Robin Van Persie’s stock continues to rise. The Dutchman’s form that’s brought him 6 goals in his last 5 league outings has seen his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership rise dramatically, while his price has now climbed from 9.5 to 10.0 over those 5 Gameweeks. He’s on everyone’s Watchlist, part of everyone’s Wildcard plans.

Outstanding form isn’t the only factor behind his popularity. Arsenal boast a run of opponents in the coming Gameweeks that look set to provide Van Persie with ample opportunity to keep the goals, assists and FPL Bonus Points flowing at pace. A double fixture in Gameweek 27, with both Wolves and Stoke poised to arrive at the Emirates, is without doubt the main draw. However, there’s one major caveat that needs to be considered that, up until now, may have gone unnoticed.

With Arsenal about to restart their Champions League campaign with a titanic tie against Barcelona, Arsene Wenger must surely be considering his rest and rotation options – Van Persie looks to be particularly vulnerable. This directly threatens the striker’s potential for the double in Gameweek 27.

Arsenal are due to host Barcelona in the first leg of their tie on Wednesday February 16. They, like Spurs, play their tie one week earlier than United and Chelsea who face their opponents on February 22 and 23 – this could prove to be a crucial factor.

While United and Chelsea have their FA Cup tie prior to Champions League involvement, Arsenal’s clash with Barcelona falls directly in between their double Gameweek fixtures. Significantly it follows the first match, a home clash with Wolves, by 4 days. The question is then, will Wenger rest and rotate for the Wolves game with Barcelona in mind?

With Samir Nasri sidelined, we should expect the creative promptings of Cesc Fabregas to be untouchable. He may well be withdrawn early should Arsenal establish a lead, but would seem a likely starter against Wolves. The same can’t be said of Van Persie.

Wenger has viable alternatives available – Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner are straining at the leash – the former has proved himself a reliable scorer and a capable foil for Arsenal’s surges from midfield; Bendtner meanwhile has taken his recent opportunities reasonably well, a fine strike in the FA Cup win over Ipswich was particularly memorable. Chamakh has started a league game since Gameweek 20, that 2-2 draw at Wigan was also the last time Bendtner earned a starting berth. Wenger may just look to hand them an opportunity when Wolves pay a visit to kick-off Gameweek 27. At the very least we should expect one of them to impact on Van Persie’s pitch time.

So, while Van Persie continues to climb in popularity and price, those yet to place their investment should ponder the possibility that the striker faces a trip to Newcastle this weekend and could then be reduced to a cameo role against Wolves. That would leave a home clash with Stoke in Arsenal’s second Gameweek 27 fixture; following that, the Gunners currently have a blank with the trip to Spurs yet to be rescheduled.

When you consider that this could mean a possible two-and-half matches over the next 4 Gameweeks, suddenly, Van Persie’s seemingly irresistible potential takes a dent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which three dfenders to play this week out of Rafael, Coleman, Hangeland, Djourou and Walker?

    Coleman - OOP
Walker - Home game against FUL
Hangeland - Away against a newly resurgent Bent but goal threat.
Rafael - Away but against poor opponents
Djourou - Away but against opponents who have lost their two main scorers.

Following on from what's discussed above, i still have 2 WCs and I see the idea of using one on 27 to go nuts for DGW players then use one 28 to be able to field a team for 28 so that means for 28 u take out Arsenal and Spurs players etc but surely u would want them back in the again the week after so it doesn't really work.

That's the bugger. But you can still field 11 players and have Szceczerrs, Fabregas and RVP on the bench like me. 🙂

If I had both that's what I'd be doing as you don't have to take out all your Arsenal and Spurs players in gameweek 28. Just enough to get 11 or 12 players to play that week.

I'd play the first now and save a transfer next week. Use your freebie in GW 28 (ie VdV>Cahill,..) to be able to field 11.

I'd use the second WC when Chelsea players are required, around GW 31/32. think about it...

How much do people think that Rooney's haul last night was down to a retun to form and how much can it be attributed to Richard Dunne having one of his all too often cr@p games?

Bit of A bit of B. I'm wary now of clutching at straws that this and that player are 'back'. Too many false dawns this season. However he did look good, personally though I'm going without him considering his fixtures.

        Tend to agree.

Whilst both Rooney's goals were well taken - showing a degree of form - they were both down to there being absolutely no defensive pressure on him.

Interestingly the second was a carbon copy of the Rooney Valencia link-up goals last season, but Nani doesn't often go out there and provide that kind of service to him.

It might be that the goals give him the confidence to attack the ball more and get into the box to score goals, but unless Fergie tinkers with his system getting Berbatov to drop deeper then Rooney will still find himself creating for Berb more than scoring himself.

Nani has put a few very nice crosses in this season, and I think he's as good a crosser of a ball as Valencia.

