This double Gameweek conundrum has had us in its grip. Its wicked little game, complicated by an evil blank for three teams in Gameweek 28 has “twisted our melons” and left us firing questions into the ether in vain hope that clarity would show itself. Everything is still blurry.

We’ve done our best over the past few days to bring you a breakdown of the options available, laced with our opinion on the best routes to take. Our “Scouting the Doubles” articles will close tonight with West Brom completing the set of eight. Those, together with Andy’s Captain Poll article and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differentials” (coming tomorrow), not to mention this week’s ScoutCast, complete possibly the most thorough analysis of teams and players we’ve cobbled together prior to a Gameweek deadline.

You now add the Scout Picks to the mix, although, in the light of this week’s coverage, I’m not about to cover the same ground with more player-by-player analysis, re-affirming the facts, stats and speculation. I won’t leave you hanging high and dry either though.

Selecting a Scout Pick lineup in a double Gameweek scenario is never easy. The obvious candidates stand out like Nikola Zigic at a Jimmy Krankie convention – you can’t ignore them and they’re always likely to use their size once the cling flim comes off the buffet.

Only one non-double Gameweek player finds his way into the lineup . Liverpool’s quest for their fifth clean sheet has them host the woefully inconsistent Wigan at Anfield and that’s a good enough prospect for me to snatch one of their defence. Even this was far from cut and dry. With Martin Kelly a slight injury doubt, I was forced to opt for Glen Johnson – a more expensive, but equally expansive option who can offer defensive and attacking returns.

Elsewhere, the familiar lack of clean sheet potential made it difficult to look beyond even the flimsiest double Gameweek prospects.

Michael Dawson and Gonzalo Jara get the nod because the prospect of 4 appearance points outweigh the option of hoping for a clean sheet from the United defence without Rio Ferdinand against rivals City, or perhaps backing Chris Samba at home to Newcastle.

Jara looks every inch like fools gold, but today’s appointment of Roy Hodgson pushed me to take a gamble on the Baggies rearguard for at least their second home clash with rivals Wolves. You never know, Jara may even return that assist that his OPTA stats appear to threaten.

In midfield the selection was made more difficult by the blank in Gameweek 28 – do I consider the problems this causes or simply select those who offer the best returns?

The strategy is always to select the top scorers for the Gameweek, so Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon, Birmingham’s Craig Gardner and of course, Cesc Fabregas all earn their place. Charlie Adam, edges out West Brom’s Chris Brunt to the bench despite the yellow card sword of Damocles hanging over him.

Kevin Nolan is nowhere to be seen – I’ve left him at home staring at his Andy Carroll scrapbook. Ashley Young? Yeah, tempted, but I’ll leave him rewinding his bit against Denmark on Sky plus. Villa and Young should return at Blackpool though.

Talking of which, Darren Bent almost made it in up front. In the end the obvious silken skills of Robin Van Persie and the pacey menace of Peter Odemwingie, has them on the bus and in the team.

The aforementioned Nikola Zigic gets the bench spot – provided he takes off those stupid school shorts and cap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anybody got any ideas of the ramifications for Begovic with the complaint lodged against him? Can it lead to a ban?

In the latest tweets, he didnt play in a friendly due to competition for spaces. If he could get a ban no point risking him in my wildcard team.

I bought VDV for 8.2m and i had to get rid of him for this week for Walcott. You do know that in GW 28 RVP, Fabs, Walcott, Johnsohn R and Foster all aren't playing so you will only have 10 players

Already free transfer for Odem up front.
Thinking of keeping Berb for GW28.
Want to create some cash to get Tevez GW28.

3 arsenal players + 1 outfield brum player = 4 players, not six. so if u do your proposed transfers in gw28, you have no problems.

yes, your two transfers in gw28 will get rid of 2 out of 5 non-participants, bench the other 3, foster doesnt count since he doesnt take up an outfield bench slot, i.e. just play begovic

    Hangeland

    Nani
    Adam
    Walcott
    VDV
    Brunt

    Berbatov
    Van Persie
    Tevez

My choices are(have 2 free transfers):

    (2) VDV Out, Barton In
    (3) VDV Out, Etherington In
    (4) Berbatov Out, Odemwinge In
    (5) VDV & Berbatov Out, Odemwinge & Barton In

Ideally i'd like to leave 2 transfers for the next week.
I'm edging towards number 4, although I think getting rid of VDV now is not a bad idea, with his injury proneness & lack of games over the next while. But leaving him in could be a good differential when spurs hit their easy run of games

This is my team for this week, I'm gutted. Already taken a 4 point hit and it looks shit!

    Foster
    Djourou R Johnson Kelly
    Bentley Nani Walcott Adam
    DJ RVP Tevez
    Subs: Reina, VDV, Evra, Coleman

Any suggestions worthy of another 4 point hit?

I'd sooner have VDV playing Blackpool than either of your Manc derby players.

if he was guaranteed to play against blackpool, true for this week. since he's not i'd pick nani before him. but maybe thats why your over 100,000 places ahead of me 🙂
but then he has no game the following week either.

No point in benching VDV though, either he plays Blackpool or he doesn't.
And if by some veryyy small chance Blackpool are winning and he comes on as substitute.. i'd expect a goal/assist since Blackpool are usually knackered by the 70th minute 😀

lot of rubbish on here about UTD playing 4-5-1 and Berbatov benched, UTD fan here and IMO absoutely no chance he doesnt start. In saying that I have him and WCing so understand people want to play the percentages. I say this, if you have him and are not wcing, keep him, play him,my hunch is he will be the difference with at least one goal return.

This gameweek is a nightmare I reckon! A double, with blank fixtures next week.

So far I have settled on

Foster (Hart) - Need to keep Hart IMO for upcoming matches
R Johnson Djourou Huth (Kelly A.Hughes)
Nani Adam Walcott Meireles A Young
    Odenwingie RVP (c) (Tevez)

My Issues - leaving Tevez on the bench...seems so wrong. Kelly could be a higher point scorer than Huth but my mind is swayed by the doubles. I have 2.6 in the bank, and was tempted to try and get Fabregas in but would require much shuffling.
Might dump A.Hughes for Kolorov for forthcoming fixtures.

Anyone think this is good or bad or whatever?

wouldnt transfer szecesny for foster this week. kind of pointless. youd lose ~1million, and arsenal have easier ties

also wouldnt be pushed on bringing lennon, as spurs are short of players and have 2 away games plus a CL match

as for a fear of losing 0.5 at this stage, it doesnt make a huge difference now, as there are not so many GWs left and you most likely have used your 2 wildcards
