Having ran the rule over the Goalkeepers, the second part of our series of Member articles focussing on projected value takes a look at the defenders. With the aid of our Projections we’ve analysed the average points expected per player over the course of the upcoming campaign and, applying this to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player price list, have listed the top ten in terms of expected value per Fantasy pound for the season ahead…
Rooney must be flying in training and pre-season games. Fairly anonymous in the Euros and back playing for a United team who's only significant signing has been Kagawa.
Torres had a great Euros with limited gametime, shows signs of getting close to his Liverpool form, top scorer in the league from play at his peak.
Of course Rooney is the better all round player, Torres a great finisher, not always playing for the team, but am I the only only one baffled by the "Saving for a Torres to Rooney in GW2 switch" ? Rooney has very little form coming into the start of the season. Nando could score 3 or 4 in the double gameweek and you probably keep him then but your 2 or 3m kept for Rooney will give you a much better team for GW1 if spent well. Just a thought.Open Controls
Rooney is the only fully nailed on player in Utd's attack and nobody wants to go without Utd coverage. Nobody would get Torres if it wasn't for the DGW. Rooney and Aguero also gives you a great captain option every week.

I like to keep a little £ in reserve if I'm happy with my team, just in case of injury/suspension, so I'm not struggling or forced to take an early hit for funds.
But I agree, not sure about planning to get rid of someone I would expect to be a top player. Why have him in the first place?Open Controls
3 or 4 goals from Torres would be awesome. Torres is the lone striker on a top 4 club with an awesome midfield. I reckon if he does score 3 or 4 in gw1 many people will change their minds.

Torres wasn't really great at the Euros. He scored a few goals but didn't really look like the old Torres at all.

Remember last season when Rooney had a bad game but he scored 2 goals? Doesnt really matter how well he play, what matter is how much he'll score, well, only in my humble opinion

I'd be thinking the best case scenario would be Nando getting 2 in the 1st gameweek. No doubts Rooney is better, just a matter of who'll be in form and it looks like a great attacking Chelsea midfield on paper but they'll be playing on grass.
I'd be thinking that it's too restricted starting with 97 or 98m but I know and used to and still might have 1 or 2 m in the bank for GW1. I am not one to advocate Hits(rarely take them myself)....however i disagree with the strategy of NOT taking hits early in the season.
1. DGW in 1. lowers the risk of a planned hit in gw2 or 3
2. Player values seem to rise and fall significantly in the early weeks (as there are so many active managers in FPL in the early weeks)
3. it will help you set up your team with a squad which is nailed on and in form.
IMO......if you are going to take a hit, the best time to do it is early in the season.

I'm filling my team with Chelsea, Reading, City, etc players who have a strong GW1. Wildcarding in 2, I plan to build player value for the week then bring in 2-3 of both United/Tottenham for their 'easy' runs (weeks 2-5), and some form players from week 1 as well.

It seems you will be playing Lescott and A Cole each week and the front 3. Even if Ramires plays (he's in my team so I hope he does) you will need to pick 4 of the others, but of course you can't pick all 5 midfield so every week you'll need to pick at least 2 defenders from Demel, Cuellar and Gunter. Which may prove tricky. If your heart is set on the front three, spread the defence cash or evenly or lose Bale and spread that cash along the back line, but I suggest tossing one of the top 3
