With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persie’s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchman’s move to Old Trafford is – from a Fantasy perspective – arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Ferguson’s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney – with 269 and 230 points respectively – will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the other’s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers – if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchman’s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persie’s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunners’ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving – a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs – Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though it’s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didn’t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

We’ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

After making a smash hit cartoon announcing his starting XI, news from WHL is that Andres Fuzzash-Warblash has booted Frank Lampard off the squad. His selection is now shrouded in mystery.

i vote siggy, purely on VDV fitness record, when hes in form i will spend 4 points to get vdv in, but as a long term prospect, its just a matter of time before a hammy flare up. To expect him to make it through Spurs early kind run of fixtures without injury is asking alot.

He might be out for GW6. And I could probably afford a free transfer to get him out if he got a proper injury, as not going for a chelsea mid.

Forgetting the injuries, who do you reckon? Who will play most advanced? VDV on pens?

go VDV if you want to roll the dice a little, hes worth every pound when hes on the pitch, additional armband option which i dont think siggy his. higher ceiling with vdv but risk as well.

The solution to the man utd striker conundrum?

    Tevez, Rooney AND RVP!!

Same price as the Aguero, Rooney and Torres combo i've seen on here a lot (and had up until this morning!)

One of Rooney/RVP will be decent value and the other will be a waste of cash (I just don't know which) whereas both Tevez and Aguero could have good starts.

At the beginning I don't see RVP being involved so the first 2 GWs look ok to just have Rooney. After that it's anyone's guess!

Saylor is at as much risk from Williamson, as Santon is from Raylor. ie not very much at all. However, we might still buy a centre back (Douglas) before the window closes, who would compete directly with saylor.

    Alright lads, thoughts on this?

Looks fairly balanced, plus i have Bent up top instead of Graham.

    DDG- Federici
    Terry - Zab - Cuellar - Tierny - Demel
    Bale - Lampard - Pienaar - Michu - Noble
    Torres - Bent - Tevez

    Thoughts??

personally I don't see all the hype in Bent. Yes, he may be a goal machine with an attacking manager but seriously he has no one around him good enough to allow him to score every other week. Just my opinion, but otherwise looks good.

He doens't need many chances to score and given Villa's fixtures he could easily get them. Personally I'm waiting a couple of weeks before thinking about him and he's on my shortlist if/when I need to get rid of Torres/Tevez.

Totally agree, you can spin anything. Try-

Torres- top scorer at Euros and only striker (quality) in squad
Chelsea double game week with poor opposition
Tevez- highly likely to be rotated soon, difficult to move from Tevez to Aguro but easy other way round, Aguero on pens, judging Tevez one one game vs 10 men

    Soooo. RVP --> United.

How does this effect our plans?

My first instinct was to do Rooney > Torres and find an alternative to Lampard (Yaya? Ramires? 6.5m mid allowing me to do Tevez>Aguero?) but I was pretty happy with my team until the news broke.

I'm considering leaving it now as I was happy with my team in general. I think Rooney's first couple of gameweeks won't really be affected as RVP hasn't had any chance to build up his match fitness. He may be introduced as a sub in GW2/3 and be a threat to someone's place from GW4 onwards. Even then I see Rooney being pretty secure in the team and I could even see RVP improving his returns (more goal for United all-round!).

    Anyone see it differently?

if kun was a lone striker at city then everybody would be great lets get him but he will struggle at some stage. pair him with tevez and they feed off each other and create a lot more chances! same at united. pair rooney and van persie together and you would think that rooney will get more chances. i dont undestand why people are getting off rooney! he will start 95% of games, he should have pens and now he has a world class partner who defenders will stick to like vegemite on toast lol.

Pretty good myself thanks. Raving to go for the new season. Entered a money league in which 75% of competitors are new to the game and the other 25% finished above 100k rank.

