Having ran the rule over the Goalkeepers, the second part of our series of Member articles focussing on projected value takes a look at the defenders. With the aid of our Projections we’ve analysed the average points expected per player over the course of the upcoming campaign and, applying this to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player price list, have listed the top ten in terms of expected value per Fantasy pound for the season ahead…

I have a selection headache, it would be greatly appreciated if I could get some help.

    My team as it is looks like this;

    Federici / Jaaskelainen
Terry (just for the double gameweek, then trading out for Vidic) Hangeland, Lescott, Rangel, Clyne
Sinclair, Noble, Dempsey, Hazard - then theres a 7.5 million gap. I did have VDV but went for Dempsey instead. I just can't see any value in any 7.5 midfielders. Tough desicion.
Ba, Petric and Aguero make up the front 3.

    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

pre season doesnt really count for much. city have lost a few times and players are rested. I think that there is value is punting on Nzog or Bent as Villa will be ok but not defensively

Is anyone going for both stoke keepers? They should get a combined 140 points if last season is anything to go by... Probaly more given no europa distractions... For 4.5 each im liking that combo

I did the whole GK rotation strategy last year, and lost out on quite a few vorm clean sheets in difficult away fixtures. So might switch back to sticking with one team between the sticks for the season this year, not sure whether its for the best or not

The most notable Muslim footballers in the Premier League include Newcastle's Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Leon Best and Hatem Ben Arfa, Manchester City's Edin Dzeko, brothers Kolo and Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri, Wigan's Ali Al-Habsi and Chelsea's Salomon Kalou to throw in names for starters. There are rumours abound that Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie are recent converts, with the latter married to a Muslim wife. In terms of popularity, the most perhaps well known Muslim of the names mentioned is Demba Ba, whose goal celebration is the Sujood, the prostration performed in prayer to Allah, which Muslims are obligated to perform five times a day.

The key stats are most important as they tend to translate into fantasy points. Percentage I think is the average of all the stats in contrast to the opponent.

what do people think about having players like Guithre?
has a dgw, but afterwards you will not be playing him anyway, since he is a certain 2 pointers.

also, the other 4 mid would have to be so good that you are able to play them no matter the fixture, as long as you own the 4.5

so is it really worth having a 4.5 in your squad, especially when the TV of everyone is so low that it is impossible to get 4 big hitters in the mid to ply every week.

Difference is here when the monk, king, neville etc were already captain (playing regular) and then lost their place on form or too new signings emerging.

AVB is making Dawson captain now.

Surely that means he wants him on the field most of the time.

He's been given it now, not had it historically.... There's a difference.

It makes a lot of sense to have a defender as captain under AVB. The way he will want that back line to function will be key to their success this season.

No idea whether it was a defender to be honest. It doesn't matter though because the difference in playing style between England and Portugal is fairly different. I suspect they are used to playing a high line over there.

I personally are not a fan of Noble and Taarabt but they are popular on here. Plus it would appear that you have the depth to rotate them. Could do well.

For me I can't see anything but Lindegaard getting the nod from the start.

If it was a Cech/Hilario situation then fair enough, but these two are pretty close in terms of quality. De Gea just pips it in the shot stopping but, for me, it's the confidence of Lindegaard dealing with crosses that trumps it. There are those types of balls in that only the keeping coming out can deal with and Lindy just looks so much more confident in that catergory.

Might depend on the form and confidence of De Gea. If there is any slip up I would expect Lindy to capitalise. In terms of who starts the season I think the main thing going for Lindy is that he has played all of their pre season games thus far. Of course De Gea now gets an opportunity in their remaining games. Its still a wait and see situation for me. Perhaps we will have a better idea once all the pre season games have been completed.
