Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

      McClean is in a lot of teams on here which i find a bit surprising given that they dont really have a top stiker, sessegnon injured, dour pre-season and tough opening fixtures. I wouldnt have him, apart from that i like it.

      I like it. Imo I think your spurs coverage should be Mata > Bale and downgrade Lamps so as to upgrade Foster or someone else in defence.

        Supposedly he well in pre season, and i doubt Dempsey will be playing so I'd say he will start. Norwich at home is a good fixture as well.

      Reina Krul is very expensive
      Back line is fine if on the expensive side
      Forwards are ok if you fancy Suarez but you could make Pienaar into VDV if you downgrade Agueo to Teves or Kankles into someone decent

        I have a feeling suarez will score lots this season, saw him for Uruguay and in pre season and he was very good. Might swap augero for tevez and change one keeper.

    3m for Rooney / RVP

    My plan is to rotate (Hanglend / Rangel) - (Stevens / McCartney) - (Noble - Bannon) who all rotate very well together. 

    Meaning I have 3 playing at home from my defense every GW with the away player coming from Utd & City.

    Aguero - Rooney/RVP rotate as cpt choice each GW 

    I know the old saying "all good plans get laid to waste" but you have to have some kind of strategy, right ?

    Who thinks chelsea will maybe keep at least 1, if not two clean sheets in this DGW? Not heard of many thinking about captaining any defenders, obviously, but I am seriously contemplating captaining A.Cole, at least 24 points if they keep clean sheets!
    It's either a.cole, ramires, or Torres, thoughts?

    Oh and if anybody has any leagues i could join that would be excellent, tired of only being in one league with mates.

        Yeah true, its just assuring to know that even if maybe torres scored first, taht clean sheet would fetch just the same points, without BPS obviously, but still, comforting.

          Right, really you have just go to decide which is more likely: Torres scoring, or them keeping a clean sheet in at least one of the two games. Personally, I might captain a defender. Could be a nice differential if Torres doesn't do anything.

      I currently have cole and lescot. Eorried lescot wont start.

      Considering double che defence for dgw and new. Keeping cole then ivan to lescot for qpr

      Thinking of ditching torrs plan too. Leaves me with tevez and aguero for sot game. Have ramires as 3rd che that way.

      Question is are cleanies more likely than toress scoring 3 goals . . . .

      Haha Yea I was thinking this the other night and was putting some serious doubt in my mind of who to go for. The thing is one goal against them ruins it all, and it is possible when they lucky and get a pen. Whereas Torres has a chance to score a few... and some assists less of a risk of failing at captaincy.

Yeah its something ive been pondering, im liking it at the minute, and RDM will surely of had a kind of calm down talk wit hthe tackles after ivan's god awful challenge, i like torres, think everyone knows this by now, so ive put him in my team, but i think im willing to take this risk until the chelsea curse does raise off torres, plus it'd only be for GW 1 anyway, then RVP the beast is taking his place, oh yeah, RVP!           It really could be an absolute sick captain choice, it has got me thinking once again. It is possible I may edge that way eventually, just knowing how Torres has been for me in the past. You love Torres there is no doubt about that.

            Haha! yeah i'd cry if Torres went ape in both games, BUT, i kinda think thats unlikely as it stands.

            It really could be an inspired choice, and i think its very possible they'll keep at least 1 cleanie, but i reckon they'll keep two, as of now im sticking to A. Cole captain, just hope i dont bottle it last minute seeing as its taking a risk already first game! but everything a risk at the beginning of a new season anyway.

            Yeah its trial and error for which united forward to get in GW 2, but because i hold RVP in such high regard im shoving him in, if it doesn't work out can literally afford anyone else.

              Then Torres is taking a Risk anyways at the end of the day! Gotta go on what we know really, it might be a fantastic thing to do. They might just get the same points at the end of the day anyways.

              Thinking about it, it's probably less of a risk going to defence at the beginning of the season.

              It's gonna be a bit ridiculous at the end for United, I'm gonna love to see how they line up and play. It could go either way, but think it will be absolutely ridiculous.

                I thought the same thing actually, big risk keeping cleanie's but i like to see it as less of a risk if the forward doesn't score, kinda 50/50 on both sides really.

                Ha! i agree, dunno how things are gonna work as yet with RVP, but, still ecstatic to have the guy, i think it will even work from the off, or flop at first then slowly gather pace, either way its exciting, god cant wait till this season starts! start it nooooooow! lol.

                  Its gonna be ridiculous, I dont see him playing for long against Everton. Probs 20 mins at the end at the most! I really can't wait, I'm gonna be buzzing all of Saturday until kick off its gonna be unreal! Shame I aint got many playing the first day though.

                    Exactly, only the start of the season anyway, doesn't pay off=its just teh start of the season, does pay off=excellent start, cushion=always the wildcard lol.

                    Yeah it'll be a sub appearance from mr persie i reckon, thats the consensus anyway. Yeah shame i aint got many utd players, only got de Gea lol, might be ok tho until utd perform to see who is creating/scoring.

                    Yeah should be fine and no reason why we wont start well, both teams are balanced with room to improve and extra funds etc, its all good man.
                    £500 is a hell of a lot to win, its massive! lol. Give it ya best shot anyway, but being in the know on here and following stuff wit ha close eye gives you a huge edge, i reckon you should win it comfortably.

                    Just gotta keep on the form players, i favour form over fixtures this season, as anything can happen, pog is on my watchlist for reading, if he starts to bang a few in i may hop on.

                    Hmm thats a good name actually! i was thinking 'van persie's all stars' but maybe too soon for that haha. Might call it FIFA Masters.

                    Hoping so, there is other little leagues along with it like H2H ones as well as who does best over every 9 weeks. But obviously the big one if over the whole season.
                    Yea I need that edge, its gonna be a huge advantage, just need to be as good as I have been every other year. There is always gonna be a few on the watchlist, for me Caz is a watchlist and may do Lampard -> Caz if need be. Plus Im keeping an eye on Podolski. Hope there is gonna be some big ass bargains after GW1.

                    Yeah H2H leagues are great fun, but yeah its the ones that last over the whole season are best really.

                    Sure you will be, like we say it's just keeping on top of it, news, form, some fixtures plays a part, formations, we're in safe hands anyway with this lovely site haha.

    1 question though, with the .5 mil I have left over, would it be better to upgrade Jelavic to Tevez, Yaya to Nasri, or neither??

          Allen isn't really a good prospect. Taarabt should play right behind Cisse and is on all set-pieces, pens and is playing well. And there was a rumour Swansea are after a player that plays in Dyers position.

            Cheers Giggs i am not aTarrabt fan at all but i have heard good things about his pre season so one last chance with him, i agree Dyer is a risk but i do think Allen may do well with assists.

      I actually prefer A.

      I think Taarabt is hugely over rated. He did nowt last year....have people forgotten. Noble is a good player but Allen will play even more freely this season at liverpool.

    I am going with this lot as my midfield:

    Allen Cazorla Toure Walters Valencia

    My only concern is Valencia, is he a guaranteed start, or is Kagawa a safer bet??? Or bale even??

      toure = good gw1 if silva doesnt play then will be deeper

      Velencia = wouldnt risk it till defence is sorted & see what happens with the RonnieVP scenario