The problem is that Rooney doesn't know whether he'll cross, or dribble, or cut back inside and shoot - with Valencia, he knew the cross would come in at the first opportunity, so could take up a position to receive the cross.

You have the nail on the head regarding Rooney's knowledge of what he is going to do.

As I said, Nani doesn't OFTEN provide that service to him, which means making the runs into the box, more often than not, won't work for him.

I think that was still the case even on Tuesday. Chalkboards reveal more shots for Nani and Berbatov than for Rooney. Rooney just able to finish his as there was no pressure on the ball (still that gives no excuse for Berb's sitter).

I know, and he has a good record vs West Ham 'n all. Arteta's complete lack of form (and probably fitness) is the major problem this season. We just aren't creating enough proper chances just set-pieces or offside goals

But apart from Cahill its hard to pick. You cant really rely on glasslegs Saha. Though to be fair he is looking sharper. Bily is well, not the best in terms of FPL, Fellaini wont get you points, Arteta is not the beast he formerly was.

If bonus points were awarded for actually being among the best players on the pitch then Fellaini would be worth a punt, but as it is Baines, Coleman and Cahill are the only options.

Nice post, this is one of the main reasons why it was better to play the WC in GW 24. Then it was easy to maximize on Man and Liv players, now it is not that easy. I expected Fabs to be rested and Nasri to play in play maker role in one of the games, that is why I held on him so long but he is gone injured. To bad I think he would got a huge points over the double. Now its wait and see. I thinks that RVP need only 20 min appearance and he will do the business.

You lost at least 30pts (and potentially a lot more) in GW24 by not using it then. I doubt very much you'll regain those points in which ever week you use it, all the GW24 wildcarders will have many of the players you choose to bring in, unless you go for risky differntials. You should have played it in GW24

Nope, WC is still much more useful now. 12 point hit was sufficient for GW 24 whereas GWs 27 and 28 are a complete clusterf~ck and need some serious transfers to get the right balance.

        Agreed.

Everyone scored big in GW24 and most of the players on here who didn't wildcard that week made their transfers several weeks in advance to stock up on DGW talent.

People who loaded their teams with guys for that GW are going to have a lot of Fulham, Liverpool and Blackpool players that they probably are going to want to start shifting out in the coming weeks.

Adam is only Bpool player you want. A lot of people got 3 Bpool players though, unnecessary overkill which they probably will want to rectify soon.

People also got Stockdale with wildcard. Funny thing is a lot of them have Hart too and could be left with no GK this weekend. If that happens I'll laugh my big black ass off!!

Liv have a few more decent games, I addressed that in a previous post.

As somebody said to me re: Kakuta
It's in nobodies interest for him not to play. Villa took him on loan to play. Spurs sent him out on loan so he'd get games. He could've happily stayed at QPR for the rest of the season. Nailed on perhaps not but considering he's been straight in when fit I'd think so.

Small piece recently highlighting him as a differential. I am definately considering him. Only thing is if you check out the chalkboards he is averaging only one shot per match with Gerrard in the team, so if he is to justify his price he's got to be very clinical with his shooting.

    Foster Begovic
Simpson Coleman R Johnson Djourou Huth

Have to use this team for gwk 26 and 27 so will have 2 transfers for 28.

Is it really worth getting Foster in for the DGW? His point scoring has been dire for a while now and they don't have a fixture GW28. I got in Reina for the last 3 weeks but now want to get rid for someone who i'll have for the rest of the season, who would you recommend, Friedel, Gomes, other?

I've got Djourou but i am tempeted at doing:
        Reina - Szczeney
        Djourou - Kelly

Seems pointless but i have 2 free transfers and it would give me a lot of extra money in the bank.

I'm not bothered about their cleansheets in the last 10, I'm bothered about cleansheets in their next 10.

Besides is 9.8 really that high?

Fixtures over the next 6 are
BLP, WOL&STK, SUN, new&BIR, FUL, BLA

Two double gameweeks and the rest are tasty. I'm happy.

So looking to get Tevez in for the nice game at home.

Coming around to the idea of losing Berbatov. Not that I doubt him this week but the fixtures to come aint great. Chelsea will surely also have to beat Everton 7 times out of 10 so that means Uniteds Double goes by the wayside. Id also have benched him week 27, will just bench tevez instead of wasting 2 transfers to move tevez in and out.
And the money saved (about 5mil) and one more free transfer (saved instead of doing odem - tevez - odem again week 27) means I can get Tim Cahill in and whoever for Barry Ferguson & Stockdale come tricky week 28 with no hits

    So Tevez in for Berba?

        🙂

Ya i couldnt lose him with Villa at home but looking at the fixtures bar Wigan away id say i 2 United (Vidic, Nani) is the most I need until week 30.
So prob can leave it as is hopefully and reassess then which fits nicely around time Chelsea come back on horizon week 31ish.