Hoping for good things this season..

how's your team panning out? Are you going for 3 big hitters in mid with tevez/torres/6.0 up top like 75% of people on here(not saying that's a bad thing)?

i'm not worried about RvP > MUN. i'll just see how he does and adapt accordingly.

what could be interesting is that fact that a LOT of casuals will have blindly picked him. so if he does do well in the first few weeks, it could hurt us.

sorry, i made a boo boo on the last RMT - apologies its very late

I would really appreciate hearing your views

    Federici/Green
    Lescott/A.Cole/hangeland (Demel, Clyne)
    Bale/Mata/Lamps/Dyer/Guthrie
    Aguero/Tevez/Graham

I have .5m in the bank

goalies suck, who cares. No one wins this off the back of the goalies and CLs are getting few and far between

    Defence, strong, balance

2 x Chelsea mids – Torres is an unreliable arse. seriously, would anyone really be surprises if he gets 4 points for the dgw?
The points will come from midfield as usual. Hence Mata and Lamps

forwards….graham..ok standard. but Aguero and Teves, they will tear Southampton apart. and i refuse to be the guy to make the wrong pick between the two.

now this is where the magic happens… i see lamps as a wild card, in combination with either Cole, Teves and Aguero. lamp plus one of them can be pretty much any 2 players i wont them to be. rooney, Rvp… who ever.

so i milk the dgw, milk the city game, no Tevez Aguero mistake. i can sit back swap lamps +1, for the form man u player or what ever with no gw 3 head aches – boom!!

    Hello Everyone..

Been a long 2 fantasy free months.. Feels great to have the premier league and the deadzone back again !!

So what do you guys think of my team..

    Cerny (Friedel)

Ivanovic Zabaleta Gorkks/Gunter (Fulhams Kelly Demel)

Mata Yaya Kagawa Dyer ( El Ahmadi)

    Torres Aguero Petric

My only doubts are Cerny,Kelly and El Ahmadi will all of these 3 start ??

    Thoughts ??

Decent looking team, although I'd step away from Kagawa with the arrival of RVP at MUN. Also, I'd go Cerny (won't start), Kelly & El Ahmadi -> Federici, Hughes & Guthrie. I'd also go Tevez instead of Aguero.

        Hey Jinswick..

Are you sure Hughes will start ?? Kelly completely replaced him end of last season..
Guthrie again GW3 is a problem for me and I like the safety of Aguero..

Federici was in my initial plans but a 0.5 over budget in the new team..

There'll be plenty of chopping and changing before staurday.. 😀

      Nice team. Very nice.

I'd downgrade Hangeland to a 4.0 and get Michu over Dyer, but it's solid.

I also am willing to punt on Cazorla, so consider him over VdV

        Cheers.

Hange/Dyer vs Clyne/Michu is an interesting one. It also makes for an easier upgrade to one of the many decent 6.5m mids out there if Michu fails to deliver.

Cazorla is a superb player, I just wonder whether he can be as explosive as the likes of VDV. VDV will most likely play in the hole, be on pens and he also has greater fixtures than Cazorla.

Thats a solid team. Of course we always have to find one point to ? so thats the double spurs mid but to be honest if we all didnt try something different then all teams would be exactly the same.

My risk would be go for double Swans with Michu over VDV and then have 2.5 for Torres to Rooney but if you leave it its still a good team

Not worried about no Aguero/Rooney/RVP? It would take two transfers for me to get them if they start going mental, but I feel those 3 offer so much more value given their price differences.
Aguero is the only *certainty* out of those 3, given that RVP is no guarantee to start for now and Rooney will play deep when RVP does play. And I'll have Nasri or Yaya and Tevez. Hmm.

Ryan. Saylor is at as much risk from Williamson, as Santon is from Raylor. ie not very much at all. However, we might still buy a centre back (Douglas) before the window closes, who would compete directly with saylor. Both back up options are likely to see more game time in the cups

Yeah. Even if Saylor and Santon play as much as each other I can't see one being a whole lot better than the other either. Saylor is good at corner time and I'm not sure Santon offers that much of an attacking threat.

I am concerned about Douglas though, is that just rumour? or is Newcastle on a serious mission to find a new CB?

Serious mission. But I think that its Douglas or no-one at the moment. Apparently he has to stay in holland until the end of the month before he can claim citizenship, so potentially that is holding up the deal.

As we are going to play with no wingers, and two defensive mids, expect santon to be VERY attacking this year. He is right footed too, playing on the left, so he should get a few goals cutting in

There is very little to choose between the two. I think that saylor is a great option as well. Its mainly the uncertainty about Douglas that would put me off (a bit)

And Raylor only offers more for his versatility. Williamson is a better centre back than raylor is left back.

Who tends to get further up the pitch, Hazard or Mata?
