bendtner meanwhile has taken his recent opportunities reasonably well, a fine strike in the FA Cup win over Ipswich was particularly memorable. Chamakh has started a league game since Gameweek 20, that 2-2 draw at Wigan was also the last time Bendtner earned a starting berth. Wenger may just look to hand them an opportunity when Wolves pay a visit to kick-off Gameweek 27. At the very least we should expect one of them to impact on Van Persie’s pitch time.

So, while Van Persie continues to climb in popularity and price, those yet to place their investment should ponder the possibility that the striker faces a trip to Newcastle this weekend and could then be reduced to a cameo role against Wolves. That would leave a home clash with Stoke in Arsenal’s second Gameweek 27 fixture; following that, the Gunners currently have a blank with the trip to Spurs yet to be rescheduled.

When you consider that this could mean a possible two-and-half matches over the next 4 Gameweeks, suddenly, Van Persie’s seemingly irresistible potential takes a dent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm keeping RVP either way, will just not risk it to captain him. Fabregas will get that honor for the double.

I agree, he's looking a good enough long term pick for me not to worry about him only playing one game in one gameweek.

          2 X Fab =3 most other players
1X RVP =3 most other players

But in a DGW, Wenger will always rotate his squad. . . especially given that there's a vital Champions' League Match and an FA cup tie in between, and the Carling Cup final after.

So it's likely that either Fabregas and RVP will be partially rested. I doubt they'd play more than 90 minutes between the 2 fixtures.

Of course that's more than enough time for them to bag a lot of points.

In need of differentials in midfield to catch up in my mini league. Think over the next 6 gameweeks I'm going to bring Young and Bentley in, to support Nani, Fabs and Adam.

What do people think of these 2 choices?

If Zigic is going to start more now after scoring I can see the potential link with Bentley, just like it used to be with Santa Cruz.

Young seems obvious if he remains primary penalty taker ahead of Bent.

Not keen on putting in players on a WC team who won't have a game the following week (GK excepted).

I'm using the WC in GW27 to build up the nucleus of a team for the remaining run in, not just chasing DGW points.

I want as few transfers as possible so I can save some rather than having to immediately spend points taking out non GW playing players in GW28.

I suspect that they both will feature quite a bit.

Arsenal have Barcelona in the midst of that DGW, so it's likely that RVP will be rested for one, if not both of the games in the DGW. . . seeing as they're against Wolves and Stoke.

Also the week after they'll have the League Cup Final. . .

Rival brought him in, and as per usual, I didn't heed the number 1 rule of fantasy football, don't laugh at you're opponents transfers until the gameweek is OVER, first day of the season, I saw Harewood and Baptiste, and laughed, "Ha! Blackpool players! Just cause their cheap, doesn't mean they will score", ouch on that one, then I was thinking, "what a silly week to bring in Koscielny, Everton will definitely score, ha, what an idiot" cue Kocielny goal.

I originally had these fears about RVP but having seen him start in the Carling Cup and seen the form of Bendtner/Chamakh, I am reasonably confident he will actually start all Prem games now. Wenger cannot afford to take anymore risks and he is finally realising this.

It seems strange to assume Wenger will rest players. I remember last season before the second leg he chose to bench both nasri & bendtner @ home to wolves and almost regretted it.

The most sensible thing to do would be start RVP, get a couple up before 60 mins & then choose to rest whoever he chooses.

At least i hope he takes this approach!!

Am nearly clicking the wildcard button now. I think having those 2 transfers in GW28 could be extremely helpful.

    Foster Gordon

    Rafael Coleman Djourou Kelly Kolarov

    Adam VDV Cahill Fabregas Nani

    Tevez RVP Odemwingie

With Odemwingie possibly injured I'd have Cahill as first sub, although if I don't hear anything from Moyes before Saturday I may get A.Young instead. Still gives me 7 doubles and as long as theres no injuries the following week I'd have 2 free transfers for GW28.

fixtures indicate they should, but my rival has one too and knowing his luck, it will be like Richard Dunne against EVERY team last year, everytime I thought "oh, bad week to play Dunne!", they kept a clean sheet and Dunne got 3 goals 2 assists and 3 BP's per game, jammy-ness is hard to stomach in this game sometimes.

About the post, its a really intresting opinion about RVP having more rotation risk than Fabs.

    Foster, Begovic
    Kelly, Coleman, RJohnson, ShawX, Walker
    Adam, VDV, Nani, Fab, ???
    Tevez, RVP, Bent.

    7m to spend

Obviously the same issues as everyone else in getting from GW27 - 28, but I also have my other WC in reserve so I'm just looking to set-up a side to get to GW 32/33 then WC again for the run-in.

I was going to go with Etherington but his recent record looks worrying for a WC choice. Anything I'm missing?

Cheers, the problem with that is Bentley definitely missing GW28 whereas Ethers would be home to WBA and I'm thinking that may be worth the lesser DGW. Is Djourou sure of playing all those matches as well, at least Johnson looks a lock and i don't want to be taking too many risks with the likes of Kelly and walker there.

What has happened to Kevin Foley recently? A month ago was a regular 90 mins even bagged a few goals and now nothing. Is he benched, injured or had a bust up with Mick? As I got him in at 3.9m, and as I already have Simpson only have the choice of Elokobi, Stearman or Higgenbottom as a replacement. What should I do?

Not spoiled for choice then, have a look in the Injuries and Bans on this site to check to see his status, if he is not injured, it is safe to say he has fallen out of favour.

As to your options, Higginbotham is only deputising for Shawcross in his absence due to suspension, so I would not go for him, Stearman and Elokobi have a DGW coming up but they are two away games, so I wouldn't be pushed.

In the absence of freeing up some funds to upgrade him to Djourou or Carr or the likes, there are not many better options bar Jara for Brom, I would say try and free up some cash and get in Djourou or Carr though

he is playing deeper yes, and Dorrans has been in a more free-role position, that being said, Brunt hit the woodwork twice in this week, and has been unlucky not to score, not convinced his form proves him worthy of a spot over Bentley (!), Etherington in my team

he is playing deeper, which is more or less the same thing really. SuperDorrans is the resident Brom expert on here, but that was the gist of what he has been saying about Brunt. He prefers Dorrans when he is fit at the moment.

No, don't wildcard now. Wait until GW27. Its only less than 3 days away now.

You’ve waited this long so why go and do something rash now?

Plus, there are Internationals next week so injuries are bound to occur. Players without the wildcard may well have to end up spending points transferring out injured players. You’ll be able to do it for free.

I just checked and looks like you haven't pressed the button yet.

I've heard this 'save 2 transfers for GW 28' argument several times.

Exactly what will you do with those 2 freebies? Bearing in mind you won't have 2 free transfers in GW29.

Tp me anyway, isn't it better to set your WC team so you only need to make 1 change in GW28 and, if necessary, revert back again to your GW27 player in GW29?

I get a feeling with this crucial stage of the season, most of the top club's players will have minor "niggles" following the weekend and will be unavailable for the Friendly games, proper order too, it is insane in the membrane to be having friendly matches just as the European competitions are about to kick in

    Hangeland - Vidic - Nelsen
VDV - Adam - Nani - Yaya Toure (flu permitting)
    Berbs - Tevez (c) - Campbell

Subs: Foster - Dempsey - Skrtel - Evatt

One free transfer this week. I'm thinking Evatt -> Dawson or Coleman. Any thoughts? Cheers.

Why's that, because he's turned into a complete clown?

Yeah Hart has been bad for weeks now, really bad. So recent news from this afternoon suggest that Hart will be dropped which is very likely, Given must be really eager to prove himself and he's a top class goalkeeper!
