The Saturday Surgery has closed. Pre-season is over. The sea of “Rate-my-teams” will begin to subside. The deadline for team selection has slammed shut and then some.

At least for now, what’s done is done. It’s time for the football to begin and for some new Fantasy Football champions to be crowned as we open the Dugout Discussion…

Fulham and Aston Villa have new managers looking to start their season off in style, QPR and Norwich both return to the Premier League with ties at home to Bolton and away at Wigan respectively.

Liverpool and Arsenal are seen as big rivals for fourth place as they open against sides from the North-East. Blackburn also host Wolves.

As you can see, plenty of action going on as the season kicks off. Will your gambles pay off? Have you made the right captaincy choice? Will all that effort require a sudden wildcard? Were you even able to get through the sky-high walls around the Fantasy Premier League castle this last 24 hours? The Dugout Discussion will be open through it all as we welcome “soccer” back with a warm embrace. It’s been a long three months.

Here’s hoping Gameweek one starts with a bang deserving of the last day’s frustration. I’m sure we’ll all have a new bandwagon to jump on by the time evening is upon us – Mauro Forimica anyone?

    I can't believe it.

    I was going to log in to FPL this morning to tranfer in Klasnic in place of Carroll. I was also going to captain him.

    Stupid FPL. I DEMAND A FREE WILDCARD!!

        Yeah me too. I was going to bring in ALL of the point scorers (Goal/Assist) for the games so far today including ALL of the Fulaham and Villa defense and goalies AND I was going to captain whoever has the highest points so far. Damn site, it's all their fault. I accept no blame for my crappy performance so far this week whatsoever.

    Is there any benefits to the new FPL website at all? Prettier player shirts? Can't log on at vital times, points don't update, leagues disappear, slow updates, etc, etc..

    At the start of the season, the playing field is pretty level. Everyone knows roughly who the value picks are, and get spoonfed their first 15. Then, they kneejerk. Take points hits, make stupid transfers and allow the more patient and experienced players to forge ahead.

          I think it is. The keeper got a touch, but Holt crossed it. Under the new rules, it still counts as Holt's assist.

    Well one positive about QPR is that Gabbidon and Orr should be locked on to start with a red card to Hill and an injury to Dyer. Anyone agree, so I hope the masses don't drop them.

    Just after watching the last 60 minutes of the Fulham - Villa game.

    Riise, Given and Warnock is my prediction for the bonus, although no one really stood up. Given didn't have much to do but made good saves when tested, Riise got forward at every opportunity, he was a winger for most of the game. Warnock provided the assist for one of Villa's best chances of the game and Bent would've scored had Schwarzer not got there a second before him, making a crucial touch, he also put 2 or 3 good balls into the box.

    Looked to me as if Mcleish was playing a 4-2-3-1, Agbonlahor and N'Zogbia as inverted wingers with Heskey behind Bent. Heskey was there to break up play and just try win flick ons, which he rarely did. I would be a lot more confident having Bent with Ireland behind him, as Heskey's passing was awful.

    Fulham need a proper goalscorer imo, as Zamora didnt come close while AJ was extremely greedy. Finally, Hughes played rb and got forward well, with Senderos as the cb.

          Nah, he looked comfortable there. I don't expect him to be rotated.

          Also forgot to mention, Fulham played some very nice football, everything was on the ground, even Hangeland was composed and found a pass every time.
