The Saturday Surgery has closed. Pre-season is over. The sea of “Rate-my-teams” will begin to subside. The deadline for team selection has slammed shut and then some.

At least for now, what’s done is done. It’s time for the football to begin and for some new Fantasy Football champions to be crowned as we open the Dugout Discussion…

Fulham and Aston Villa have new managers looking to start their season off in style, QPR and Norwich both return to the Premier League with ties at home to Bolton and away at Wigan respectively.

Liverpool and Arsenal are seen as big rivals for fourth place as they open against sides from the North-East. Blackburn also host Wolves.

As you can see, plenty of action going on as the season kicks off. Will your gambles pay off? Have you made the right captaincy choice? Will all that effort require a sudden wildcard? Were you even able to get through the sky-high walls around the Fantasy Premier League castle this last 24 hours? The Dugout Discussion will be open through it all as we welcome “soccer” back with a warm embrace. It’s been a long three months.

Here’s hoping Gameweek one starts with a bang deserving of the last day’s frustration. I’m sure we’ll all have a new bandwagon to jump on by the time evening is upon us – Mauro Forimica anyone?

    I knw everyboody is having a bad time ...most of ours players f*kd up

    QPR the best defence in the Championship. Let in half the goals of Norwich. Really? Knowledge means sweet FA on this game. I said it last season and will say it again. This game is largely down to luck.

          I think in France, and probably other places they use full-stops instead of commas (for thousands), and use commas in place of decimal points.

    Gentlemen,

    After seeing the same thing every year im not sure whether to laugh or cry. The team you picked was hopefully to take advantage of the fixtures for the first 3-6 weeks (depending on when you thought you may use your WC), so give your team a chance to get some points.

    We've only played half of 1 GW so far, but already I can see people itching to change their entire teams. A few players most people have:

    Moses - didnt disappoint, if he plays like that every week he will be the best value midfielder this season
    Taraabt - think he's rubbish so are QPR, a player to consider getting rid of given 2 away fixtures coming up.
    Sess - OOP and had some chances today. Keeper.
    QPR defenders - they cost 4mln, you probably have other priorities than replacing bench players
    Bolton kneejerk - look at their fixtures and think again. they play the big 5 in the next 6...

    All in all not much to worry about, the top 4 havent played yet and thats where the bulk of points will be coming from...

      Agree on Moses and Sess, they're both showing potential and I'll certainly be keeping them.

          i was agonising over replacing Taraabt with O Hara this morning. Should have listened to the voice in my head. Oh well, team is looking good. Cant waste a transfer on him - bringing in malouda and drogba this week

          I put him in, but I'm not quite ready to move him out. Yes, they had a bad day today, but they will score goals even if they get relegated, and if they do, chances are they will come through Tarbaat.

          QPR's next few fixtures are as reasonable as you could ask. So I know what I'm going to do with him by GW3-4

            yeah i cant get rid yet either, his price shouldnt plummet - his ownership is so large and the way the price fall system works he will lose 0.1 every time 10% or so get rid. so it will take a lot of people to transfer out for him to drop.

      Thanks. I had no access to QPR match, so it's good to have read the summary of Taarabt and his defending mate. Anyway, I still want to give him a try for another week. Just hope people will not jump ship too fast.

      Taraabt: I will definitely dump him now, everyone else on my team are keepers for sure (none of that Simpson & Bramble s**te). And when QPR finally buy some quality I'll think about revisiting him in about 10-12 GW's, probably at 5.5.

    17 Points from 6 played today. Not great so hoping for some BPs for Riise, Andy johnson and Moses. Wished I played Given instead of Al Habsi. 5 Big guns to come (Drogs, Rooney, Silva, Vidic and Kompany) and I hope they bail me out.

    BRING BACK THE OLD FPL SITE! This is a disaster and EVERYONE hates it! Why try and fix what wasn't broken. All that was required was vice captain rule brought in. Whoever came up with the "smart idea" of changing things needs a good kick in the a**e.

      Not sure why they didn't do all the testing and bug fixes and functionality rollouts in parallel run last season with the old site. Why wait so long to roll out and when full of bugs.
