This double Gameweek conundrum has had us in its grip. Its wicked little game, complicated by an evil blank for three teams in Gameweek 28 has “twisted our melons” and left us firing questions into the ether in vain hope that clarity would show itself. Everything is still blurry.

We’ve done our best over the past few days to bring you a breakdown of the options available, laced with our opinion on the best routes to take. Our “Scouting the Doubles” articles will close tonight with West Brom completing the set of eight. Those, together with Andy’s Captain Poll article and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differentials” (coming tomorrow), not to mention this week’s ScoutCast, complete possibly the most thorough analysis of teams and players we’ve cobbled together prior to a Gameweek deadline.

You now add the Scout Picks to the mix, although, in the light of this week’s coverage, I’m not about to cover the same ground with more player-by-player analysis, re-affirming the facts, stats and speculation. I won’t leave you hanging high and dry either though.

Selecting a Scout Pick lineup in a double Gameweek scenario is never easy. The obvious candidates stand out like Nikola Zigic at a Jimmy Krankie convention – you can’t ignore them and they’re always likely to use their size once the cling flim comes off the buffet.

Only one non-double Gameweek player finds his way into the lineup . Liverpool’s quest for their fifth clean sheet has them host the woefully inconsistent Wigan at Anfield and that’s a good enough prospect for me to snatch one of their defence. Even this was far from cut and dry. With Martin Kelly a slight injury doubt, I was forced to opt for Glen Johnson – a more expensive, but equally expansive option who can offer defensive and attacking returns.

Elsewhere, the familiar lack of clean sheet potential made it difficult to look beyond even the flimsiest double Gameweek prospects.

Michael Dawson and Gonzalo Jara get the nod because the prospect of 4 appearance points outweigh the option of hoping for a clean sheet from the United defence without Rio Ferdinand against rivals City, or perhaps backing Chris Samba at home to Newcastle.

Jara looks every inch like fools gold, but today’s appointment of Roy Hodgson pushed me to take a gamble on the Baggies rearguard for at least their second home clash with rivals Wolves. You never know, Jara may even return that assist that his OPTA stats appear to threaten.

In midfield the selection was made more difficult by the blank in Gameweek 28 – do I consider the problems this causes or simply select those who offer the best returns?

The strategy is always to select the top scorers for the Gameweek, so Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon, Birmingham’s Craig Gardner and of course, Cesc Fabregas all earn their place. Charlie Adam, edges out West Brom’s Chris Brunt to the bench despite the yellow card sword of Damocles hanging over him.

Kevin Nolan is nowhere to be seen – I’ve left him at home staring at his Andy Carroll scrapbook. Ashley Young? Yeah, tempted, but I’ll leave him rewinding his bit against Denmark on Sky plus. Villa and Young should return at Blackpool though.

Talking of which, Darren Bent almost made it in up front. In the end the obvious silken skills of Robin Van Persie and the pacey menace of Peter Odemwingie, has them on the bus and in the team.

The aforementioned Nikola Zigic gets the bench spot – provided he takes off those stupid school shorts and cap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Begovic and Foster in goal.

Foster, play this week for the double then you have Begovic for the brum missing fixture next week (He has a nice one btw) and then Foster again for the Double in 29. After that their fixtures rotate fairly well.

In defence you should look at a city, utd, and Liverpool defender. My choices being Evra Kolarov and Kelly. Then look at perhaps Huth for this week? Or Shawcross as the cheaper alternative. Then bench fodder, or get Jara who is perfect this week and can sit on your bench cheap as chips for the rest of the season.

In midfield it is a minefield. Nani is somewhat essential, then you have VDV who I would get rid of this week if I was on wildcard possibly for Lennon or other such persons. Adam is a must this week regardless of the 9 bookings. And then Walcott as a possible differential or Fabregas. Fill the last spot with a cheapo who has a double this week and then a fixture next week. Wolves midfield I would look at.