Nah dont fancy Dzeko. Tevez all the way. Pens and Bps are easily worth the extra dosh.

At stamford bridge with some confidence you would have to back Chelsea to win.

Il basically if i make the Berba to Tevez this week need to be confident of this happening or elsea il lose Berba for his double.

            Ah ok, well commiserations firstly.
            There are a number of things you can do;
Ultimate Team - online tournaments etc if you like swapping stickers or being ripped off then this is the place to be. It's not bad to be fair.
Live League - not downloaded it so I dunno

Tons of stuff really, I spend most of the time on the Virtual Pro stuff. There is a FFScout team for PS3, I'm a def mid, Greg and Akers strikers, Hodge and Soup or Man on the wings, Hunter S Thompson attacking mid, Jamsiep being generally useless anywhere but where he should be.

It's good crack you should round up a few x-boxers and set up a similar team

I've only just got the PS3. I've been playing 11 on my Xbox up until now, so I haven't got a virtual pro yet. Greg will no doubt want me to get my stats up forst before I get anywhere near the team.

My pro on the Xbox was CM though.

Unless of course there is some way to transfer xbox stats over to your Ps3 account?

Naa anyone is welcome to play. Build yourself up whilst playing, whatever. I was crap to begin with whilst playing with the quality that once was Akers.

We lack (Decent) CM's 😉 Whats your PSN? I'll add you.

And also I don't think so.

Wow. 15k at start of GW. Forgot to do any transfers/subs. Left Gordon in goal against Chelsea. Left Nasri on (injured) and... Left Rooney(C)!

Now sitting at 6k with 2 free transfers for next GW and 2 WC to use.

    Nasri-> ?
    DJ Cambell -> ?

    for GW26?

Maybe Nasri to Young and DJ to Odem? You're in a great position with the 2 WCs left, guessing you'll be getting some Arse coverage with your GW27 WC.

Yes, probably Djourou/Fabs/RVP come GW27 WC.

Not massively sold on Young this week or any tbh. I'd probably prefer Cahill over him, if he's back & playing this weekend.

Don't really fancy Odemwingie this week either against MCY (After watching the WBA-WIG game, he didn't do much apart from the early goal) although I'll probably bring him in for GW27 for his double.

Anyone else hang on to Kolarov then? Lovely little refresh on the phone. Blackpool 1-3 West Ham (Last I had heard it was 1-0) then scrolled down and see that Kolarov scored and then a little more to see that Adam had scored. Doesn't beat the N'Zogbia Nani N'Zogbia goals though in the bbc sport refresh earlier in the season, that was superb.

Looking for a second Birmingham player for their kind run (apart from the blank GW). Foster is in for the season, so don't want to double-up on a defender, especially as the defence isn't quite so secure with Dann missing. Looking at Ferguson and Bentley from the midfield, also wondering about a gamble on Obafeme Martins up front rather than Zigic or Jerome. In the end I may well go with the lad Gardner, who is now on pens....any thoughts?

There's mids and forwards at other clubs who are far more regular scorers than Brum. Gardner, being on penalties, or maybe a Bentley punt are the only ones I'd vaguely consider, but there are a lot of mids who are more desirable. Defence or nothing for Brum players.

A word of caution re Cahill - I've noticed that players who go off to the African Nations Cup for a month every other year tend to be less effective on their return, so there is a chance the same may apply to him. It may not, but there is a gamble imo....

No-one seems to have pointed out that Gary Neville lobbied for the England football team to go on strike over Rio's blatant drug test breach. Utterly disgraceful. And I've always had zero respect for players that run to the other end of the pitch to taunt the opposition.

I think that it what the military would call a "measured response" to the atrocity that is Gary Neville.

Could really do with all these fixtures sorting themselves out so we all know where we are.

      Hmmmm

Bringing in Luiz this early seems a touch rotationaly risky to me as I have no clue where/when he will slot in.

Also, unless Simpson is necessary due to budget constraints I don't like it.

I didn't watch much, but Kingson must have been bad against West Ham no?

Your thoughts on my below WC team please.

Also, it may be important to know I play on a month to month H2H for specialty beers and this really is my first year ever following any type of futbol outside of the last two world cups. 104.5 to work with and below team leaves me with 0.8 in bank.

    Szczesny (Begovic)

    Huth/Hutton/Kelly/R.Johsnon/Rafael

    Malouda/Brunt/Adam/Fabs/Nani

    Tevez/Berbatov/Odemwinge

My thoughts are that I’m not going crazy on DGWers, can field 11 decent players for week 28 a few of wich are DGWers, and I can get Cahill in for the Malouda spot by GW29 and will have 1 more transfer to use in there in case of epic failure.

    Thank You

Hmmm I can slot in V. Persie for Berbs leaving me with 0.1 in bank?

Also, why doesn't he put his whole last name on the back of his kit?
