Roberto Martinez made his third foray into the summer transfer market earlier this week by acquiring the services of Ryo Miyaichi from Arsenal in a season-long loan deal. The 19-year old follows Fraser Fyvie and Ivan Ramis to the club and has since been joined by Arouna Kone from Levante as the Latics boss continues to bolster his first-team options:

Having finally struck upon a winning formula after moving to a 3-4-2-1 in the latter part of the previous campaign, Martinez is now in the process of fine-tuning his system, bringing in players who will flourish within the new formation. Miyaichi’s trickery on the ball and intelligent passing play looks an ideal fit for Wigan and the manager clearly anticipates the player to make a big impact in the season ahead:

The way we play, I think he’s going to fit in really, really well. As we’ve done previously with players that have come on loan, they’ve really found an important role, they’ve really found themselves feeling at home and we’ve seen the best of their football ability – so that’s the case with Ryo. We’re looking forward to seeing him here.

The Statistics
Miyaichi signed his first professional contract at the Emirates in January last year after impressing in a trial in the summer of 2010. Loaned out to Dutch club Feyenoord in the latter half of the 2010/11 campaign, he made an immediate impact – named man of the match on his debut, he went on to score three times and provide five assists over 12 starts.

Granted a work permit for the start of last season, Miyaichi was no more than a peripheral figure for the Gunners, though, and was reduced to reserve outings and League Cup matches before sustaining an ankle injury in November. Upon recovering, he was farmed out on loan to Bolton, where he provided a couple of assist in 12 games but his displays were not enough to save the Trotters from the drop.

Miyaichi has represented his country at every level from Under 15 to Under 21, scoring six goals in 19 matches, and also made his debut for the senior side earlier this year.

The Prospects

The future of Victor Moses is likely to have a considerable say in Miyaichi’s projected game time over the season ahead. The former Crystal Palace man has already been the subject of a number of failed bids from Chelsea but if he does finally clinch a move to the Bridge, Miyaichi is surely set to be handed a regular starting role in one of the two positions behind a lone striker. There is also the possibility, though, that if Moses stays, Miyaichi could impact heavily on the game time of Shaun Maloney, bearing in mind that the latter has had his fair share of injuries over the last couple of years. Although Maloney’s appeal is boosted by his spot-kick duties, Miyaichi could be handed a fair share of corners by Martinez; similar to the situation that transpired upon his loan move to Bolton under Owen Coyle.

While Moses comes in at 7.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), both Maloney and Miyaichi offer potential in the cut-price bracket – both will set you back 5.0 in comparison. In the Sky Sports game, however, Miyaichi comes in at 4.6 compared to Moses’ 6.9 – somewhat surprisingly, Maloney is also 6.9 and is classified as a forward; clearly, the new boy looks the most intriguing option to Fantasy managers here.

Before looking at the schedule, it’s worth remembering that Wigan served us an emphatic reminder last time round that form is a better barometer than fixtures when assessing their options – wins over United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle, in a run that saw them rack up seven victories in their last nine in 2011/12, stand testament to that.

Martinez will hold no fear heading into Sunday’s opener at home to a Chelsea side that have tasted defeat in all four of their previous matches, then, while home clashes with Stoke and Fulham, allied with a trip to Southampton within the first six Gameweeks, all look prosperous. For Fantasy managers, let’s hope Roman Abramovich opens the chequebook once again and quickly snaps up Moses, affording us a cheap route into Martinez’s midfield with plenty potential for attacking points.

In this player exchange game- is it basically unlimited trades whenever trading opens?

and is there intra-GW trading? i.e. can you trade out players that play the first day and bring in players who play the Sun? or is it all counted on the players you have when the gameweek closes?

No I don't think you can just bring in a player who plays on the next day. The rules say you can bring in players from a team that has just played but not a team that plays the next day in the same gameweek.

Assuming RVP goes to Manchester United, both he and Rooney become fantasy lepers, right? Don't get me wrong, they'll still produce but surely not enough to justify a combined £45m price tag? For that outlay you'd be expecting the best part of a 500 point return and that would be a highly doubtful outcome if two become one would it not?

Personally, I reckon Rooney will return to a yield similar to what he offered during the Ronaldo years (around 14-16 goals) with RVP doing slightly better (around 18-20 goals). That's absolutely MILES below their combined total of 57 for last season.

By my reckoning, this would justify price tags at least £1.5m lower than what they've been given and makes them incredibly poor VFM. Should it all come to fruition, they'll definitely be personas non grata in my team until such times as one of them either starts to dominate or gets laid up.

Vidic, Evra and De Gea, triple up and defence is sorted for most weeks.

Midfield and attack is too risky, it's not just Rooney and van persie but Hernandez and Wellbeck will get minutes.

So pointless getting them when the striker area is healthy this year.

Agreed. And my team looks great without rooney! Really hope this happens now.

Also in real football terms, it allows man utd to compete with man city (more exciting for everyone), and weakens arsenal, giving us more of a chance to challenge for 4th spot. So jobs a good'un!

See what you mean but I dont even think Rooney will score that many and I think Van P would score even more. When United play poor teams at Old Trafford they can sometimes score as many as they want and I have to say there are quite a lot of teams that dont look as great this year. Stoke, Wigan, Fulham, Norwich, Swansea and the three noobs could be looking at getting a thrashing with Valencia, Kagawa, Rooney, Nani, Young, Hernandez and Van P going at those defences.

PS: I have just put Van P in my team

For GW1 I agree, the rest of the season? Eh.

No matter what draft of my team I was on I had always planned to ship out my Chelsea players before GW3 and re-evaluate later on. Big questions at Chelsea this year I think (and even if they're performing, the question becomes about selection).

Just seen Tottenham's opening fixtures, surely some kind of coverage in mandatory. I have £9.5 to splash as replacement for Hazard (Already have Torres up front). Siggy, VDV or Bale?

The defence is a mess, the mf a rotation minefield and there are so many fwds who I think will do better relative to price.. I just think there are better options in every position.

Why do you say the defence is a mess? They were very solid last season, and that was without Vidic. With him fit again I can't see them suddenly start to concede more. I've got DDG in my starting team, and depending on the outcome of the RVP saga, Ill either get Vidic/Valencia or Valencia/Rooney in the first few GW's.

Nani apparently set up the 2 goals in uniteds last friendly and was MOTM

Really tempted to risk him in and sell Cazoria at least Nani is an attacking threat most games

Only issue os rotation but hes better than young so i hope fergie realises this.

I think Nani is a safer bet than Carzola... Arsenal's fixtures are pretty poor and he might need some time to adapt. I don't see Nani being rotated -that- much... Valencia seems more nailed on though, and assuming he doesn't start at right back (which he shouldn't), would be the 1 I would pick.

Far too many players at Wigan now.

Midfielders and Forwards - McCarthy, McArthur, Fyvie, Maloney, Miyachi, Gomez, Beausejour, Boselli, Di Santo and Kone.

And Moses is still a Wigan player.

      afaik

It's not that many, most teams have loads more than that!

Fyvie, Boselli are backup only. Beasejour plays LWB.

      McCarthy McArthur (Gomez)
Maloney Di Santo (Kone) Moses (Miyachi)

Beasejour is nailed on but plays as a wingback, reverse OOP so don't fancy that.