Up Top the compulsory RVP Odem Tevez should do. Or if you can't afford or want a cheeky punt, get Vela instead of Odem....

        Hope this helps.

        P.S RBJ, I'm making a point. lol. 😉

Wouldn't be so sure about that United defender. Not great upcoming fixtures. If you do go for one either spend the little extra on Vidic or save the cash and go Rafael.

+1, Rafael or Vidic for me. Vidic for possible goals and baps, Rafael for assists (the majority of Utd's attacks come down the right, and Rafael overlaps Nani regularly) and value.

ah gotcha, may pay off you never know but could bite you if RVP continues his current form, esp if he does play the 2.

DJ always seems good at picking up an injury or ailment too - right enough so does RVP i suppose.

Wenger wiill see the Manchester derby as a chance to make some ground on the leaders, so imo RVP will play tomorrow. The only real risk (due to Barca mid week) is that he may be subbed early if the game is safe. Im still starting him though!

    Two really mind-boggling alternatives here:

    A. Van der Vaart OUT, Brunt IN.
    B. Hangeland IN, R, Johnson IN.

I could also do both, as I have two free transfers, anyway - these alternatives would leave me with the following team:

    Foster
Djourou, Simpson, Kelly/R Johnson (if B)
Nani, Adam, Fabregas (C) (+ Brunt, if A)
    van Persie, Berbatov, Tevez

tbeyond the usual attention seeking stupidity of some posts on here, at this double gameweek juncture (when all the wackjobs come out to play 🙂 ) theres actually a very valid argument for captaining odemwingie over rvp and fabs.

west brom play west ham, and new manager effect. then they play wolves. rvp and fabs could either/or be rested for one game (not tomorrow i dont think, but the next one maybe). Odemwingie has got over 9 4/5 times this season at home so far, so a score of 40 isnt unrealistic

Agree...but, RVP/Fabs have potential to outscore any player from bottom of the table teams in 30min vs 180...we all know that...and of course - there is a gambling part...sometimes - you have to gamble to gain something (as you would probably know)...:))

At the moment I'm leaning towards Nani.

        I'd play Nani as well.

I have to decide whom to bench between Nani, Tevez, VdV and A.Young. Could get Barton for VdV as well. I guess I'll keep the transfer and bench VdV.

        i'd play tevez & vdv

        tevez for reasons as above
vdv because @blp is easier game than MCY
if vdv doesnt make the blp game then you have nani to fall back on

    WC team:

    Foster Begovic
    Kolorov Coleman Vidic ??? ???
    Nani Ethers Walcott Adam Barton
    Drogba Odem RVP

    1) Who to bench this week?
    2) Can't decide who to have as the last two defenders. At the minute i'm thinking Huth and Walker but i'm not sure.
    3) How does my team look in generall? Some of the players are just for this week and i will have to take them out for the long run

      Huth is a good shout.

I'm getting Harper to rotate with Foster so that I don't double up on Stoke def in GW28. I took Kelly out just now for Walker but I think I'm going to bring Kelly in again and play him this week.

If he doesn't play then Coleman (yes I got Baines earlier on but changing him to Coleman again) can come on instead.

Hodgson in charge, Baggies now in 2 six pointers, I can see Hodgson working the new manager broom to success.

    Evening lads

My WC team so far is:

    Foster
    Huth, Simpson, Kelly
    Fabs, Walcott, VDV, Adam
    RVP (c), Odem, Tevez

    Begovic, Coleman, Kolorav, Nani

    A few questions:

    1. Should Simpson be replaced with Carr or Kyle Walker?
    2. Should VDVD be replaced with Bentley, A.Young, Barton or Kevin Nolan?

(I dont want to loose VDV as I would 0.5m on him)

    Thanks ladssssss

Hardest week all season for me. Current plan (I think):
BRUNT in for Nzogbia this week. Bench VdV, play Nani & Tev
2free for GW28: CAHILL in for VdV & WALKER in for Djorou.
